jiprk and PapaG,

Good morning gentlemen. Both of you are dipping your toes into lake personal insult. Please stop.

Being called a chickenhawk is a direct personal insult. Please point out where I made a direct personal attack.

Yes it is. That's why I asked both of you to please stop.

And thank you for removing your personal insult directed at him.

Thank you for not removing his personal insult directed at me. I'd like it to stand, just as all of the other personal insults directed at me in the last week by other posters such as cmeese47.

I think I already removed most of his insults earlier today.

No wonder you've never had the balls to meet any posters over the years.

Poppycock. jlprk met up with me to attend a Blazers game and beers afterwards at Produce Row a few years ago.

Maybe if you asked him nicely. :dunno:

That must have been a scene...

jlprk's smearing of those who died looking for Bergdahl is falling apart. Good thing his hero President Chickenhawk ran off to Poland today. Get out of town while this country sees what a bonehead he is.

Special forces found Bergdahl and captors but wouldn’t risk rescue for ‘deserter’

The Pentagon on several occasions had ground-level intelligence on where ArmySgt. Bowe Bergdahl was being held captive at various times — down to how many gunmen were guarding him — but special operations commanders repeatedly shelved rescue missions because they didn’t want to risk casualties for a man they believed to be a “deserter,” sources familiar with the mission plans said.

Commanders on the ground debated whether to pull the trigger on a rescue several times in recent years, according to one of the sources, a former high-level intelligence official in Afghanistan, who said the conclusion each time was that the prospect of losing highly trained troops was too high a price to pay for rescuing a soldier who walked away from his unit before being captured by the enemy.

A second source told The Washington Times that the rescue operation plans were “high risk” and became even less attractive in recent months when officials in the Pentagon’s Joint Special Operations Command grew convinced that the Taliban and the militant Haqqani network, whose operatives were holding Sgt. Bergdahl, were eager to cut a deal for his release.

“Joint Special Operations Command always had the rescue mission on the table and it was entirely under their ownership, but the big question centered on whether Bergdahl was somebody you risk lives for when you still have time and space to maneuver diplomatically,” said the source, a high-level congressional aide, who, like the former intelligence official, spoke only on the condition of anonymity.
The aide also said there was frustration among some on Capitol Hill that the Obama administration had botched an opportunity to exert leverage over the Taliban, particularly since the U.S. military could have used force to secure Sgt. Bergdahl’s release.
“The prisoner swap was being built up as the only option that was available. But there’s been knowledge of the general vicinity of where Bergdahl was, down to how many guys were guarding him,” said the aide.

The catch, the aide added, is that special operations commanders and others at the Pentagon never sought approval for the rescue mission from the White House because they believed in the pursuit of a diplomatic deal.

The aide said military officials in Afghanistan spent recent months pushing for a stronger deal than was ultimately struck, but were “superseded” by the White House and State Department. The aide would not comment on what the parameters of a “stronger” deal may have looked like, beyond saying they would have involved the Pakistani government.
The former intelligence official who spoke with The Times corroborated that assertion but declined to offer further details, saying only that the deal turned out the way it did because “the administration wanted to close the door on this no matter what the price was.”

Separately, the former official said, “Military commanders were loath to risk their people to save this guy. They were loath to pick him up and because of that hesitancy, we wind up trading five Taliban guys for him.

“The mentality was, ‘We’re not going to lose more of our own guys on this,” the former official said.

Both of the sources said military officials across the special operations community were appalled by the terms of the deal that ultimately got struck over the weekend between State Department-led negotiators and the Taliban, effectively securing Sgt. Bergdahl’s release from Haqqani network custody in exchange for the release of five former Taliban commanders from Guantanamo Bay, Cuba.

U.S. Special Operations Command declined to comment on the revelations provided to The Times.

But The Associated Press reported that after weeks of intensive searching for Sgt. Bergdahl in 2009 the military decided against making an extraordinary effort to rescue him, especially after it became clear that he initially was being held in Pakistan under the supervision of the Haqqani network, a Taliban ally with links to Pakistan’s intelligence service.

Attack on Bergdahl's former position two days after he deserted. Coincidence?

I wonder if President Chickenhawk will stand next to Bergdahl's parents while their son is being executed for treason? Meanwhile, 5 senior Taliban leaders are yukking it up in Qatar.

I'm sorry, who is "the left who is feting this guy as a hero"?

This is, last time I checked, this is the United States and this man is a United States citizen, entitled to presumption of innocence.
It is highly likely he's being debriefed. There may be good reason to suspect him of misconduct, in which case he should undergo court-martial. A trial is how, last time I checked, the Unites States is supposed to deal with alleged misconduct, whether in civilian or military law. Not leaving a member of the U.S. Armed Forces to rot in Taliban jail forever. Funny how sad the superpatriots are over the release of an American POW.

He was never classified as a POW. Also, it's the military members he served with that are upset about releasing 5 Taliban members for a guy they feel is a deserter.

