Wow this is shocking; yes we are a long shot but way better than this. I might throw down some money on our team. $50 bet would get a $3250 payoff.

Oklahoma City Thunder 2.5/1
San Antonio Spurs 4.5/1
Houston Rockets 5.5/1
Los Angeles Clippers 6/1
Golden State Warriors 13/1
Memphis Grizzlies 15/1
Denver Nuggets 17/1
Dallas Mavericks 25/1
Los Angeles Lakers 35/1
Minnesota Timberwolves 50/1
New Orleans Pelicans 50/1
Utah Jazz 60/1
Portland Blazers 65/1
Sacramento Kings 75/1
Phoenix Suns 150/1

Keep telling yourself we are better. it will stick one of these years

You think we are 13th?

I think we have the potential to be 13th. Seriously, an injury to Lopez makes us really piss poor, and he has shown to be injury prone. We have zero proven depth up front....literally zero.

What I'd probably do is hope we get to the WCF then bet half as much on the other team to lock in half the winnings. Teams like the 2013 Grizzlies or 2007 Jazz can have a surprise run and somehow make the WCF so I don't think its outside the realm of somewhat being possible. Especially if Olshey makes a midseason trade.

This isn't a ranking of downside potential, its upside potential.

It is an odds maker ranking teams in order to get the most money. They know more than anyone else when it comes to this stuff

I would say 9 of those teams have the potential to be #13. We certainly are one of them. But I also think we have the potential to be #6.

These odds are for the purposes of gambling, not for actually make the best sports prediction of likely outcomes. In other words and as an example, there are a whole lot of purple and piss fans who will bet on the Lakers out of team pride even if the likelihood of Kobe being at full strength on opening night is minimal and Dan Gadzuric does not come close to being the talent of Dwight Howard.

yawn at this thread. This isn't a prediction of team's records, it's a prediction of who will win the west.

The last one happened before you were born, so you are a winner. Congrats

These are odds to win the West, not the title. To lock in an enormous profit I'd only need us to make the WCF as we did in 2000. Its happened 5 times since I was born.

yawn at this thread. This isn't a prediction of team's records, it's a prediction of who will win a championship.

Odds to win the west, not the title. If you don't like this thread then leave. Theres plenty of others out there for you to take part in without spoiling my fun.

Damn! They think the Lakers and god damned Utah will be better than US?!?!

Let me get this straight...
I can say hell damn bitch fuck,
I can make homophobic "jokes,"
I can post pics of naked women,
but...
If I yawn I'm asked to leave. This place is really a hoot sometimes :)

I'm not trying to bring down your day, relax.

Westbrook isn't looking to good. Wonder how that changes those odds!

@ChrisMannixSI: Russell Westbrook has arthroscopic surgery on his right knee, out 4-6 weeks

I take it personally when you insult my thread. That makes it a personal attack. BAN!

Now seriously you can yawn at whatever thread you like.;) I just don't get the point of saying you don't like a thread then posting in it.

Do you see food you dislike, complain about it, and then order it?

I dont agree with it but after #6 no team below realistically has a shot at winning the west so its not something ill worry about

Alright, I'll actually explain. I don't mind putting off work for a few more minutes.

MM is taking the professional naysaying to the extreme limit and using this thread as "evidence" that the blazers suck. I was pointing out that yes, this is a nonpositive statement about the blazers, but it's not even talking about how the team will finish, it's talking about the team's odds to win the west. It is not a nonsequitur, but it is far from "proof." This is one data point. If there were many such data points, then he could forcefully make a "preponderance of the evidence" argument. He's not, he's just needling.

Rather than explain all this, I found it easier to just use the word "yawn."

I like the thread fine, but like the Deveney SportingNews threads that I created, it's just one data point. That's why I'm so interested in the ESPN rankings, it's a poll of 212 members of the media.

So what he is saying is that he made a special trip to the thread so he could personally attack me by saying yawn.

You think we are 13th?

I think Vegas odds makers believe we are 13th. That doesn't make it so, but that's the most unbiased outsider view of this team you're likely to find, because the only thing they care about is setting a line or odds that will make them money.

Another factor to consider is that oddsmakers are also trying to account for a bettors psychology and establish lines so bets will be split fifty percent to a side; so don't take the odds as absolute rankings

Are the above odds for winning the West in the preseason? If so, OKC is screwed.

Houston Rockets 11/2
Golden State Warriors 13/1
Dallas Mavericks 15/1
Memphis Grizzlies 15/1
Denver Nuggets 22/1
Los Angeles Lakers 35/1
New Orleans Pelicans 50/1
Minnesota Timberwolves 50/1
Portland Blazers 65/1
Utah Jazz 90/1
Sacramento Kings 90/1
Phoenix Suns 250/1

If you did that, it would have to happen more frequently than every 65 years since your payoff is less. Of the gambles presented, the Blazers are one of the better values.
