Great, trade Wallace now for draft picks over the years. maybe in 3-4 years when the Blazers start looking like a playoff team again, they can trade LA (who will start to be on the down side of his carrer) for more future draft picks.
If I'm LA, I'm pissed they trade Wallace for draft picks.
I can guarantee that's more important to LMA than playing with Wallace or the team's final record.
If this trade enables them to sign Jamal Crawford and Carl Landry for some short term help do you really think LMA cares? Something tells me he'd be more pissed if the team goes into the season with no viable backup for him at power forward because that means more wear and tear for him and more opportunities for injury. I can guarantee that's more important to LMA than playing with Wallace or the team's final record.
That's why I think they are hardly done. This totally smells like Brass is making a run for CP3. It may not happen, but it sure looks like it.
I, for one, would like to see this "guarantee" backed up.
I'll be shocked if we get Landry, I think he's waiting for NOH to up their offer, they probably end up doing something like $29+ million over 4 years and max we can do is $21 million. He is happy in NOH, they lost David West and he played well for them in the playoffs. It's his first decently sized contract so he's not taking a 25+% paycut to come to the rainy NW.
There's no evidence of this except that you want it to happen.
this being a strong draft means that the top 10 or so is loaded, feel free to check out some mock drafts, us sitting in the low 20s is, and always will be, a total crapshoot
a) we have our pick
b) we are rumored to get "multiple" picks
c) NJN was already offering 2 1sts to ORL for this
d) ORL is rumored to maybe sending theirs to us for Wallace.
There are 4 picks. If you don't think that one of NJN, ORL, HOU or POR will be in the conference finals, then that's 4 picks in the top 25.
Now that that's solved...how many of the last 4 draft picks were considered the "best draft in the decade?" And I'm pretty sure that in a retooling/rebuilding process we're not going with Eurostashes, so you can drop the faux outrage over Claver. Rush is foolish since he was only picked to complete the trade to Indy for Bayless.
To be honest, your trading and/or drafting skills aren't at issue here. 4 1st rounders, even if immediately traded, are worth well more than an aging used-to-be-allstar SF on the downside of his career. Do I think he's a good player? Yes. Do I want him on the team? Of course. Am I keeping him for some faux sense that he's better than 4 cost-controlled first rounders in the deepest draft in a decade, at one-half the cap cost this summer and the same salary over the next 4 years (of which he'll play the next 18 months)? Hell no.
Chess. Not checkers.

yes, all 30 first round picks will be all stars
But if you have 4 first rounders, you could potentially trade up in the draft no?
OK Chess hat on . . . . need to think about this, given a-d, wouldn't the analysis be 4 picks vs. 1 pick and Wallace. Why are you analyzing it as as 4 first round picks v. Wallace? I understand if you think he is better than 3 cost-controlled first rounders in the deepest draft in a decade, but that is the proper chess analysis right?
Sure. You get the cement bicycle. 3 extra 1sts vs. Wallace.
And yes, it could be an ORL 2nd rounder. Maybe it's for 2 years from now. I'm going by rumored scenarios. But I'm not going to say that Wallace is so important to this team that I wouldn't give him up in a potential walk year for even 2 first rounders this year and a 2nd in 2 years (or whatever).
A--Will he be an All-Star THIS YEAR?
B--What do you expect his value over replacement to be? I think it could almost be negative, if Nic plays well.
C--How many years do you expect him to stay, and at what salary?
D--How long do you think his back is going to hold up?

To make salaries work I wonder if Portland could get Kris Humphries in a sign-and-trade.
something I read in a book this week. I don't know either.![]()
DEAD (MAYBE)
awoj: Orlando has ended trade talks for Dwight Howard, league source tell Y! Sports.
I don't think Wallace is worth a couple draft picks in the 20s. I would rather see Wallace traded in a package this year or next year as an expiring contract to get another seasoned player.
Aldrdige is currently the key piece to the Blazers, and his window is the next 3-5 years, IMO. Draft has been a crap shoot for the Blazer lately. I trust their trading ability over their drafting ability and even with a good 20 something pick, it will take some development years for that player to ge to the point they help Aldrdige take the team to another level.
With PA's money, I like the Cuban style of trying to build a team (aquire as much seasoned talent as possible). If PA sells, then I'm all for stocking up draft picks.
