Remdesivir anti-viral trial reports 'rapid recoveries' for severe hospitalised coronavirus patients with 'nearly all' discharged within a week and only two deaths out of 125
  • University of Chicago recruited 125 COVID-19 patients - 113 with severe disease
  • It was part of Gilead Sciences clinical trials of experimental drug remdesivir
  • Patients had daily remdesivir infusions and most saw symptoms ease in a week
  • Gilead Sciences Inc's shares surged 16 per cent in after hours trading Thursday

This is awesome news! The more successful treatments the better.

That's still a high death rate of 1.6%.

probably the first major breakthrough since it's a phase 3 test result....2 out of 125....if I were infected I'd take those odds to survive...my hernia surgery last year had a 1% chance of failure or lifelong discomfort.....the bad news today is they've found recovered patients having relapses and getting infected twice. That's frightening

any treatment that offers good results, especially for those severely ill, is great news. Effective treatments that bridge the gap between now and when there's a widely available vaccine are critically important

The death rate is from those in serious condition. It isn’t a death rate of infected. This is a pretty good result.
The official death rate is about 5%.
741,000 infected and 39,000 dead.
780,000/39,000 = 0.05

I believe the world wide death rate from Covid19 is somewhere around 3.7%. Trump's hard work has improved our death rate from 3.7% to 5%.

What the hell does this response have to do with the mortality rate of this therapeutic treatment? Those treated were in serious condition. Like 30-50% mortality rate without treatment. :smh:

Hey, I haven't even had my coffee yet and you expect me to be cognizant of things? This stuff just pops into my pretty little head and out it comes. I promise, I'll make better sense after my coffee.

Why does the right wingers never want to talk about this drug anymore?

I’m still talking about this drug. Last time I checked, there were articles shared a couple days ago regarding it. Oh, I see. Maybe you not watching the left wing mob not talking about it? Well that’s because they have something else to attack Trump on. :dunno:

I listen to right wing bullshit a couple hours a day. Haven’t heard a peep about it out of Lars Larson, Limbaugh or Levin. They were talking non stop about it a couple weeks ago.

Yep, Levin is on the defense of civil liberties now. That will always trump any other subject.

CONCLUSIONS: In this study, we found no evidence that use of hydroxychloroquine, either with or without azithromycin, reduced the risk of mechanical ventilation in patients hospitalized with Covid-19. An association of increased overall mortality was identified in patients treated with hydroxychloroquine alone. These findings highlight the importance of awaiting the results of ongoing prospective, randomized, controlled studies before widespread adoption of these drugs.

Dramatic moment All-American lacrosse star, 26, walks out of hospital after his mother fought for him to be given experimental drug Remdesivir to pull him out of coronavirus coma
  • Jack Allard has been discharged from the University of Pennsylvania hospital
  • He'd been in an induced coma and was on a ventilator after catching Covid-19
  • His mom fought for him to take part in the experimental remdesivir drug trial
  • Footage shows Allard walking out of the hospital as staff wearing PPE cheer on

Hey, hey, Donald J.,
How many geezers did you kill today?

This study was if this drug reduces the need for ventilators. It also states this:

“These findings highlight the importance of awaiting the results of ongoing prospective, randomized, controlled studies before widespread adoption of these drugs.”

I’m completely supportive of getting those results.

According to the VA patients who took hydroxychloroquine,

Those who took it = 27.8% death rate.

Those who didn't = 11.4% death rate.
