Notice TRAIL BLAZERS TO START NBA SUMMER LEAGUE ON AUGUST 8

My question is; why didn't he play more than 14 minutes. I am confused as to what we are trying to do with our summer league team.

I looked more at what he did in just that 14 minutes. Nine points. Four-of-six shooting.

It might be this simple: The Blazers know they're keeping Brown, but he's not going to be contributing much this season. OTOH, all these vets they have on the team are being auditioned for a spot on the roster this year. Probably none of them will stick, but we're going to do our due diligence while we have them to see if someone can come to the Blazers and fill a role.

I think he’s looked pretty good defensively, but yeah he does seem to be lacking in the athleticism department. I think it’ll all just depend on his shot making ability, because similarly built players have had recent success (Dillon Brooks for example)

Brooks, though, is a perimeter player. Watford's an inside player.

I'd like to see the guy succeed, because he seems to be a guy who's worked at his game, but I just think the athletic challenges might be a little much for him.

I blinked and I missed Vital's minutes. I think I saw a chubby guy waddling around - was that him? Is he not playing because he's out of shape?

I also really hoped to see more of Milton Doyle, but I guess he must be a scrub? If this is anything like SLs past, they'll shut down people like Beasley before the last game and let people like him show off their wares. (But maybe that was before they instituted the tournament?)

Watford is tantalizing. He really knows what he's doing out there and can pass very well for a guy his height (led us in assists with 5). BUT, he's trying to play bully-ball and he's not big or athletic enough to do that in the NBA. But he's got the confidence of having been a tippy-top high school prospect. I hope he sticks.

It's summer league. It means nothing.

and Rogers admitted outright that he's also trying to placate management and their commitments to players to get them PT (guessing this is referring to Mudiay/Beas/Blakeney/etc)

can we waive Elleby? guy does not have it at all
What's funny is that he looked better last season in actual NBA games. Maybe he's not this bad. But if these two games were his NBA audition, he would have failed the skills test portion of the interview.

I didn't recognize him first because of his change of hair. He looked skinnier, taller and even more awkward. He looked like the super skinny tall guy you'd know at the local hoop, who would dominate against other schlubs, but when against actual talent, sucks.

It's not just that, he is the leader of this SL team, they look lost without him, I think they had maybe +2 with him on the bench, +18 when he was playing.
He brings intangibles, energy, defense of course. He knows he ain't the most skilled player but takes the open shot when he's got it and plays winning basketball in general.
I'm hoping coaching staff/management see more in him than some fans here

He was brutal shooting-wise. Then he hit a few shots. I was trying to give him my glasses he was missing so bad. I mean some of those airballs were 4 feet off. But he does rebound well, and he moves well. Too early to make a kneejerk decision. I do think he is talented. Needs to relax. He looked to amped up last night.

Man! Faried sure gives it his all. Looks like a pogo stick. He is super light on his feet. But he sure does hit the floor a lot. Impressed with his rebounding. He needs to settle down with the ball. He rushes his shots. But his energy is infectious, and i really think he could help this season. I hope he sticks.

I thought summer league was for introducing our new players to the style of play for our team. Getting an idea what they can do against top notch competition. Or in the case of second year players, give them a lot of minutes that they couldn't get in the regular season, to see what they have and develop their skills.

That makes some sense.

Elleby is just trying too hard right now, I think. Also he may be one of those guys who only prospers when he is playing a lot and running the team (like he did at WSU), which probably won't ever happen. A player like Trent, for example, was a role player at Duke so it wasn't much of an adjustment for him.

My gut feeling… Blazers win summer league champion again

Didn't the Blazers try to get Faried a couple of years ago? I like him. I think he could help the team.

Yes.

Olshey wanted him

Here's my take on our unorthodox SL team makeup:
We don't have any high draft picks. We have last year's low draft pick whom we're hoping to make into a rotation player and a couple of players who will be D-League fodder. The team focus seems clearly set on developing CJ, because he's getting the most minutes of anyone, so the point seems to be to have him play something similar to what his role would be in the regular season, with maybe a bit more responsibility to stretch him a little. Meanwhile you can do agents a favor by showcasing their old has-beens who might be out of a job in China because of their new rules about foreign players and make dumb obsessive fans like us feel good by having a little winning happen to players in Blazers jerseys. And if one of them looks solid, maybe he gets a training camp invite. But the main point is developing CJ. (So it's a little awkward that he's struggled so much, although he's still a positive +/- at least.)

When I go to the game Saturday we may have the opportunity to clinch the #1 overall seed for the playoffs. Can you imagine being at the game where we do that???
Blazers looking down at the Lakers in the standings.

Patrick Williams is lightning it up for the Bulls.
I saw him last year and knew he is going to be special. Another player i really liked on the Bulls last year and hoped we could get for the exception is Otto Porter. Signed with the Warriors if I'm not mistaken.

Elleby starts right where he left off - 2 attempts that couldn't even draw rim.

An impressive run.
