UNLV's defensive players were clearly better than the Beavers defensive players. For the second game in a row, some of those guys looked like they couldn't tackle my grandma. That is, if they could make the right read or could execute a proper pursuit angle. That said, and I have rarely ever said this, I blame the coach for that loss. His most egregious mistake, that I couldn't believe was happening, even while it was happening, was going for it on 4th and (17?) from their own 22 yard line, instead of punting, with 5 minutes to play, when the game was still winnable. One play later, UNLV touchdown. The decision was terrible strategy on it's face, but holy showing the entire world he has zero trust in his defense, Batman! And to top it off, the Beavers subsequently showed that they would in fact have been in position to possibly tie the game with a two point conversion had they not given up that touchdown (they did stop UNLV's next drive). I don't know if he lost the trust of his players with that move, but he definitely lost mine. I hate to say it, but Jonathan Smith would have easily won that football game.
