Trades that "move the needle"

Dosen't matter. He has a 20 million dollar expiring deal and he would have great value.

This was 50% of my thinking: we get Carmello/Aldridge/Lillard and a decent supporting cast for two years - then our salary cap opens big and you build around Lillard

The only way to move the needle is to improve the Center/Backup Center duo either by trading for a new starting center or a new backup center.

Don't want Carmelo on this team.

And that won't be enough for him. Especially if you're adding players. You're pretty much saying Batum for Melo. and that's a joke.

Batum for Mello is no joke - and add to the mix Wes Matthews, who is playing like a top 8 sg....and I don't see the joke.

Melo is a chemistry buster. New York before they decided to trade for New York under Gallinari and Chandler had really good chemistry going. When they made the trade I think that stunted the growth of the club. I could see the same thing happen to Portland if they made such a move for him.

No interest in Carmelo.

And what has Denver done since trading Melo? NOTHING. With Melo they were a contender

Unlike you guys, i'd have no problem trading Batum and Matthews for Carmelo Anthony. Never been a big fan of him,but the dude is one of the most talented bucket-getters in the history of basketball. He might not be LeBron or Kobe, but just think of the devastation a Dame/LMA/Melo core could do. Cutting, slashing, shooting, superstar calls.

And the only one doing that is Melo. The rest are watching.

No to melo. End of discussion.

I've never seen a team win with Melo scoring all the points.

Stop the melo talk. He's a horrible team player, and he'd be the worst on this team.

Great read everyone. Quite passionate opinions of Carmello.

But...

Lillard
Aldridge
Anthony

Rivals Miami, SA, OKC, Houston and Brooklyn - and Neil has built us a bench! We really are one ballsy move from potentially being a true contender. Our current roster will only have a Cinderella-story of a chance at winning it all. This has become LMA's team and adding Carmello would not change this.

My title thread was aimed to generate a multiple of needle-moving ideas. At the moment there doesn't appear to be many. Either we are really close or just one player away!

Go Blazers!

While that may be true, he would also be on a far more offensively talented team with the Blazers than he is with the Knicks. Taking the ball out of a beasts like Dame or LMA's hands is not something Melo can do. As long as he hopes to win, at least.

completely agree. One elite player (like Melo) and we can be a true contender

He was surrounded by talent an got them past the 1st round once. Some superstar.

Trading for Carmelo Anthony definitely moves the needle - in the WRONG direction.

BNM

getting matched up against better teams every year has that effect. The Spurs, Lakers and T Wolves were killers throughout that stretch, then when he got Billups he was able to make it farther. IT wasn't on MElo that those teams didnt advance

Ok - let's take a stab at this question:

Assuming the salaries of Batum and Matthews were what it took to trade for that one player to compliment Lillard and LMA - aside from Melo, who might it be?

Larry Sanders?

Dirk Nowitski?

Moving Batum means that the "all star" has to be a small forward.

If it is an Allstar SF- Melo is about the only option I find. After that the trade has to be a package that brings in a defensive stopper in the middle -

Don't see any other area for a needle-moving trade right now

I'd say you're getting warm with Larry Sanders. Lopez seems like a nice kid but if we're talking about this team getting 'close' to contention, you have to immediately talk about defense--specifically D at he rim, and maybe a backup 3 who can stop guys (Wright is okay but not great).

If Anthony puts on a Blazers jersey, I will actively root against the team until he's gone.

This Melo Maddness is easily squashed.

Ask yourself, what are the Blazers doing well? Why are they getting open shots? Hint: Ball movement

Conclusion: Bad fit. Melo doesn't pass the ball.

Ask yourself what the Blazers aren't doing well? Why are teams scoring? Hint: lacking defense

Conclusion: Bad fit. Melo doesn't play defense.

Why would Melo every come to Portland when he forced a trade out of Denver?

Conclusion: Bad fit. He would never want to be in Portland.

Why are people suggesting a trade for Melo?

Conclusion: People don't think past their fantasy basketball rosters, and my God have mercy on your soul.

Good post.

If you want to think about trades that the Blazers might be interested in, look at the kind of players that have been on the Spurs' roster in the past decade. It's pretty apparent that's the model the Blazers are building under. The current roster is a pretty good facsimile of that already.

I would consider wes but I hate the thought of loosing Batum. You have to remember that Batum might be the only SF that can guard quick PG and that can come in very handy in the playoffs. But ya those superstar calls sure sound good!

Lead story on EPSN: Melo not getting superstar calls, coach says.

http://espn.go.com/new-york/nba/sto...o-anthony-not-getting-calls-mike-woodson-says

1) Cry me a river coach (not to be confused with cry me coach Rivers)

2) Another reason to this Melo fantasy should go away

I think we all watched enough of him in Denver to know trading for him would be a bad idea, and why the talk of the Lakers getting him would be a very good idea for Laker haters.
