No he wasn't. Whiteside was. Unfortunately, we were his second choice.

Not sure how true it is, but it has been mentioned that once Neil saw Parson's medical records, he told him to take the MEM offer.

Sure, but if we don't start working on it now, we will be fucked. Why wait until the last minute and be strapped with the rest of the GM's knowing this?
I think the point is if we don't work it now, we lose flexibility and will take it in the ass even more if we wait until the last minute.
So saying not to worry now maybe be correct, but to be concerned is absolutely valid.

Just because their contracts are bad now doesn't mean you give away valuable assets (like 1st round picks in a very deep draft) just to dump their salary. As @Shilly said, you don't have to really worry about the repeater tax kicking in until trade deadline 2020. If any of those guys are still here at that point, they are expiring contracts, which would be much easier to move than they are now with three years left on their bloated contracts.

Move them if/when it makes sense, but don't panic and sacrifice anything of value now just to dump their contracts.

The whole reason we kept guys like Moe, Meyers, and AC was to "retain assets." We didn't want to lose them for nothing.

Now we're gonna attach more assets just to get them off our roster? Think this through, guys. It's not gonna happen. It better not happen.

Thats why theres no way we attach assets to those guys. Only one thats plausible is evan turner, and id be OK with attaching 26 to get rid of him. Crabbe on the other hand does have value.

It would defeat the purpose of going through the whole ordeal with Varejao if we just dump #26 to get rid of Turner.

I would not be happy if that happens. His contract sucks, but Neil gave it to him. He made his bed, so he better lie in it without compromising a very valuable (to us) asset in #26.

I'm more content with it though, because he's the one that got that asset for us. But i would understand your frustration as well.

Yep, and the longer we keep these guys, the more tradeable they become. At some point, a boat anchor of a $70 - $75 million 4-year contract becomes a $17 - $18.5 million expiring contract. Somewhere in between those contracts go from having negative trade value to having positive trade value when it comes to matching salaries.

For example, at the 2020 trade deadline, Allen Crabbe only has $7.2 million left on his $75 million contract, but he counts as $18.5 million in incoming salary. So, he could be very desirable (contract wise) to a team looking to dump a player making that much on a longer contract - for example a team looking to blow it up and rebuild.

That's not what I'm saying. I'm saying they need to be thinking about it now, so they aren't left with zero options if/when the time comes.
NO worrying or panic, but it must be a concern.

Didn't NO quietly tell Parsons to take the Minny offer? I think NO's first choice was ET all along.

Kind of like the Bulls when they got Boozer. While all the teams were chasing LeBron, the Bulls quietly negotiated the deal with Boozer and announced it the day LBJ signed with Miami. The Bulls did make an all out offer to get the big 3 in Chicago, of course. For show.

I sensed a similar scenario last summer here. Parsons was considered one of the big prize FAs, regardless of his health.

We haven't had the draft yet and teams haven't begun to deal. NO has shown he knows how to manage the salaries, I expect he's going to do a great job this season as well.
