WOW you keep bring back Torts yet this current team is not lighting up the score board now is it.....

This whole thread has gone comical thanks to dan. I was maybe the loudest voice in here saying we cannot afford to go crazy for Hank. I wanted the hit to be around 8 mill or so, and that is pretty much where we ended up. The raise Hank gets is 1.6 mill or so, which is nothing crazy with the cap going back up next season, and pretty much will go up every season Hank is signed for.

Now will will pay for years 6 & 7 when Hank isn't at top level form still, very possible, but that is how sports work when guys get to UFA stage. Hank will give us 5 more years of top level play at worst barring injury IMO. Now we can focus on everywhere else, because we are set in goal for many years.

The issue will NOT be Hank's contract, the issue will be will useless Sather get out of his lazyboy chair and make moves to complete this team, and enable us to be a real serious cup contender. THAT is the issue/question, not Hank's deal.

Hank's contract will be a very good deal moving forward. When other top goalies come up to UFA status, they will be 7 mill + or 8 mill per season also. This contract, a 1.6 mill or so raise, will not be an issue for 5 years or so if it ever becomes an issue at all.

Yes they are really kicking ass since getting rid of Torts. He was so mean and made the players play hard.

You're really dumb when it comes to hockey. You just make it up and believed it. The Rangers don't make the playoffs without Torts. And when they didn't win he took the fall.

If you are going to comment on the Rangers you should follow the team closer. Most of us appreciate what Torts did here, he brought accountability and hard work. But pretty much everyone outside of Al knew it was time to go. His style has a shelf life and last year he threw players under the buss unnecessarily (Hagelin stinks on the power play) and lost the locker room.

Yea, he sure is leading Vancouver to unseen heights, right?

He's winning 50% of the game so far this season, lowest W% since the '07-08 season, not to mention the offensive juggernaut the 'nucks are this year with a 2.63 GPG, the 2nd lowest also since the '07-08 season, with only last year being lower and that was a lock out year.

And my post was in response to Dani's stupid comment that " if Lundquist cant win with all the shot blocking and defensive collapsing, is he going to win with a looser team strategy that isnt generating any more offense?"...actually, when Torts played a looser strategy b/c we were down in the game, that's when the team played its best. Then when we were tied or leading, he went back to collapsing.

The guy blew here.

there was an article earlier in the year with a quote from one of the Sedins saying "if you're not blocking shots, you're not going to play"...i mean, wtf? how can Torts not be able to differentiate skill vs. gritty players and let each play a style that best suites them?

Totally 31.

Also Vancouvers PP is like 27th after being great for years. Another Torts staple.

It's too early to judge either coach. But if Torts is fired in 2 years because everyone including the Vancouver media hate him nobody here will be surprised.

Correct me if im wrong..but aren't the Sedin's still basically a point a game player?

You are soooo missing the fucking point it is beyond smacking my head against the wall....

TORTS REALIZED HE HAD LIMITED OFFENSIVE ABILITIES IN HIS TEAM...SOMETHING THIS COACH IS ALSO FINDING OUT REAL QUICK. So instead of trying to win games 4-3 which must be sooo fucking wonderful to watch...he said you know what...if we are going to score 2 goals..lets try and not allow the other team to fucking score 3.

btw 35 points would be tied for third in the Eastern Conference...doesn't that say something about the WEST and the teams Vancover is playing?

also..Vancover has 10 ROAD WINS compared to total HOME Games of 13
he is such a terrible coach.

I hope he can emulate what he has done for us in the past for a long time to come because if not that is a hell of a lot of money to hand out. I hope his best goal tending days are still in front of him with this new coach and style, he has had a whole team dropping down and blocking shots for him for the past few years, that is not happening nearly as much with this new system. But without a top goaltender you can't win a cup so can't blame them for locking him up. Its just like a QB in the NFL, very hard to win without one of the top guys at that position being on your team.

