Seems to be a fair replacement except for the Crabbe salary.

A few other notes on Morrow's 3-point shooting:

Only Stephen Curry, Kyle Korver and Klay Thompson have matched Morrow’s career efficiency (41.7%) and volume (8.0 attempts per 100 possessions) while playing even half as many minutes as Morrow.

In his first 8 seasons in the league, Morrow never shit below .371 3FG%, and shot .423 or better 3FG% 5 times.

I guess the question then becomes why hasn't he played more?

Like Crabbe, he is a 1-dimensional 3-point specialist. Through his first 4 seasons in the league, Morrow averaged 27.4 MPG, compared to 22.8 MPG for Crabbe.

Morrow is basically Allen Crabbe, but has been doing the same things for a lot longer for a lot less money.

Here is a comparison of their carrier stats. Two extremely similar players with very comparable production.

The most significant difference is that Crabbe will be paid more this season than Morrow made in his first 8 seasons combined.

He'll fit right in to Portland:

Free-agent NBA guard Anthony Morrow alleges racial profiling in traffic stop

Free-agent NBA guard Anthony Morrow alleged that he was the target of racial profiling by police who stopped his vehicle in rural Georgia last week.

Morrow, 31, detailed his story on Instagram after he was pulled over on Thursday in Jackson County without probable cause as he was driving on I-85. He wrote that two officers "damn near pulled my car apart looking for drugs and money."

Morrow said multiple times that the officers were from the Commerce (Ga.) Police Department and that he filed a complaint with the department. Commerce Police Chief Zach Ardis told USA TODAY Sports in an email that the officers mentioned by Morrow work for the Georgia State Patrol.

Noel update: Nerlens Noel agrees to sign $4.1 million qualifying offer from Mavericks

Morrow has played nine seasons in the NBA, most recently with the Oklahoma City Thunder and Chicago Bulls last season. The Charlotte native went undrafted out of Georgia Tech.

"We have to understand how to deal with the police," Morrow said in an Instagram video. "At the end of the day, we are at their discretion. . . . You have to understand some cops are different.

"You have to be prepared when they come to the passenger-side or driver-side window. It is what it is. We have to fight against that racial profiling in police departments. That’s all I’m saying."

I didn't ask about Crabbe. And Crabbe played steady minutes and is now a starter.

They pulled him over for driving a car with tinted windows - in the South - in August.

That's some kind of bullshit. I spent two summers in the South and trust me, tinted windows are a godsend.

No, you didnt. But you did ask why Morrow hasn't played more minutes and I pointed out he has played comparable minutes, at a comparable level of production, to the guy he is intended to replace.

I see you edited your post since my previous reply.

Morrow was also a starter for the Nets, but it was his third year in the league, not his fifth, like Crabbe.

I'm not sure starting for the Nets is much to brag about, then or now.

I'm getting more and more happy with this signing. I've always liked Morrow as a shooter. Great "undrafted" letter he wrote too - can never have too many quality guys on one team! Welcome Anthony (Morrow). We'll look to welcome the other Anthony later.

I'm just saying crabbes trajectory is going up while morrow has struggled to play consistently wherever he's been. I like the signing but I do wonder why that is.

This is exactly why I hated the Crabbe signing, as I told so many on this board, you can get a spot up shooter of Crabbe's ability for ALOT less than 18 mil per year.

Stupid Neil Olshey.

Probably because most coaches realize that 1-dimensional spot up shooters do not make good starters.

In terms of trajectory, Crabbe will have a chance to be a starter on one of the worst teams in the league, but as a player, he has yet to add any new skills to his game. He is still below average at everything except making wide open spot up 3-pointers. It is yet to be seen how effective he will be as a starter.

Apparently the Nets have not learned from their past mistakes. They also tried to make Morrow a starter and that didn't work out too well. Time will tell if Crabbe fares any better in that role.

It's a big opportunity for Crabbe, but the only reason he'll be a starter is that, after trading away all of their lottery picks, BRK is nearly completely devoid of talent.

In terms of minutes, Morrow played over 1500 minutes 5 times on his first 8 seasons. Crabbe has done so twice in four years. 1500 - 1800 minutes seems like about the right amount for a role playing specialist.

Crabbe should get more than that this year, but so did Morrow at a similar point in his career. I think a lot of it has to do with age and the hope of the player developing into something more than a 1-dimensional specialist.

That's why POR matched BRK's offer sheet. They hoped Crabbe would expand his game. He did not, but fortunately BRK was just as desperate this summer as they were last and was willing to take Crabbe, and his contract off our hands.

Bottom line, unless Crabbe significantly expands his game, he should not be starting on a team that hopes to even sniff the playoffs.

The difference is at his age, no one expects Anthony Morris to be relied on as a starter. OKC's helter skelter Westbrook triple double machine was a terrible fit for Morrow (or any other rhythm shooter) last year. I expect he will fare far better in Stotts' flow offense this season.

Stupid Neil Olshey.

The word was Paul was the one adamant about matching BRK's offer. So perhaps that should be: Stupid Paul Allen.

In any case, Neil was given a Mulligan when BRK was still willing to take Crabbe off our hands. Neil has obviously learned from his mistake and picked up a replacement on a minimum non-guaranteed contract.

If you're going to bash Olshey for matching BRK's offer sheet to Crabbe, you should be consistent and praise him for signing Morrow (and drafting Dame and C.J. and trading for Nurk).
