A guy that works with Dame, fwiw

interesting. Kind of suggests that Dame might not be in sync with Neil? but the context of "go for it" could go a lot of different directions. Personally, I sure don't think Olshey is a 'go for it' GM, and he sure has excuses down to a science. Sems to be what that tweet is implying

The reality for a small market team is not the same as the one for a prime destination. There's a reason "go for it" trades only come from bigger markets.

The big market raptors?

Also to add on to what Hoopguru said, their trade paid off, but it was incredibly risky, and they still lost the guy they paid for, even in their best case scenario.

You need a GM with real balls to do what Masai did.

I guess that’s my point. We don’t have that GM.

Neil just keeps changing the rims on his Geo Metro with an F1 Engine and a 90 year old race car driver.

That would probably require dangling dame out there for a home run trade. Not going to happen.

Powell and Olidipo would be a nice change for defense but would have to cost CJ to get VO, no?? No way it happens. This will be a shrug and "we tried". As if almost snagging a star means something. Just have to wait a few years until Neil and Terry (and Dame) have moved on.

And some luck. Losing Durant to an injury was kind of a factor for the Warriors

But when you really consider what they traded - it really wasn't THAT big of a risk.
Demar + Poltl + #29 Pick is not much...

I think a lot of fans wouldn't be in sync with Dame or others star players as far as trades go.

Woj is reporting the Celtics are all in on acquiring Gordon.

that's the big point

the Raptors were going nowhere...they were stuck on their own treadmill. It was a well above average treadmill, but it was still a treadmill. They essentially risked nothing. Derozan and Poeltl weren't taking them to the ECF. They actually got Danny Green in the deal, and all they gave up pick-wise was the 29th pick in 2019

the equivalent perspective is Portland trading CJ and Zach for Kawhi and a championship. That's a lopsided trade in Portland's favor, and there would have still been a chance, however slight, that Dame could have convinced Kawhi to stay

this did not take big balls by the Raptor GM...all it required is for their GM to have a little objectivity about the roster and not cling so stubbornly to high-level mediocrity and favorite players. He did his job

Can't trade future CJ! No!
