I'd do it, but I'd like to keep 14.

Me too, but I don't think there is any way that Grant on his current contract or Grant+Thybulle can return the #5 pick from a team like Detroit without #14 (those second rounders aren't likely going to cut it). Of course, if I'm wrong, sign before Detroit can come to its senses.

Edwards suggests helping Portland clear cap space by taking Jerami Grant, the No. 14 pick and possibly Matisse Thybulle in exchange for No. 5. That could speed up the Blazers’ rebuilding process by giving them two selections in this year’s top seven while saving them about $40MM next season.

first Edwards’ bit was the blazers trading 7 and stuff for Grant. then it was ‘the pistons are a dark horse to scoop grant away from the blazers via overpaying for him’, then at the deadline there was this hilarious monstrosity.

I believe in editorial impartiality but in Edwards’ case… I’m not so sure. lol.

Remember Jerami has a history with Detroit. I wonder how that would factor in.
He played hard there and left on very good terms, I think him going back would be totally fine.

They're actually a team better set to win than us next year.

that trade idea had some traction on RealGM, and some of it was with Detroit fans. Generally, they would have preferred the 7th pick (duh) but would settle for 14th pick. Thybulle wasn't mentioned that I recall. #34 was though. It seemed like among Pistons fans, at least those on RealGM, there was not much enthusiasm for the top-half of the lottery prospects

I also liked the suggestion of Ayton + 14 for Duren + 5

I would consider it because keeping Jerami's contract makes no sense.

But surely the difference between 14 and 5 in this draft is nowhere close to Grant and Thybulle.

No way I throw Grant in to just move 9 spots where a similar tier player will be available at our original pick.

Locked on Blazers and Locked On Grizzlies floated this:

Yes please

With the assumption that if the Blazers are going to take Salaun at 7, he'll be there at 9 anyway?

I think the target would more likely be Williams or Knecht at 9.

But it would be interesting to go grab the 5th pick from Detroit and take Salaun or Buzelis at 5, with Williams or Knecht at 9.
