buying them on the secondary market ain’t bad. You guys buy ones on the secondary market for like $2-4k that might cost $40k to sign up with the actual company. It’s actually a decent investment. I’d never buy direct from the actual companies though.

Don't you still have a bunch of yearly fees?

I'm wary to go out of the country as the US is requiring a 72 hour negative test to get back into the US. If you test positive, you are stuck. I'm guessing they will lift that in a few months as more people are vaccinated and the numbers go down.

I'll probably do some domestic trips this year. Probably Portland, probably Dallas for some wedding prep. I'd like to hit up the Florida Keys if possible too. And if things are better international, I'd consider a quick winter trip to Europe, either London or Germany.

I price flights on Kayak, then book direct with the airlines. Hotels are the same.

Next year, I think I'll be going to the Philippines for a wedding in February, probably gonna roll the Honeymoon into that trip, either there or on the way back, maybe try to stop off somewhere. Dunno, its hard to plan things.

The Riu resorts in Cancun and Playa Del Carmen are offering onsite Covid testing and if you test positive you can stay up to an additional 10 days for free.

I checked with a few places and the deal is legit.

I'd honestly hate staying in a resort for that long. Dunno, just not my kinda thing. Maybe I can look into doing my bachelor party out there somewhere. Too complicated probably.

Kayak sucks now that they got bought out.

They used to show flight option to Cuba via Canada but now they scan your IP addy and won't let you look. Won't even show you flights from Cancun to Cuba.

I know but it does save you if you do test positive. It's just an easy insurance policy. They do the antigen test so with the vaccine you should be fine.

I would think places like Costco's prices are relatively the same, whether or not there are "Deals" or not. I think some of the Travelzoo deals will have better deal. I used to have more bookmarked back in the days, but I think they are legit, they are just brokers for airlines/hotels or resorts. Just have to read the fine print.

When more places open up, I think deals will still pop up then. Places like the Philippines and Thailand that rely on foreign tourist dollars. I notice a lot of Boracay (Philippines) resorts are comping influencers right now to start drumming up hype for their resorts.

I looked online, right now this is $65 a night lol. Planning to go here for sure if we can go to the Philippines in Feb 2022.

I heard Tulum is the fun spot these days.

I once did a university archeology tour. I got my friend's timeshare then called up the company doing university archeology tours and bought the archeology part but not the students staying at hostels part. 10 days of amazing shit. Spent 1 day at Tulum and got to go inside the different ruins, spent 2 days at Chichen Itza and got to go inside the main pyramid and got to climb it at sunrise, sunset, and during the day. Seeing sunrise and sunset from the top of the pyramid is unreal. Then spent 4 days at Coba digging and shifting dirt. Hard work but I loved every minute of it. We actually dug up one of these.

I was 10 years older than everyone but all the college girls would come to our timeshare instead of going back to the hostel.

It was the greatest vacation of my life. I love that shit.

And I guess I have 4 credits now at Ohio State.

Cozumel is really cheap right now because no cruise ships are stopping there but it really puts a crimp in day trips to the mainline to see the different ruins. The ferries are only running when half full, no real set schedule.

I think Cuba would be awesome for that reason..hope it opens up again

It's open if you fly from Cancun. Right now because of Covid there is a 8 day isolation when you get there. If they waive that before May I'll be going to see where my dad was born.

I've heard bad things about the Americans that have gone to Cuba. Missed expectations.

Shit is unorganized, internet is hard to get, accommodations aren't to western standards, the food isn't that good.

Real culture on a tour geared towards American tourists. :NOTMARIS:I think my parents did that on some religious bus tour through mexico.

Foo, you're staying at the Riu palace, its like 80% white trash up in those spots.

Yes, but it's clean and easy to hang beachside and get free drinks.

Looking at one day exploring ruins, one day hanging at the resort, one day ruins, one day beach, one day scuba diving cenotes, one day resort.

Got to pace myself.

Yeah, volume is probably lower anyway, so it should be all good. Look up recent Youtube videos on it.

the two couples I know that went (separately) absolutely loved it and had a blast. Internet connection was the sole complaint from both.

Sounds like my kind of place.

A sleepy little town during my last visit in 2011, Tulum is now a mecca for jet-setting millennials, celebs, hippies, and spiritual types. It is a place where they come to do all the things they can do back home — but without the cost, in better weather, and with more international people around.

It’s become another Bali or Goa: a relatively cheap retreat where most people come to drop in, drop out, stay in their bubble, eat açaí bowls during the day, and party all night long. Here, in expensive beachside boutique hotels, they eat in Miami-style restaurants while listening to the latest EDM music.

They aren’t in Tulum to experience Mexico. They come here for their little bubble.
