The video "Liberation of Andriivka: a Ukrainian soldier's first-person view" is very graphic and clearly shows the complete devastation of that area...all of the foliage on what once were trees, has been stripped away.

My hope is, that after Russia eventually throws in the towel, they should be severely sanctioned until they make reparations for what they have done to Ukraine's once beautiful country.
Kliishivka is the same; Only those villages east of Kharkiv were spared as Ukraine took them very quickly and drove the russians out of artillery range. There are scores of villages that are destroyed and abandoned all over eastern Ukraine. My guess about reparations is that russians would rather starve than pay them, they will always find ways to bypass sanctions as long as there are companies who put profit first.

Senator Rand Paul has promised to personally block any spending bill that includes aid to Ukraine.
Republicans are fucking cowards. Instead of saying outright they prefer Putin to democratic Ukraine, they pretend fiscal responsibility or abortion. They hate democracy in Ukraine or US. They can't put their positions to a vote, they would lose, so they have to restrict voting by citizens and prevent votes in elected legislatures

The majority of Americans are against hemorrhaging more unaccounted for money to the most corrupted government in Europe. Making vague platitudes about “they hate democracy” just harkens back to Bush era neocons trying to manufacture consent for the Iraq war. It’s a really silly and oversimplified justification for attacking those opposed to war.

A majority of American's? or a majority of Trump supporters? Please show proof to back of this claim, I bet you can't.

Has anyone figured out the flaw in my reasoning yet? I just noticed that the source for Forbes numbers is Ukraine! You guys are probably too polite to have pointed this out! I tried to read the entire article to get some insight but it's in Ukrainian language which I had to use Google translate to read. If I understood it correctly, the payment to families of dead soldiers is now $110.000, not 68. 000 supposedly because of the weakening of the ruble, which doesn't make sense. If they pay a fixed amount of rubles to each family, as the ruble weakens against the dollar, the dollar amount would be smaller, not larger. And the article gave the impression of being a propaganda piece, not serious journalism. So I think I now go back to being a doubter. I still think that Ukraine is killing three times as many russians as they are losing them selves, but I think their calculations of russian personnel losses are exaggerated, just guessing by maybe a quarter.) Although, early in the war some people actually bought data from russia on the amount paid to surviving families and that data closely reflected Ukrainian figures, so I just really don't know. And it's possible that Ukraine, who seem to have contacts within the russian government, has those figures also. I DO believe the figures on equipment losses as those are closely traced by individuals who require visual confirmation.
BTW, using the $110,000 figure, it would imply about 227,000 dead whereas Ukraine is claiming about 271, 000. That would seem to make some sense.
Some stuff I have read since then ( accounting of death certificates from a russian source_ seems to confirm that the 271,000 figure that Ukraine claims is fairly accurate.

to be clear, these are per cents of those who died, not percent of all soldiers mobilized.

He makes a lot of unsupported claims in just one sentence: that money is "hemorrhaging", that money is "unaccounted for" , that Ukraine is the most corrupt nation in Europe.

I didn't know Rand Paul was a Republican...I thought he ran on the Libertarian ticket.

Most Republicans want scaled-back Ukraine support, but overall public favors some actions, polls show

Most Republicans would like to see the United States scale back its support of Ukraine in that country's war effort against Russia, multiple surveys this fall suggest, although much of the public overall continues to favor actions such as sanctions against Russia and help with Ukrainian intelligence gathering.

A CBS News poll earlier in September found that 36% of US adults said the Biden administration should be doing less to help Ukraine in its conflict with Russia, with 38% saying the White House was handling things about right, and 26% that it should be doing more.

Most Republicans, 56%, say the Biden administration should be doing less in Ukraine, a view shared by 41% of independents and 15% of Democrats.

Republican opposition to Ukraine aid has grown over the course of this year, CBS finds. While 73% of Republicans currently favor continuing sanctions, they're split on sending aid and supplies — 50% favor this, down from 57% in February. Just 39% support sending weapons, which is down from 49% in February. By contrast, solid majorities of Democrats continue to back all three of these proposals.

