What Biden said was ignorant in the least.

I think what he was getting at was that politically, Hispanic Americans are more separated in their political beliefs than African Americans, as he believes Hispanic people are more diverse in that that Hispanic encompasses in his mind more nations and cultures. (Cubans in Florida are more conservative than Mexicans in California.) Not sure it is a correct assertion.

Yes, most Jamicans are actually of African descent, so they could be considered African Americans, or Jamican American, or just Americans

I think that the opinion in this tweet is wrong, but not completely wrong. I don't think this shows how Democrats really feel about black people, but I think it shows how older white male politicians often think about racial minorities, LGBTQ+ people and women. Biden is very much a product of the era he grew up in, which means he does have some problematic attitudes, blind spots and lack of familiarity in how to think and talk about these issues. That's why he also earlier this year bragged about having been able to "reach across the aisle" to work with segregationists, as if that were a good thing. Bernie Sanders had some of those same problems in 2016--he's still not the best when it comes to those issues, but he did seem to make a concerted effort to fix his thinking since then.

What this shows, as far as I'm concerned, is how important it is for the Democrats to make sure their party is as diverse as possible in terms of the leadership. As long as it's dominated by older (and even younger) white men, there's always going to be this disconnect, where even if the party "cares" about issues regarding identity, it makes crucial missteps and ignorant comments.

Biden wasn't intending to be racist or bigoted, in my opinion, but he ended up saying something profoundly ignorant anyway. The more that younger politicians who are non-white, non-male, non-straight cycle into the party, the better equipped the Democratic party will be in talking about and addressing more marginalized communities.

I have never heard anyone refer to a Jamaican as African. I have only heard of them called Jamaicans. I think you are really stretching it.
 
Trump is openly racist.

Biden is a product of his time (like Minstrel said). He is out of touch and doesn't quite understand how to convey himself on issues of color except in the context of the times he grew up in. Along with him being a gaffe machine and you are bound to get a bad combination of statements from time to time. It's a freaking wonder this guy ever made it in politics this long.
 
People,

There isn't a name for Black Culture, like there is Asian Culture, European Culture, Espanic Culture, Etc.

All of these cultures are comprised of several, to many, countries that all have different internal cultures.

What isn't right is not providing a name like this for Black people and considering all Blacks African, or of African Culture, which is just wrong.

By claiming that Hispanic Culture is vast and African culture is not, Biden is doing one of two things....

Ommiting the balance of Black Culture in his comparison to Hispanic Culture, or claiming all Blacks have the same "African" Culture.

First, he said African Americans. Second, what you just described isn't what you said in the post I responded to as you claimed posters said all Blacks are African. So again, which posters said that all Blacks are African.

I don't think he was trying to say either one. I think he was saying that blacks born and raised in this country have a similar lived experience and that leads to similar types of political priorities. Which is still wrong, but not as wrong as saying all black people have "African culture."

If that were the case then he shouldn't be comparing African Americans to Hispanic Americans. He should compare African Americans to Mexican Americans and Cuban Americans and the such.

To compare a race culture with a country culture doesn't make sense.

And how can he compare Blacks born in this country with Hispanic Culture? Wouldn't he need to compare them with Hispanics born in this country?

I'm not even so much debating how wrong Biden is or what not. At this point I'm debating those in here who think its the same thing to compare African American culture to Hispanic Culture when they are two completely different things.

I quoted your words. I find it funny now you are claiming it was sarcasm. Tell us minions how we are suppose to know that it was meant sarcastic as this is a constant problem with several of your posts.
