We can facilitate the blazers forum or the whole site by making additional forums - that's not a big deal.

Hiding threads from users does seem bait & switch, and we probably shouldn't have to hide any of the public threads from anyone.

Again, the issue for me is "polluting" the "New Posts" page or "Today's posts" page with a bunch of over the top threads.

BTW, we do look at these threads with the eye toward a poster's overall activity. If these kinds of threads are all that a poster makes, it's hard to make the case he's being honorable, but rather he's bent on being destructive to everyone's enjoyment of the boards. I'm not seeing that as an issue here, but it has been an issue in other cases.

I think if you made an entire "crazy" Blazer sub-forum it will encourage the pollution of the new posts page. At least with the RTT that is restricted to just one thread. That is the perfect solution really, but Blazer fans insist on staying inside their forum so whatever.

The other solution is this sort of discussion I suppose. A questionable trend of threads is called out by another poster, and a little self-moderation is put into effect. The members that really spam, are the ones who ultimately take the biggest hit to their rep around here anyway.

The RTT thread is a nifty attraction/feature of S2. It's a giant long and old thread that's constantly bumped. The thing I'd like to see us avoid is guests opening it to find "I got drunk and shit myself" discussion for 30 straight posts.

We can exclude one or more forums from the New Posts page, but the fewer the better and ideally just one. It seems like if we want to ask a new poster to go somewhere "acceptable" to make these kinds of posts/threads, that it's easier to point at the one forum.

Doesn't really bother me that much, although it'd be cool if you guys posted in the regular off-topic section too every now and then. For togetherness!
Ummm... what are you talking about? they are posting in the regular off topic section of ripcitytwo.com. Duh!

There is no such thing as negative rep, so someone with 1 rep power essentially has little to lose.

Well I think a Blazers RTT would help some people vent too.

Nice to see that thread start up. : ]

the thing is, i go to this site via www.ripcitytwo.com so i don't really see the other forums. I'll check them out but i like the smaller number of people here.

Yeah it is okay, I didn't mean to rip into your community or anything I just wish Blazer fans could visit the rest of the site more because their input would be interesting.

i'll try, but I post like on 5 or 6 sites already, most of them niche (in addition to my own board I run)

It's not hard to stop on by and post with the cool crowd. Just type in Ripcitytwo.com, and you'll find them.

Is bookmarking the set aside forum too much to ask?

come on, those are the best threads ever.

If we do this, then you and those who agree they're the "best threads ever" can enjoy them together.

i post from multiple computers....maybe 3 or 4 of them i have tried making a bookmarks page online on my personal message board, it works with varying results.

Try the Foxmarks addon for firefox yet?

I don't use extensions on firefox. also, i post on other people's computers....hence the problem when you're not exactly tied down to one location, I'd hate for them to find out my online identity!

There is an easy solution that works across computers.

While viewing the forum listing for Blazers (and then Blazers OT), select "subscribe to forum" from the "Forum Tools" menu above all the threads.

Then go to User CP and you'll see them there. You can subscribe to this new proposed forum the same way. The site's plenty fast and it'd take you 3 seconds to get to that forum.

I'll set those up....but then again, like I mentioned, I post regularly on like 5 or 6 forums already. i'll check them out sometime.

RTT is not the answer. In fact, it really should be pruned of the over the top posts and a new RTT in the "be a moron" forum made from them.

Great idea! Let's piss off the veteran S2 posters, and go out of our way to meet the needs of all the new Blazers posters!

hah its like going in circles. already we got mods etc suggesting we should start using the other forums more for X topics...... remind you of anywhere? oh yeah, BBF!

here's the nutshell of this blazer community that recently moved here.... id say 85% of us dont really care what happens outside of the blazer board and/or what other things we can/cant do on X site. we're here to talk with blazer fans and get blazer fan opinion on a range of topics - its mega introverted and sectional but that just seems to be how we are :)

i guess we could/should leave the OT forum off the recent topics list if some of the topics and content isn't in the right vibe

lol, S2 from what I've heard S2 isn't as bad as BBF yet.

I don't see what is wrong with RipCityTwo people chilling with people from their own community, and nothing would stop S2ers from joining any threads that they are interested in.

Would anyone be opposed to making a site-wide "be a moron and post here" kind of forum just for the threads people are having issues with? It would mean that none of these would be suitable for the OT forum here and would be moved by a GM without notice.

If it's good with Xericx and ucatchtrout, and nobody else objects, then the Blazers mods (and any others on the site) will be told it's OK to use their judgment to move threads there.

oh for fucks sake this is getting ridiculous. why don't we each create our own set of rules and our own forum? too many forums, too many rules, too many anal retentive people who think they should control everyone. this is getting out of hand. one free speech zone is enough. never have i seen so many control freaks with their panties in a bind all in one place.

having said that, denny you are a reasonable fellow and somebody has to manage this mess. whatever you decide is will go along with. :)

well yeah, there is nothing wrong with it at all :) its just thats where some of the friction there started re political threads in the old OT forum as the board had a dedicated political forum where the admins tried to push us into for those topics. im not saying S2 is anything like BBF overall, but that made me laugh and sigh at the same time ;)

easy solution, let 'em post whatever they want here and just remove this forum from the recent topics list - isolation.....desolation!

I think additional subforums would confuse the average poster to be honest. who knwos what to do.

This is a constructive idea. Is it a good thing for the 100+ awesome OT threads to be excluded from the recent topics list because of 5 threads about "Does Palin take it up the butt?"

We're not trying to push any or all of the blazers posters out of the blazers forum. We're looking as a group to figure out a solution that satisfies everyone. See post #1 - that's not a complaint/request/suggestion by anyone in a position of authority as S2 staff.

Well, let's try things out with the Random Thoughts thread as an outlet for sudden impulses. Maybe things are already solved.

look at this forum, which i also post on. there is a "dumb threads" sub-forum which is used at the mods discretion.

http://www.styleforum.net/

actual forum: http://www.styleforum.net/forumdisplay.php?f=18

that might be an option. mods discretion. I don't mind it as long as its here, the thing I hate most are locked threads since you can't really respond to anything...sure, if there's a bunch of porn and crap like that, lock away...but dumb threads can be moved at a mod's discretion IMO...hurts no one really.

well in context of how the blazer community operates within an OT environment and the freedoms they have moved here to enjoy i would think some of the content in there would be a little 'looser' than dedicated to amazing topics of great debate :P what i do think though, is that it is a better look for our main forum and the site on a whole to show BLAZER topics as representation of our forum as opposed to ANY OT topic.

end of the day, we want more Blazer fans here and we're gonna get em with Blazer BBall topics, not tangent threads of randomness.

Is that the forum you run?
