I don't know...can I tell if my job was "saved or created"?

When the health care insurance employees lose their jobs (6-10 million), I wonder what effect that will have on this figure.

It's Bush's fault.

Well, actually, it is. If you want to tack on a percentage point since Obama has been in office, fine. But from my hazy memory, I don't recall the unemployment rate being zero last December. Perhaps you have a link?

Well this isn't good news.

I also am constantly hearing the economy is stablizing and slowly recovering . . . so are things getting better or worse? :sigh:

See? I just knew it was.

BTW, it's raining. That's Bush's fault also.

If there's any massive job loss that would actually bring me joy, this would be it.

I've never dealt with a health insurance company employee that I wouldn't prefer to see fired.

My wife works for Kaiser. I'd like to see you lose your job. What service to you provide for people? How do you help others?

Sorry to offend. But I'm not exactly alone in my contempt for health insurance companies.

If anything, this will result in more jobs in insurance. More people covered, more regulations = more employees needed.

So what you're stating is that none of the unemployment is Bush's fault?

Perhaps you can clarify? I said you could tack on some additional since Obama has been around but I really don't see how you could logically blame all of the unemployment on Obama.

I think unemployment was a little over 6% when Bush left office.

Hey, I don't like some insurance companies (not all, but some) but I'd never wish a person to lose their job. Trying to struggle to make ends meet for weeks or months or years is absolutely no fun at all.

Unemployment was 8.5% when Bush left office.

When Bush took office, it was 4.7%.

However, I don't think Bush had anything to do with a few of those percentage points that it rose. The economy was going to come back to Earth as that was right at the beginning-middle of the dot com crash. That had more to do with banks investing wildly in speculative ventures. Thank goodness they've learned their lesson.

Obviously, I feel bad for people's personal lives when they lose a job. But I certainly wouldn't say that "I'd never wish a person to lose their job." Some jobs shouldn't exist. Some people don't belong in certain jobs. Some companies have such a crappy culture that fosters lousy behavior that the only way to clean it up is for lots and lots of employees in that company to lose their job. It's simple accountability.

America's ability to fire and hire people much more easily than many other industrialized countries has always been a big competitive advantage.

I'd feel bad for PapaG's wife personally if she lost her job. But I might not regret that her job no longer exists.

Yes you did.

The thought that all employees of health care companies are unfit to be employed make me see you in a completely different light. I'll pass along your love to people who's lives were saved when health carriers went above and beyond- which happens a hell of a lot more than you'd ever care to admit.

Healthcare workers are the latest scapegoats.

Again, what services do you provide your people in need? I'm also fairly certain you don't know how Kaiser operates, but I'll leave you alone in your ignorance.

Actually, it was 7.6% at the end of Janurary 2009.

papg, just as you are dissatisfied with Obama and would like to see him and his adminstration out of office . . . can you not understand that some Americans get very frustrated with Kaiser and wish poorly upon the organization.

No reflection on your wife, but on Kaiser itsef.

What exactly has Kaiser done to deserve such derision? It's a non-profit HMO that was created for ship-building union workers in the Bay Area. They have helped literally millions of uninsured patients, and are one of the few HMOs that accepts OHP at a huge loss.

Specifically, what is your beef with Kaiser?

I really don't know where to start. From the doctors to the bureaucracy to the terrible customer service.

Again, I'm not saying anything about your wife, jsut the organization . . . and I know I'm not the only one who has bad feelings about Kaiser.

My mom works for Kaiser too. Its not really an insurance company, but more of a healthcare provider. Compared to other large healthcare companies, its actually not bad. I've had Kaiser healthcare growing up, seemed pretty efficient to me. Pretty easy to make an appointment...I had a pretty serious medical condition in Jr. High and they took care of it rather well...no complaints from me.

Kaiser is considered the fast-food equivalent of the healthcare industry in California. There's a couple of newer facilities that are excellent, but majority of the facilities are mis-managed and have terrible customer service.

Never had a problem in Oregon. The clinics were all pretty fast, minimal wait. California seems ok too, I had a relative who was in a hospital here and it wasn't that bad.

Seemed a lot better than the local hospitals or private doctor clinics...alot better than my current insurance-provided doctors...that's for sure. (I have HealthNet PPO)

They have been doing layoffs in Kaiser recently though. So I guess mook got his wish?
