I don't get why NOP would want CJ now, his timeline is far off of the rest of the team, wouldn't be surprised if they trade Jrue, to just be younger and hope that all those picks and Zion are good so in 5 years or so they can be good.
 
We've talked about aldridge on here before, plenty, but I'm kinda curious about DeRozan, and if we'd be able to get him for cheap-ish from SA. Doubtful, with pop sticking around, but even with his non existent 3 point shooting, I'd love to have him at the 3, as another ball handler on the floor. His playmaking would make up for his lack of spacing on the floor, IMO. Curious what SA does this offseason.
 
Here’s a name: Hassan Whiteside. He almost came here a couple years ago. He was coming off the bench for Miami late in the year so he’s probably not in their long term plans (he’s also a FA after next season, assuming he opts in)

Send Miami some expirings and a pick. There’s your starting center until Nurk returns and quality depth once he does.

Good idea, they might consider moving him for Meyers and Turner.
 
Boston would also give NO pick(s) in this scenario:

Why would we want to take on Hayward? Well, he seemed to be improving in the second half of this past season and while he's RIDICULOUSLY overpaid, I think he's a better fit for us than perhaps he was for Boston (and than Evan Turner turned out to be). The trade makes sense for Boston if Kyrie bolts (supposedly almost certainly) and for Holiday because he doesn't want to be part of a rebuild in NO. I also think he would thrive in the Brad Stevens system.
NO could also send E'Twaun Moore to Boston and the trade would then clear them a bit of space.

Jrue is worth a lot more than that. Just cut them out and deal with Boston directly for Hayward.
 
Minnesota seems like an ideal trade partner. I’ve been digging on Charlotte and Minnesota, and it seems like Charlotte wants to move up, if anything. Kupchak is on record saying he can’t see them moving back. Lowe said a couple teams kicked the tires on Wiggins around the deadline but nothing came to fruition. Dude is massively overpaid but fits Olsheys MO. He’s also much younger than some other potential projects (Hayward, Batum)

If we sent them Turner and Harkless (along with #25) for Wiggins, I believe we’d also open up the full MLE, which we could give to Hood.

The only question I have is the tax apron. How would that work if we opened up the full MLE? Would we have enough money to keep Aminu, or would we have to go cheap to fill out the rest of the roster?

Not sure what they can do with cap space generated from those expirings though, make a splash next offseason? I don't think anybody would go there. I don't like Wiggins and his contract is terrible, but basically waiving him is not really the solution. He is a 24 year old that has a career average of 20 ppg after all.

If you use the FULL MLE, then you have to stay below the tax apron for the entire year. Thus you can't sign anyone (Aminu, etc) to an amount or trade for anyone where you would go over the apron.

Yeah I know, I meant specifically, meaning roughly how much $ we’d have/how far below the apron we’d be.
 
I wonder if the Kings would trade Barnes or they count on him for the future. They got him for basically nothing trying to push for the playoffs so I don't really know if they are high on him or not. I suppose he picks up the option and we get him for Turner, Harkless while we also give the Kings our pick since they don't have one in the first round this year.

We need shooting and scoring from the wings desperately and Barnes can do that.
 
Look, Portland has to wait until next year when all these Albatross-around-the-neck contracts are up. Maybe then they can attract some talent.

If the trade was exactly as shown and we gave the MLE to Hood (so minus ET and Hark, plus Wiggins and Hood):

Hard cap: Approx $138,000,000 (estimated until new league year exact numbers are set)

Pre-signing Hood: $123,611,711

After signing Hood: $132,857,711

So we'd have roughly $5,142,289 to play with but couldn't go over that amount for any reason. We'd only have 10 players on our roster so we'd have to sign at least 4 or more likely 5 with Nurk being injured.

Minimum Salary for undrafted rookies: $897,158

Let's say we signed 3 of those guys at that price. That leaves us $2,450,815 to sign either Aminu or Layman (could only sign one) or to sign one other minimum contract guy who has 9 or less years of service.

Conclusion: Adding Wiggins via trade and Hood for the full-MLE pretty much screws us this season unless another trade is made too, say dumping Leonard's contract or something like that.

I like the idea of Turner and #25 for Bjelica, good shooter and more front line help, saves us about 10 mil in cap

Not that it really matters, but Divac allegedly promised Bjelica he'd have a no trade clause even though it's not in his contract. Bjelica initially signed with Philly and then backed out of the deal and signed with Sacramento.

My "guess" is he would not mind coming to Portland, good rep as a place to play, made WCF last yr and much better than Sac, great team leader in Dame, plus he gets plenty of minutes as we badly need good front ct help
