Tried to warn everyone last night.blazers thinking big for future.moves make them better now and a big time player next yr if it comes thru

remember something about trades ESP in NBA.... once you hear about them 90% of time they are dead.

Okafor and CP3 are not a good pairing, so do not want both together. Okafor is not a good PnR C, so worthless with Paul.

. Basically you can offer, 2 first rounders, Felton, camby for cp3 and okafor. It actually works cap wise.

You do know that the league was asking for both the #1 from Minny as well as Eric Gordon. 2 #1's, Felton, and Camby do not equal even one of those trading pieces.

But the deal was killed by the clippers though. It wasn't stern that nixed it. This scenario would be the next best offer

Pau and Odom is by far better than the package you are offering.

Seriously, we get two #1s for Wallace and then trade them with minor pieces for CP#?

Chris Paul is a superstar. The NBA doesn't want the Hornets. They want to shed the salary and get picks, so any owner can start fresh. Also, they would probably be in the lotto as well. So if they got two first rounders from us, plus their possible high first rounder, a talent in Felton and all the cap flexibility you can dream of.

We are not getting two lottery picks for Wallace. I am not going to bother continuing this conversation and will just wait to compare what CP3 gets traded for to the poo poo platter you are offering.

Um, where did I say we are giving them two lotto picks? I said two first rounders; which is exactly what we are getting.

Privately, Portland believes Gerald Wallace has evolved into team's "heart and soul" and are hesitant to move him for picks and cap space.

I'll withhold judgment on this. I can see how such a deal could lead to a superior future position...but if the idea is simply "stockpile draft picks and maneuver for cap space while tearing the team down" I'll be concerned that the team will end up as a long-term irrelevant franchise like the Cavaliers, Nuggets and Warriors were for long periods of time.

Not that it can't work. I just don't feel that that plan tends to yield great results.

However, if it's part of a bigger off-season plan, like acquiring Rondo or Paul, I'm definitely on board.

thank god they didnt use this wording for la. then again... its odd they didnt.

yeah, negotiating the price upwards! Thanks, wojo!

Cp3 to portland is nonsense. It ain't gonna happen. Lets move on from discussing it. Trading wallace for picks is a terrible idea. It could end up being something along the lines of babbit and nolan for wallace. No thanks, id rather keep our former all star.

"Privately, Portland wants to extract as much from this deal as they can, seeing how desperate NJN are to get Howard. They'll say that Wallace is about to be knighted if it gets them some more assets."

How much did we pay wojo to say that? It helps make Wallace even more attractive in trade talks, and it helps us if the trade rumors fall though. Nice

Why is it nonesense? We would be giving NO or Stern exactly what they want, plus the best possible way to sell the team. If not that, we would still have a lot of cap space to try and grab him, D. Wil or a group of very talented free agents this summer.

So rather than announcing they have no intention of trading Wallace, they release this "privately"; sounds like posturing to make sure they get the assets back that they want. Although it's hard to believe they are that smart.

This sounds more like the Blazer front office I know and loathe...er love

A negotiating posture, I bet RT @WojYahooNBA: Portland believes Wallace has evolved into Blazer "heart and soul" and hesitant to move him.

I see how this could benefit Portland in the future, and I see how this could be the right move to make if we can combine the assets from trading Wallace for a true superstar.

However, my concerns are:

- I love watching Wallace play and was really looking forward to watching him play for Portland for at least this year.

- The probability of drafting a player in the middle or bottom of the draft that will be better than Wallace is low.

- The probability of getting a superstar to Portland through free agency is low.

You're forgetting a couple of things:

"The probability of drafting a player in the middle or bottom of the draft that will be better for us for the next 4 years at ~5M total salary than potentially 2 years of Crash on the downside of his prime for 19M while blocking Batum from getting heavy minutes" is pretty high.

And "the probability of getting a superstar to Portland IS Low." The "probability of getting a superstar OR TWO to Portland to pair with LMA, Batum, Maybe Oden and 3-4 first round picks (or whatever we can turn those picks into)" is pretty decent.

If they can do this, or have the abillity to get a superstar in return; then maybe the firing of Cho wasn't too bad. This smells so much like Whitsett it's not even funny.

How do you figure, Brian?

I disagree with the bold part. It isn't like Wallace is 40. He's 29.

The rest of your statement has nothing to do with the probability of drafting well. That goes to my other point of the low probability of getting a superstar here with our extra cash.

Because he doesnt want to come here. Dude wants a bigger market. So we trade for him, he opts out at years end and leaves. We are not getting cp3. Felton, camby, two firsts is nowhere near what the clippers were offering

Where is he going to go JFizzle? What "Big Market" team has enough cap space to grab him?

And the Clippers nixed the deal because of the amount NO wanted BTW...
