"unmitigated disaster if we make the playoffs"

Welcome to our community

Be a part of something great, join today!

My standard approach to social media is to stick to talking about basketball and leave each other in peace

I'll add this....my wife won't forget anything ever...she will remember the day I lost my car keys in the rocks at the beach in Florence 15 years ago like it was yesterday...

I couldn't really recommend to my grandchildren that it's a fun place to hang during games, that's for sure and in some ways I think the community here is extrememly isolated from certain demographics and age brackets

But we draw very well in the grumpy old white man demographic. Don't believe me, just ask OldManGrouch! I was neither grumpy, nor old, when I started posting online. I go all the way back to the late 1980s on the old usenet rec.basketball forum.

Hey, I'm trying to quit smoking - what's *your* excuse?

Now get off my lawn! :curse:

If someone leaves for whatever reason, I respect their choice....I have no problem with the guy even though we have different slants on the team more often than not. My issue has always been exclusive to game threads...other threads I can just ignore if they don't interest me but game threads are places I just can't enjoy if it's gloom and doom from tipoff...and I imagine the casual Blazer fan that clicks on the site would be turned away from a game chat filled with angst. I love the way Sly deals with the community here and thing he's well suited to his role. If game threads were designated cheering sections, it'd help me but that's just me..a lot of posters enjoy the critique during game threads..I get that. I'm the same. You don't really seem in those threads either because of that. But it doesn't end my good times here. :)

If people are coming into a game thread where instantaneous reactions of a game are always going to be pure happiness, then that's just setting up to fail. Logically, there's never going to be an "all happy" thread... basketball is a game of swings. Hell, any sport is a game of swings... if you are expecting a game thread to be "all happy" or all "doom and gloom" then that's not living in logic.

You're asking for something that, as human beings, is not possible. We're not robots.

nah...I'm not asking for anything..I understand..and enjoying a game doesn't always mean happy...not sure where you get that but doom and gloom from tipoff to buzzer is a different story if you're a fan...like I said..imagine being at a game sitting next to somebody bitching throughout the game...after awhile you just have to move. Post game I could care less..just during games it's a buzzkill for me

The point is to win a title, and in order to do that it is in the best interest of that goal you need to acquire the highest level of talent possible. Realistically we are fighting for the 5 seed because the Grizzlies lost their 2 best players and are in a free fall. Back to acquiring talent. We know the history of Free Agency and Portland, it's as ugly as a $5 porno from the Quikie Mart This season our best chance to add high caliber talent was to be bad but that didn't happen. I'm not going to complain about the success we are having this year though I think we are 2 years ahead of the timeline NO had in mind when he started the rebuild... The Question now is how do we add pieces? It's possible that the NBA has moved along farther than the old adage of Big Markets being the prize for Free Agents but until we actually sign a big name FA we should not hang our hat on it. That could be plan 1A with a 1B that is more realistic.

It seems more complicated than that though. Certainly a draft pick is tangible value. But, a surprise team that overachieves, with a player-friendly coach, could be attractive to certain free agents. Also, I would argue that a team of 10-rotation players who don't make the playoffs plus an end of the season mid-lottery pick has less value and less "talent" than a 10-rotation player group who competed hard, made their way to the playoffs and got playoff experience, without the extra lottery pick.

Portland may have enough talent right now on the roster. Harkless, Aminu, Vonleh, and CJ are likely not even close to what they will be in a couple more years. Meyers may be in that group too if he doesn't over-value himself.

Although I get where you're coming from, that's just the nature of game threads in general.

You should see game threads for other teams. They make us look like Christian school boys.

Doesn't really matter. Someone else called him out because THEY thought he was wrong. We're all entitled to our opinions, right and wrong. I'm a big fan of healthy debate. Not a big fan of call out threads that use a poster's own words to mock him in the thread title.

MM did it to Eric, now Eric has done it to Nik. The circle of mock is complete. Cue Elton John...

BNM

Yeah, I agree with that.

Call out threads are so immature. It's wrong when BGD does it. It's wrong when KS does it. We're all right sometimes. We're all wrong some other times. It's possible to enjoy being right without rubbing someone's face in it when they happen to be wrong.

BNM
Who said Nik was wrong? This isn't a call out thread. It was an honest question. I assume Nik still feels the same way?

I didn't mock him. He said it would be a disaster if we made the playoffs. I assume he still feels the same way. He hasn't been proven wrong because his thoughts are still valid. What do you guys think?

Judicious use of the search function? I have no idea. I remember most of what I say and that's enough to keep my brain occupied. I do remember defending Eric when MM targeted him with a mocking, call out thread. That's why I was disappointed to see Eric do the same to Nik.

BNM
How did I mock Nik? I didn't call him out for saying we wouldn't make the playoffs.

lol. You missed my entire point. I really don't want to have to spell it out again.

It's gonna be a god damn Michael Bay film!
