ENCOURAGE having similar threads being kept in one single thread, not multiple, similar threads like UCT has been doing.

Good idea. I'll work on that. :)

I'm open to all suggestions, but if people want interesting threads on this forum, they should look in the mirror first instead of throwing rocks at others.

WORD!

Xericx starts more topics than anybody. As a topic starter I am only a cheap imitation of him. To have a lively forum people have to take the initiative and start up conversations.

If you piss on the people who are starting the conversations and they stop there will be nothing left to talk about. Hells bells, look at all the conversation there has been just because a few people got their buttons pushed.

I can't really speak of UCT

actually you probably could. you know me pretty well. :) maybe we should do a thread where we switch and i get to be the republican and you get to be the wacko left wing radical..... and you can post the pics.

this is what's good about an open forum like this, people can discuss and hammer things out themselves instead of having others make decisions that piss off everyone.

i appreciate the concern, and we'll try to improve. that's about it. but some random ass threads WILL happen, that's how it goes.

Yes, this is an open forum and we're deliberately not stepping in and making some sort of rule or crack down on individuals here.

I like what I'm seeing that reasonable people can be reasoned with and that the community as a whole can discuss the issue and come to a resolution.

denny you are the shit.

and i guess the only criticism would be that maybe some of the more tasteless threads could be moved to the tasteless thread place. (mature/adult forum or w/e its called) or maybe just bookmark the random thought thread like me, anything goes there, and if people dont like it, they will tell you.

we are not all going to agree on what constitutes good taste, or deserves interest. i have noticed though that there is a forum on this site for pretty much any imaginable post could reasonably reside.

I'm personally not opposed to moving threads or deleting threads or editing posts or whatever you folks as a group decide is best. Make a poll at some point and make your rules. You elected your mods, you can empower them to enforce your own rules.

My only issue is to not find the "New Posts" page dominated by threads that make the whole site look stupid. We're ultimately a sports site, so the more sports threads, the better.

I've got nothing against these two posters, and I'm for keeping the forum more open. Still, I think as a community that there should be reasonable limits that we impose on ourselves. When it comes to racism or, as in some of the things I've seen posted here recently, blatant sexism, then I think we've got to agree that a little self-moderation is good.

Hey... the Palin sex video thread has almost as many views as this one. Maybe no ones posting.... but people are watching. :smiley-bouncy:

your concerns are noted and we'll try to be more in line, at least I will. The Palin up the butt thing was a little out there, I admit that but its just the first thing that came to my mind.

Xercx's/ucatchtrout's threads don't bother me, it's just that they seem more akin to chats between two people that are open to everyone, rather than solid discussion topics. A single "Random Thoughts" thread might suffice for that, where ideas about dementia tests for one candidate or whether a candidate takes it "up teh butt" can be posted, without pushing all other threads down the page.

That prevents anything from being moved or deleted while making the forum as convenient as possible for everyone.

Thoughts?

works for me, had this on another board in the OT forum....it was like a real time chat. kind of like a bunch of people at a bar talking about random shit.

any way to only have sports forum threads come up on the new posts screen? that would be cool too.

Yeah there's really no reason IMO for "guests" to see the forums, threads, and posts that aren't related to sports. If they see them, and then join the site for that reason then what do we have? A bunch of members like Kid Chocolate (jk man :biglaugh:) who come on here and post crap but don't ever visit the sports forums, which is the point of the site. I think that the offtopic forums should only be viewable by registered members, possibly even with a 100 post minimum or something.

bait & switch?

LOL no, and you are using that term incorrectly.

It's not like we are using sports to lure them here and then saying "you can't talk about sports anymore". It would be making sure that people who register realize that this is a sports site, but once they join they realize that there are also off topic boards with other things as well.

We bait them with sports, then switch it up and lure them in with butt secks threads!

Doesn't really bother me that much, although it'd be cool if you guys posted in the regular off-topic section too every now and then. For togetherness!

I didn't read the whole thread but why not delete the unused auto section I wanted and just put another OFF OFF TOPIC area.

I mean, one OT for serious threads. Political threads and serious threads like what would you do if your girlfriend left you.

You know, serious stuff?

Then one more section where you can post stuff like...

What do you see when you look at puffy clouds?
or
What kind of mustard do you like?

It would be like Anything Goes on LS1.com...(car site)

We can facilitate the blazers forum or the whole site by making additional forums - that's not a big deal.

Hiding threads from users does seem bait & switch, and we probably shouldn't have to hide any of the public threads from anyone.

Again, the issue for me is "polluting" the "New Posts" page or "Today's posts" page with a bunch of over the top threads.

BTW, we do look at these threads with the eye toward a poster's overall activity. If these kinds of threads are all that a poster makes, it's hard to make the case he's being honorable, but rather he's bent on being destructive to everyone's enjoyment of the boards. I'm not seeing that as an issue here, but it has been an issue in other cases.

Would anyone be opposed to making a site-wide "be a moron and post here" kind of forum just for the threads people are having issues with? It would mean that none of these would be suitable for the OT forum here and would be moved by a GM without notice.

If it's good with Xericx and ucatchtrout, and nobody else objects, then the Blazers mods (and any others on the site) will be told it's OK to use their judgment to move threads there.

RTT is not the answer. In fact, it really should be pruned of the over the top posts and a new RTT in the "be a moron" forum made from them.
