I wonder if Portland could find an asset by using Jake Layman going outwards in a S&T (since sign-and-trading players outward doesn't hard-cap the team).

If a team with cap-space makes a push for Layman, Portland could possibly agree to give that team Layman in a S&T (where Portland would otherwise match).

Then Layman would count as outgoing salary and Portland could try to involve a 3rd team and get a player back elsewhere.

So if Layman signs for $5.5M, then Portland could trade:
Layman and get back $6.98M
TARGETS - Juan Hernangomez (DEN), Nemanja Bjelica (SAC), Aron Baynes (PHX), Dwight Howard (WAS),

TARGETS if Layman signs for $5.52M or more - Davis Bertans (SAS), Ersan Ilyasova (MIL)
Layman and Trent and get back $8.75M / Layman and Skal and get back $9.90M
TARGETS - Jae Crowder (MEM)
Layman, Trent, and Skal and get back $11.68M
TARGETS -John Henson (CLE)

I don't see us trading Whiteside. I think we will need him until 2020-2021.

I agree unless something terribly goes wrong (i.e injuries) and we go into a tail spin that forces us to tank for the last part of the year.

Love the idea of Juan Hernangomez, but I can't see Denver giving him to us.

At next years deadline if Nurk is looking good, Det and Cle suck, and Neil is feeling ballsy...

Dame/Simons
CJ/Trent
Porter Jr/Hood/Little
Griffin/Zach
Nurk/Skal

That’s a contender.

Ive had sinilar ideas.

Whiteside to a 3rd team.

DET gets a pick and expiring(s) from the 3rd team, as well as GT Jr.

Portland gets Otto Porter Jr.

Then we still have all our picks, young assets (minus GT Jr), and Bazemore to go after Griffin.

That team is the #1 team in the league

I love this idea at the deadline. Kind of like separate deals combined to make it work financially.

POR Gets: Robert Covington, Otto Porter Jr
MIN Gets: Gary Trent Jr, Skal Labissiere, 2020 POR 1st
CHI Gets: TM4 Future 1st and Expirings, Future POR 2nds
TM4 Gets: Hassan Whiteside

Essentially:

- Labissiere, Trent, and a pick to MIN for Covington (MIN saves $8M or so)

- Whiteside and future 2nds to CHI for Porter Jr.

- Chicago flips Whiteside to 4th team (contender) for expirings and a 1st. Chicago would trade Porter for a 1st, 2nds, and expirings.

Is this after Nurk comes back?

Then trade another distant future 2nd or two (2024 through 2026?) and cash to Charlotte for Hernangomez (absorbed with Layman TPE).

Lillard (36) / McCollum (12)
McCollum (24) / Hood (24)
Covington (34) / Porter Jr. (8) / Hood (6)
Porter Jr. (26) / Collins (22)
Nurkic (28) / Hernangomez (15) / Collins (5)

Is this after Nurk comes back?
Yes, Whiteside would hold over until Nurkic gets back, our guards and system would rebuild his value back to the point that us or Chicago could potentially fetch a late 1st from a contender who needs a C and has expirings to trade for Whiteside, and then we could use those expirings and the extra pick in the deal to help us land both Porter Jr and Covington.

Sorry if I missed it where did Simons end up?

I think that's definitely possible to go after both. LAC, LAL, and UTA don't really have assets left to trade. We'd definitely have to worry about CHI and MIN possibly trading one of those guys to GSW for Russell, which makes a lot of sense for both teams. DEN could possibly make a play as well.

I think Houston would go hard after Gallinari and Boston would go hard after Griffin.

Bazemore and a pick for Ibaka.

Sign Jeremy Lin.

Rotation would be:

Dame/Lin
CJ/Ant
Hood/Mario
Ibaka/Tolliver
Whiteside/Collins

Really lose a lot of size unfortunately but FA isn’t over, we can still add some.

Ooooh, add that to the trade idea I came up with an I like it.

I'm talking about at the deadline. This deal wouldn't work now.
I know I’m just saying we would be thin unless we sign some other bigs NOW. Nurk and Collins would be the only two true bigs on our team at that point.

So:

POR Gets: Robert Covington, Otto Porter Jr
MIN Gets: Gary Trent Jr, Skal Labissiere, 2020 POR 1st
CHI Gets: Anfernee Simons, TM4 Future 1st and Expirings
TM4 Gets: Hassan Whiteside

then

POR Gets: Serge Ibaka
TOR Gets: Kent Bazemore, 2022 POR 1st (superdraft), Future POR 2nds

Lillard (36) / McCollum (12)
McCollum (24) / Hood (24)
Covington (33) / Porter Jr (15)
Porter Jr (18) / Collins (22) / Ibaka (8)
Nurkic (28) / Ibaka (20)

I know. Should try to get Hernangomez with the Layman TPE.

This is why I love what Neil did this summer. Helping out Minnesota with Jake could get us a foot in the door on Covington. Two nice young pieces with a pick and $8M savings for Covington is reasonable.

Flipping Whiteside for a 1st and expirings is reasonable.

Simons, a 1st, and expirings for Otto Porter Jr. is very reasonable.

Bazemore, a 1st, and 2nds for Ibaka is reasonable.

And we still have Little and our 2024 1st to add to any of those deals to make them work if needed.

That team would be the best team in the West.
