Trade Varejo to Portland!

Welcome to our community

The move we now need to make.

Send Varejo/Kaman/Leonard to Phili for Okafor. Id even toss in Hendo to make it happen if that seals the deal.

Is that enough to make it happen?
This is your trade proposal to the 76ers essentially..

We're gonna take $4M a year off our cap space for a likely late 1st Round Pick in 2018? Awful
No. Read above. Less than 2 million. Jesus. People clamor the past month to use our space to get a pick, even just a 2nd rounder. We land a 1st and people still complain. Portland pays Andy a total of 13 million. Little over 3 this year. But because of need to pay salary floor, we actually pay little for a future first. This is a great move by Neil. The ability to stretch his deal over 5 Years Is excellent.

Considering they only have to pay 1/3 of his salary for this year, but the entirety of that salary goes against their salary floor obligations, they actually save 6M this year by trading for him. All in all, he costs the team $3M over the span of 6 years. When considering time value of money, he's basically free.
That's certainly more palatable. I originally thought the price was $9M for a pick in the 20s, and I thought that was crap. Now that 2018 is confirmed, and the price (after savings) has come down, it's a more reasonable trade.
Any confirmation on whether that POR pick to ORL is one we had already traded to CLE? If so, the deal is decent. Meh, but decent.

I think your short selling Leonard and Hendo. Leonard still shows some signs that he can continue to improv. He gives them a young big guy in return and they get his mentor in Kaman, valejo is can play now and Hendo who is in his prime and looking good.

What would it take then if this isnt enough?

and this saves PA money because ALL of AJ's salary applies toward the floor this yr if I read another post correctly

I'd rather not stretch his deal. I highly doubt we need the cap space this summer, but having it stuck on our books for 5 years is a waste. Overall I like the trade just don't see us needing cap space now. Two years from now once CJ, Plumlee extensions kick in, Dame's contract has a few years of increases, we bring in more players we can better use every $ of cap room at that time

I'll just break it down this way.

1) Meyers is okay, but they have Saric overseas

2) the 76ers would get rid of Kaman and Andy faster than I can say "I want the salad bar" at a sizzler.

3) Hendo doesn't fit their future at all

To get Okafor we would need to send picks with someone like Crabbe

If Varejo resigns with another team that salary is subtracted from our cap hit right?

Cap isn't only going up this summer. Next summer it is going up another 18 MIL according to reports. This is less than 2 MIL we are talking about so we still have a cap raise of 16 plus MIL AFTER the big one this summer.

I kinda agree. Just take the hit next year and be done with it. It helps us preserve cap space for the following year, after all the stupid teams spend their stupid money on stupid players who aren't worth it this summer.

Man, your reasoning is sound... but sucks...

@stevekylerNBA: Seems like Orlando and Cavs are sending cash to Portland in Varejão/Frye deal. @EricPincus will need to confirm.

This.

What I'm hearing here is that there's no reason NOT to match any contract offer Meyers receives...:smiley-195517897341

1.96 MIL off our cap space in future years (after this one) is the number I heard.
That's more like it.

No. We'd have to give up 2 future 1sts with that package.

Yeah but the following year it will actually decrease. That will be the years we are trying to contend, not next season.

I am talking about 2 seasons from now. Not next season.

I think I will leave this to the Blazer Bass cap guys. I have no doubt they have weighed every scenario.

I have gone back and forth on that. I would match a pretty decent offer on him. I still wouldn't go to MAX though.
What will his MAX be? I've been against MAX contracts for pretty much everyone except Dame. But I don't actually know what Meyers' MAX is.