So, go ahead and call those he served with "superpatriots" in your facetious manner. They are much better people than you or me, and that so many of them are speaking out tells me something is very wrong.

Also, if he isn't being feted as a hero, why were his parents involved in a Rose Garden ceremony?

It sounds like he should stand trial for desertion. Until that point, it is unfortunate that men died looking for him. We can't know why the administration released 5 detainees for him, but it does look bad.

Bergdahl renounced US citizenship in letter to his fellow troops prior to deserting them? If true, he's not even an American, and should be treated as an enemy combatant. I do like how we have to read these things in foreign papers. I may actually watch the nightly news tonight to see if the media lemmings share this information.

Throw his treasonous ass in Gitmo.

He's an American citizen, and is entitled to due process.

I believe that incarceration at Gitmo should be on the table should he be found guilty of desertion, if only so his father has something else to bitch about on twitter...

From what I have heard his father say, good ole dad ought to join him in Gitmo.

Why? It doesn't bother me. If it did, I'd be PMing you.

Because people will say I'm being being fair if I leave some insults and remove others.

No personal insults means no personal insults.

Hagel called to testify on prisoner swap

House Armed Services Committee Chairman Buck McKeon (R-Calif.) has asked Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel to testify on the controversial prisoner trade that freed Army Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl.

"I am particularly troubled by the release of five senior Taliban leaders, men with the blood of many on their hands, and the implications for our deployed forces,” McKeon said in a statement Tuesday. “I am no less concerned that the Obama Administration broke a national security law, passed with bipartisan support and signed by the President, in transferring these detainees.

"I am eager to receive answers on both counts,” he added, inviting Hagel to appear before the panel on June 11.
House Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) on Tuesday endorsed the idea of a congressional investigation into the prisoner swap.

“The administration has invited serious questions into how this exchange went down and the calculations the White House and relevant agencies made in moving forward without consulting Congress,” Boehner said in a statement.

The swap has been criticized by some members of Congress, who say the decision to transfer five detainees from Guantanamo Bay in exchange for Bergdahl's release was a negotiation with terrorists.

Just as expected, Obama is much more aggressive his second term and I don't think is overly concerned with what people think.

Should have consulted congress, IMO.

Extremely disturbing comments from the highest levels of Army brass. Appears their sense of duty and sworn oaths are not regarded as binding if they don't like a soldier's political views, or if he has a mental breakdown from the pressures of war. No need to rescue you unless it's going to be a cakewalk. Wouldn't want to get our uniforms dirty.

The Marines, on the other hand, mean every word when they say No Man Left Behind.

Good stuff to know if you're enlisting.

The AP is now smearing the soldiers who dare to speak against Bergdahl as GOP puppets. I wonder if they even knew who "co-owner Richard Grenell" was prior to receiving the talking points from Jay Carney?

Panic mode. How long will Obama stay in Poland? The military isn't going to allow Obama and his media to smear them for a deserter, no matter if even the Koch brothers paid for getting these soldiers in front of the cameras. The liberal CHICKENHAWKS are shaking in their pajamas over this 'fuck you' to the military.

http://www.bigstory.ap.org/article/bergdahls-unit-comrades-recount-his-disappearance

Three former members of Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl's platoon spoke to The Associated Press on Tuesday about Bergdahl's disappearance, his freedom and how he should be treated now that he's out. The interviews were facilitated by a public relations firm, Capitol Media Partners, co-owned by Republican strategist Richard Grenell. All three men said Bergdahl should be investigated for desertion. Army Chief of Staff Gen. John McHugh said Tuesday that after Bergdahl has recovered, the Army will "review" the circumstances of his disappearance.

Joshua Cornelison, 25, who was a medic in the platoon:

Cornelison said Bergdahl was unusually reluctant to talk to fellow soldiers about his personal life or his background.

"He was very, very quiet. He kept everything very close to the vest," Cornelison said, speaking from Sacramento, California. "So, after he actually left, the following morning we realized we have Bergdahl's weapon, we have Bergdahl's body armor, we have Bergdahl's sensitive equipment (but) we don't have Bowe Bergdahl." At that point, Cornelison said, it occurred to him that Bergdahl was "that one guy that wanted to disappear, and now he's gotten his wish."

Cornelison, who completed his Army service in 2012, said he believes Bergdahl should be held accountable.

"Bowe Bergdahl needs to be held 100 percent accountable for all of his irresponsibility and all of his actions. He willfully deserted his post and he needs to be held accountable for that," he said.

As expected, Brad Chase, the other owner, has worked on Democratic campaigns, and also has fought to bring back legitimate Americans trapped overseas. He's also written articles for that right-wing site called The Huffington Post.

Our media is a joke.

Bowe Bergdahl was born and raised in America, ENLISTED in the army, performed well enough in Afghanistan to be promoted to Sargent, and endured 5 years of torture and confinement as a prisoner of war.

He's as legitimate as Americans come.
