as someone who has been beating the simmons to portland drum for almost 3 yrs now, this is what i have been thinking. There is no way he would be available if he didn't have that horrific playoff run last month.
100%, buy low!

but the context of my argument was the debate between him and Sabonis.
Not going to quibble about that debate because again it's apples and oranges... just feels slightly disingenuous to use one guy at his absolute lowest vs. another coming off his best season... Like even if I preferred oranges to apples, I'd still choose an average apple over a moldy orange.

That said, argue away...

Ok well, whoever brought up that comparison is rather silly. Sabonis is quite clearly off the table. Might as well compare Simmons fit/talent to Michael Jordan in his prime and how he'd play next to Dame. "Doesn't matter" and "Who cares?" are the two phrases that come to mind.

That's utterly false it's not ALL about potential. He would fix our biggest issues - Perimeter Defense and secondary playmaker/ball handler - Right now today, as is. He's a terrible fit next to Embiid in case that wasn't clear. A team properly built around him with the proper coach and proper motivation is what he needs. He doesn't even need a jump shot to be extremely effective. If he can just become a better FT shooter - which btw is BY FAR the easiest skill to learn - he would instantly be a no-brainer. The only reason we can take a crack at this guy is due to his current flaws. People seem to forget CJ's far more concerning flaws of no defense and horrible mental mistakes like stepping out of bounds on a crucial momentum-changing play. I wouldn't trade Dame for Simmons, but literally, anyone else on the team is on the table because Simmons is already, as I write this, a vastly and I mean vastly better player than anyone on our team not named Dame.

Maybe he needs to learn to shoot his free throws underhanded ala Rick Barry!

Actually, everyone should. It's one of the funniest things in the league. Everything is hyper-efficient and maximized in the league, but nobody wants to look weak by shooting underhand.

Especially at the end of games. The relaxed easy motion eliminates some of the fatigue. No excuse for those shooting under 75%

Yeah I mean it was years ago, but I want to say there was an immediate 10-20% increase in FT % for bad shooters. Obviously, Dame isn't going to hit 110% even though he gave that level of effort to us every game of the playoffs.

There are a number of guard rumors out there but I have seen one involving a trailblazer?
Expect the unexpected?

If the media has wind of the rumor, it's already dead. So yes, the fact that you haven't seen many "official" rumors about Blazer guards means expect the unexpected, maybe.

Why are the Cavs trying to dump Nance? We should be offering DJJ yesterday.

Just came here to post that same link. I'd happily take them both Osman would be an ok 8th man, albeit overpaid.

Maybe they want to get rid of Osman in the same deal. No problem; CJ for Nancc, Osman, Prince and the #3 pick!
In fact, I will take care of all of their money problems if they will give up that #3. Love, Nance and Osman for CJ, Jones and Little.

I think we could see us trading CJ, RoCo and a future first to the Sixers for Simmons.

With that trade I think a trade of DJJ and a future first to the Cavs for Larry Nance Jr. could make sense for both teams.

Then I could see us trading Nurk to the Raptors for Boucher.

Obviously we would need to re-sign Norm. I like Boucher because he shoots the three, blocks shots and is mobile enough to get out on the perimeter and recover and Nance is very similar to what RoCo is but he's a little younger and has another year left on his very manageable contract. If we did this and Norm's contract started at 22M for this upcoming season, we could use the full MLE on another versatile front court player in Bobby Portis.

Our cap number would be just under 132M at that point and we would be hard capped but we would only have to fill four or five more roster spots with minimum contracts which wouldn't bring us over the hard cap that I think is over 146M.

Dame, Norm, Simmons, Nance, Portis, Boucher, Ant, Nas, Elleby and a bunch of minimum contracts hopefully two of which would compete to be rotational players would be a damn good roster.

Nance is underrated. Great defender. Improved shooter. Can pass. Id take him for a first.
the asking price for him at the deadline was 2 firsts.

I think he's a good C if we land Simmons.
