Well, a trade seems more out of reach than it ever has been this season...Evans and Wilcox have new teams, and the Cats don't want to let Ely leave. But I've managed to think of a few trades anyway...
Scenario #1
Nets Trade: Jacque Vaughn
Knicks Trade: David Lee
Nets Receive: David Lee
Why do this trade? Lee is somewhat undersized, but is still an excellent rebounder and also brings great FG% (59%).
Knicks Receive: Jacque Vaughn
Why do this trade? Vaughn is a pass first, defensive minded point guard: exactly the kind of point guard Coach Brown loves, and exactly the kind of point guard the Knicks don't have.
Scenario #2
Nets Trade: Zoran Planinic, Marc Jackson, Clippers 1st round pick
Spurs Trade: Nazr Mohammed
Nets Receive: Nazr Mohammed
Why do this trade? Nazr has proven to be a great rebounder and is also good at blocking shots. Plus, his contract expires after this season, which saves the Nets around 5.5 million dollars and helps them relieve some luxury tax. If he decides to resign for a reasonable amount, then better for everybody.
Spurs Receive: Marc Jackson, Zoran Planinic, Clippers 1st round pick
Why do this trade? Mohammed has been stuck behind Rasho Nesterovic in the rotation all season long, so he won't be a big loss. With the Spurs pick being at the 27-30 range by the end of the season, they'll be glad to receive a pick that could go from the lottery to around 17th or 18th pick. Planinic could improve in San Antonio, where foreign players have been known to improve rapidly. Jackson is pretty much a big body used as a throw in, who won't bring much to the table but whose contract end after new season.
Scenario #3
Nets Trade: Jacque Vaughn, future 2nd round pick
Blazers Trade: Travis Outlaw
Nets Receive: Travis Outlaw
Why do this trade? This trade is based mostly on potential. Outlwaw is only 21 years old and excelled in the summer league last preseason. He hasn't gotten his chance in Portland, though. He could become a beast or a bust. He's known for his exceptional athletisicm and his great shot blocking. Not a great defender, though.
Portland Receives: Jacque Vaughn, future 2nd round pick
Why do this trade? Vaughn is just an expiring contract that saves the Blazers one million dollars next offseason. The 2nd round pick could become valuable. The Blazers don't have much to lost here, since they've pretty much proclaimed Outlaw a bust.