Again, the canucks have have scored the lowest goals per game in 5 non-lock out yrs and have lowest % of games won in that same time span. So he took a team that excelled in the reg season and made it mediocre. WHAT A COACH.

Why don't you just ask him out already?

Al, way too early to evaluate EITHER coach but I wouldnt be pimping Torts numbers.....They are MUCH worse than before he got there in every meaningful area. Not even close

Correct me if i'm wrong, but VAN is still in the same conference they were when AV was coaching them, right? So AV leaves, Torts comes in, and they are scoring and winning games at the lowest rates in half a decade. WHAT A COACH.

last few years Vancovers PP%

2013-201414.1%
2012-2013 15.8%
2011-2012 19.8%
2010-2011 24.4%

where is the fucking huge improvement with the Rangers? Hmm? The coach held this team back didn't they...well....Where are we...a 500 team...yippie fucking kay eye...this coach was supposed to change all of that...it was all Torts..if they only let the players play...well...WHAT IF THE FUCKING PLAYERS DONT HAVE THE ABILITY?

a % in isolation means little. Where does it rank vs. peers.

are you serious? % means nothing...WHAT?
Ok..ill play along
2010-2011 1st overall
2011-2012 4th overall
2012-2013 22nd overall...just barely ahead of the rangers....notice something here???
this year...yeah 26th...but again its all on the coach right? he should be compared to 2010-2011 seasons shouldn't he right....

Now..what about the PK...

Vancover 2013-2014 is #1 in the NHL 89. but they don't score on the PK
Vancover 2012-2013...ranked 8th in the NHL at 84%
Vancover 2011-2012 ranked 6th at 86%
Vancover 2010-2011 ranked 3rd at 85.6

side note...Vancover scoring 2.63 goals a game this season.....Rangers 2.21 dam coach holding back our offensive studs I tell you

And top 6 the previous 3 years but that is meaningless ;-)

Those don't count Dis. Please do not include them in the conversation. Only those that fit Al's "point" are relevant.

Thanks.

This thread is beyond saving at this point. All I can say is that under Tortorella Marian freakin Gaborik was going on during intermission and saying that he and the team have to focus on defense and the goals will come. You could see in his face he didn't believe it yet he had to go out there (on the left wing, remember that?) and play some screwed up style that Torts was clinging to harder and harder and wasn't right for the team.

Torts style fit the 2011-12 team with Prust, Feds, Dubi, Anisimov. It didn't fit last year's team with Nash, Hagelin etc. and he refused to adapt. Instead he held tighter and lost the locker room. That's why he isn't here.

Hey Al is one of my favorites here but there is simply nothing he can say that will make me think that Vancouver is better with Torts. You can say the same thing with AV though.

In both cases, its too early to tell.

and that's without counting that last year was a short year where some players skated during the lock out, some didn't, some were ready to play, some weren't. And Kesler also missed more than half the year.

Nash missing 60% of the team's games this year also has had no effect on the team's record. None. It's all AV.

Yes and he really put the clamps on Lecavalier, St Louis, Richards and Boyle with that whole "Safe is Death" thingy. Probably couldnt get them to block shots.

He took what he had with the Rangers (Good Goalie, Decent Defense, Poor Offense) and took that team further than other coach could (Except Jaques LeMaire).

BigDaddyAl is 100% Correct

Seriously dude just stop. You dont know anything about the Rangers. Earlier you compared Rask and his stanley cup to Hank even though Rask never even played in the playoffs that year.

Al happens to love Torts and feels he got shafted. Most of us dont agree but I respect Al's opinions

didn't Gabby score 40 for that same coach?

agreed but yet as a fan base we constantly look back at the Tort years as OMG what a douche that coach held us back.

Al is drunk on love that's clouding his judgement.

That year we went to the ECF's the team's record was 10-10 in the playoffs, and if we even made it as far as we did it's because Henrik was a stud in the playoffs, which is why your previous posts are so clueless. Follow Disturbed's advice and just stop.