In a Fox News poll released last weekend, registered voters gave negative marks for the US response to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, with 43% approving and 54% disapproving. That's down from May when views were about evenly split with 47% who said they approved and 48% who said they disapproved.

A CNN poll released earlier this summer also charted growing Republican opposition to aid in Ukraine and found 55% of the full public opposed to Congress authorizing more funding to support Ukraine, rising to 71% among Republicans.

A majority of the public overall did favor some specific forms of aid, such as help with intelligence gathering (63% support) and military training (53% support).

He's a Republican. Claims to be libertarian but opposes women's rights, marriage equality, trans health care. In other words, liberties for rich straight white men.

Russian state media crowing about McCarthy not allowing President Zelensky to speak before joint session of Congress. They are also playing and replaying clips from other pro Russia Republicans.

Look closely, you will see the russian fleet HQ is already hit and then another missile comes in. Unsubstantiated report that the fleet commander is killed. I walked past this HQ many times on excursions to Sevastopol and the russian flag on top always made me uneasy.

"I want to say to them "Run away. Run away from there." But they can't even run away, because they are told they will arrive home dead if they flee," - relatives of the mobilized men from Chelyabinsk region demand to return their men home. An appeal of relatives of mobilized men from the Chelyabinsk village of Sakkulovo (85th brigade of so-called "LPR", military unit 78064) to the head of the investigative Committee Bastrykin appeared on the Internet. According to their words, the men were never given a vacation for a year, despite promises. "They write reports for vacation, submit them, but they [the command] just tear them up. Or they say, "If you want to live, then don't bother us," said one of the women. Another commander put it this way: "Until half of you lie dead here, we won't let you go." "We are not the first to write appeals to the military commandant's office, to the unit. Someone managed to get in touch with this unit, and the answer was: If we receive even one more appeal from you, then your guys will arrive home dead," - relatives of the military said.

Russian Officers Sold Black Sea Fleet Intel to Ukrainian Fighters: Report
  • Russian officers reportedly leaked sensitive intel on the Black Sea Fleet to Ukrainian partisans.
  • A resistance group told the Kyiv Post that the officers hadn't received salary payments from Moscow.
  • Ukrainian later targeted the Black Sea Fleet's headquarters in a huge missile strike last week.

After missing their anticipated salary payments, Russian officers decided to leak sensitive information about Moscow's Black Sea Fleet to a Ukrainian partisan movement. The intelligence later paved the way for a devastating missile strike on the fleet's headquarters in the occupied Crimean peninsula, Ukrainian media reported.

If that happened, great, but did Ukraine really need a leak to point a missile at Fleet HQ? Seems like they should have already known where the building was.

Unlike the Ruskies, I don't imagine they want to make a mistake and hit a school or hospital. Hard to say what intel was needed and used. It could have been, "attack at XX:XX pm because that is when the commander eats his borscht in a specific room that is easy to target" or something.

I think the intel would be more about the "when" than the "where" in this case.

If you're against the US providing more assistance to Ukraine you might find this interesting.

What a succinct and accurate putdown by this russian dissident. Probably speaking about Stalin but she was still alive until 2014 so who knows? Actually, looking more closely, she has to be talking about Putin. She recognizes a long time ago how dangerous he is. Could it also describe any modern want-to-be dictator?

I am assuming that this guy pulled his own shirt off in court. What's amazing is that russia allowed photographs. Clearly a state that just doesn't give a shit what world thinks of them.
@DefenceU

He is not a prisoner of a Nazi concentration camp. This is a show trial of tortured captive defenders of Mariupol taking place in russia right now. What will it take for “Never Again” to truly mean Never?

I think Putin wants people to see this. As a deterrent. What happens to those who oppose him.

I guess Putin hates the Azov survivors so much because their sacrifices and suffering prevented him from taking a lot more territory. They held out at Mariupol for long enough so that Ukraine could recruit and train and arm a lot more soldiers. Not only did many of them die there at the steel plant but i believe every one of them was tortured after being captured. Then the russians blew up a penal barracks that many of them were held in and killed another 50. Their leaders were fortunate enough to be part of a deal that put them in Turkey for a year and then were released back to Ukraine. The top leader has rebuilt the Azov corps and is back at the front with them.
