Trading Little would be dumb. He will contribute as a rookie just like Collins did, just wait on it. I don’t wanna add more bad contracts just for a short sighted “window” cuz if you don’t win the championship next year, then what? I might’ve advocated for a Gordon Hayward or whatever, and it might sound like I’m flip flopping, but I also smoke a lot of weed ok?

Collins didnt hardly get on the court his
rookie hear, how did he contribute!?

To me, in reality the team has two timelines. The Nurk/CJ/Damian timeline, and the Zach, Anfernee, Little, and Nurk timeline. They could unload the young guys for a veteran, but he better be really, really good.
To me, that seems kind of risky working with two timelines. I think all of those guys could be on one timeline even though their ages are spread out. But Little; he's another year back and he didn't really advance any in his one year of college. Otto Porter is not a great player but he is a really good player. He's still pretty young at 26, has a 7' 1" wingspan, shoots over 40% from three, 80% FT, plays decent defense, gets some rebounds and a couple assists per game. I think his contract runs out about the same time as Lillard and CJ so one could still start over if things didn't work out.
Maybe it's not Porter but I think Little has late lottery value for a lot of teams and that Portland should have him available in the right deal.

Tough call. Not sure who the right player is, but if he becomes available then you are looking at ending contracts plus a young asset.
We have 3 options there, Simons, Little, or Collins. Pick your poison. Ideally the young asset would be a future 1st instead of one of those, but who knows what the asking price is.

As for Otto Porter the return needs to be at least as good as what they gave up: Bobby Portis, Jabari Parker and two 2nds. So yeah i would include Little.

You’re really trying to argue wether he was in the rotation or not? He was playing closer to 20 minutes a game in the second half of the season.
No, Im just saying he didn't seem to be contributing much in his rookie season.

I couldn't disagree more with this line of thinking. I've mentioned this before but teams that don't prioritize developing young players no matter what the timeline is usually hit a wall when their players get over and fall off a cliff. Look at Miami and Cleveland post LeBron. They traded most of their picks while having LeBron on the team.

Not many teams over the years that make a deep run in the playoffs can also claim to have a pretty solid under-22 developmental team as well. We have Simons, Trent, Little, Skal, and Collins all capable of popping at some point. I'm not saying don't trade them if you have to but that is some really nice potential that most good teams don't have outside of their normal rotation.

If anyone wants to be upset at RP and Lebron I think its this, he leaves teams basically devoid of talent, with not many assets, now its not his job to make the team handle their business, but I think Both Cleveland and Miami were giving up on their future in attempts to keep him happy.

Now in LA if things dont work out talking about a team with not a ton of assets...

I agree, but with a caveat. While the current rotation made it to the WCF, I don't see how the team can maintain that success, let alone build on it, while relying so heavily on guys like ET, Hark, and Aminu. I'm not convinced Olshey will find adequate replacements for Curry/Hood/Kanter, let alone upgrades for the other 3. When you look at the sheer number of current needs, I have to wonder if Olshey can keep both balls in the air at once.

Yes, this is all true. The caveat to your caveat (ha ha) is that if just one or two of those guys (Simons, Little, Skal, or Trent) turn into rotational players or better yet starter/star level players then it kind of makes what we do with those other guys not matter quite as much. Now that's probably asking a lot of Simons and Little in particular to be solid rotation guys let alone as good as Curry and Hood were for us but it's not that far fetched to think by the end of the season they could match most of their productivity.

If this team can just tread water and stay in the playoff race until closer to the trade line then I think we could make some moves without having to give up too much in terms of young assets. Heck the Bulls basically got Porter last year for expiring contracts.

The other thing too is that if we do bring in a Blake Griffin or an Otto Porter it completely ruins any chance of flexibility next summer. Without that flexibility if we trade away too many young assets then we'll pretty much be stuck with that team for two years. That could be fine and totally worth it if it makes the team contend but if they don't any further than last year, deplete their assets, and lose cap flexibility is that really the best route?

