Layman is by far the best prospect. Vonleh is better but still don't see him ever as regular. The rest are scrubs.

Layman is nice. His jumper is money.

Monterro is trash I have no idea why he's on an NBA roster

Layman again with a nice drive and finish. He's not just a spot up shooter!

This is just sad ugly basketball, no system at all.

Pat with a clutch tip in to beat the clock.

Sad day to be a blazer

Whereas Henderson actually DID go, and Vonleh's a scrub. Meanwhile Batum re-signs with the team he was with.

Olshey wanted a number one..... no team was going to give him that. If they really wanted Batum they could always have just waited a year. It was more a trade of convince than anything. You don't get premium talent unless you pay with premium talent in this league. And when your under the gyn they won't give up King's ransom. They'll wait you out. Kind of where OKC is with Westbrook.

None of these guys are going to be Blazers. At least, not for long.
There really is no reason to be upset about summer league. Maybe you could be upset that Vonleh want a bit better and didn't show more on offense. But, it is known to be rat ball. It happens every year. It was cool to see why Neil targeted Layman in the draft. And Vonleh played tough, but I would have liked to see him find his jumper. The rest of the guys? What did you expect? There is always hope that a guy like Montero or Pat can become something, but the odds have always been pretty low in that regard.

You're acting as if he had to trade Batum. He didn't.

In that case there's no need to feel excited about Summer League. And therefore, there's no need to watch it. But seeing as how I have, I think I'm allowed to be pissed at how much worse our players are than so many other players (mostly younger and less experienced) than those on other teams. This is an institutional failure.

Compare with the Spurs. We have a high lottery pick (Vonleh) and we're total shit, but they have a couple of players taken at the very end of the first round and they're always good. If everybody was equally shit, then yes, I wouldn't mind. But we're shittier than most others.

(Could be worse: we could be the Kings.)

Is it that our players are worse, or is it that our summer league coaching staff is worse?

I don't think they put a lot of stock in the process. It seems like the Blazers have specific levels for expecations for all these guys. Which doesn't say much.

And I'm glad the Blazers play a little chaotic and loose. The Spurs are the most anal, overly professional saps in all of sports. I wouldn't be surprised if they judged the amount of fiber in their players' bowel movements.

Jeff Layman reminds me of some other white player.
I think those announcers must have just woken up from a Coma. They seemed to be under the impression that we've been looking for depth at the PG spot.

Layman also has good hands. Deflected quite a few balls defensively and saved some wild passes offensively with his catches. I think with time he'll be a good ball handler as well. I just like how under control he plays. Olshey hit on this one imo.