I was for moves like trading for Hayward, trading for Wiggins, but now...nah. I love Little and I think he will be in the rotation as a rookie, at some point. We could make an aggressive move for this one year window, but if we don’t win the championship, then what? I think I’d rather just stay the course, stay patient, and when money opens up again starting next summer, make smarter decisions on who to spend it on.

I hope so much that Little is gonna be able to shoot something like 37% or 38% on spot-up 3s, but first, he has to be in Rotation. We dont know how the roster looks on opening night, but what we know is that Stotts and the Blazers in general dont give much playing time to rookies, thats one thing i've never liked about our team. I would have loved it to see more of Simons last Season, but i really hope they give Little good minutes, sometimes it's better to throw a rookie in the fire instead of waiting and being patient

I don’t know if Stotts doesn’t play rookies more so that Stotts just doesn’t have good rookies to play. I mean, Collins played. Back when CJ, Barton Crabbe, etc didn’t play the roster was much more loaded. Simons was super raw, I don’t think it would’ve been fair to him to throw him out there when he was a couple months removed from an academy. He would’ve most likely gotten destroyed physically, especially defensively.

I think Little is more like Collins. He won’t be expected to play, but when he eventually does, he’ll stick.

I know that we have all (rightfully) fallen in love with Little. But he is not at the age or stage of development where he will fit the team's timeline. But what if we could now include him in a trade (I'm assuming we can?). A trade for an established SF that could also free up enough money to sign Hood. I don't know what cap value Nassir would have in a trade. What I am suggesting is something like Little (and a future pick?) plus Turner, Harkless and Leonard for Otto Porter and two years of Felicio. Wouldn't Little fit in a lot better with Chicago's timeline? (I almost want to run this by Hoopsjock before I post it so he can tell me why it's not possible. :) )
What? If he can shoot a 35% clip from 3, he's already better than Harkless. How doesn't he match up with this teams timeline? He's as ready as anyone who was available at 25...

Yes i hope so.

I want Hayward. I don't think Boston has a use for him if Kyrie and Horford are leaving.

Turner and Harkless for Hayward. I think he's ready for a resurgence and he needs a change of scenery.

I'm talking about obtaining Porter who is a consistent 40% 3pt shooter versus a guy who has never shot 3s in the NBA and would probably take a couple years to develop a consistent 3 pt shot. Porter is approximately same age as Dame and CJ, and also same experience level.

I'm wondering if the move might be to throw Little into the fire as the starting SF.

Dump Harkless and his contract with future 2nds to open up the money to bring back Hood for the MLE and Aminu on a 1-year contract. Then roll with Little playing 15 minutes a game as the starting SF with Hood playing 30 minutes a game off the bench.

Lillard (36) / Simons (12) / Turner (NO MIN!!!)
McCollum (35) / Simons (8) / Hood (5)
Little (15) / Hood (25) / Layman (8)
Aminu (30) / Layman (12) / Labissiere (6)
Collins (24) / Leonard (20) / Labissiere (10)

Steven Adams is available.....

He's the perfect type of center to have next to Dame and CJ.

They could find someone cheap to start and play 15-20m at SF while Little gets his feet wet. Two guys off the top sefolosha and Luol Deng. And yes dumping Harkless to free up the money for Hood should be the priority. I just can’t see Harkless being in the teams plans with Little around, so if they’re not going to re-sign him, may as well dump him now to keep Hood around.

Too me that would be taking a back seat. I thought the Blazers where a team ready to win now or are they not?

The blazers are screwed if they have to rely on Layman playing at all, much less
minutes a game. He showed last year once teams had some tape on him he disappeared on offense and was a major liability on defense.

Another thing about potentially dumping Harkless, we probably wouldn’t need to attach a first to make it happen. Maybe a second. If he were a FA I think he would get more than the tax MLE. I mean shit look at how much Hezonja got last summer (1 yr/$6.5M) Its not like the market is littered with servicable 26 year old wings either and the ones that are (Barnes, Middleton, Tobias) are gonna get a hell of a lot more than $11M. I’d rather have Moe for one year at $11M (plus bird rights) than spend $80M or whatever on Harrison Barnes.

Oh, the Layman hater is back again.
