What has gotten into you lately, Eric?
Historically I would like to know about Jesus, not just what is written in the Bible.
Here you go My Man, A book about the Everyday Life of Jesus, Written by a non-believer and mathematical genius:

He also happen's to be the director of Basic Instinct, Robocop, and Starship Troopers! Don't let that deter you though, he's a very smart man. I was lucky enough to hear him speak at Powell's when the book came out.

Jesus was The Man, the most special to ever walk this earth, regardless your beliefs.
To me, it boils down to whether or not you believe in the God of the Holy Bible. If you do, then the Bible has all the answers you need to know about Jesus: His foretelling; His birth; His life on Earth; His plan of Salvation; His death; His resurrection; His ascension into Heaven; and His plan of return and ultimate glory.
that's just his interpretation of what is written in the bible. the question was what is there besides the bible.
i think eric is asking for evidence, not a sermon on faith.

the answer is other than the bible (and associated non-canonical writings) there are no known historical references to jesus contemporaneous to his life, and no references at all to him from anyone who claims to have met or seen him.
It's called the Bible. Does he need more? Why do you think they call it faith?
I think some posters are having trouble handling the concept of faith. As I posted earlier, at times I wish I had it, but my mind and belief system is unable to accept things based on faith alone. I certainly don't disparage those of you who have faith, though. It's not my duty to tell people what they should and shouldn't believe in, and I don't judge people who have faith. I tend to view atheists a bit more harshly, simply because they don't realize that they are exercising a faith of their own, and seem very quick to demean and belittle those who practice religious faith.

I demand to see his long form birth certificate!
No it's not actually, it's a dissertation using all the known historical data available.
I demand to see his long form birth certificate!

Plus, you're wrong in your post, because letters do exist outside of the religious realm that reference the man.

That's not a birth certificate, that's his death burka.

If this is the shroud of turin, it was proven to be a fake.
A new study by Italian scientists may not be definitive on its origins, but it does refute the popular notion that it was faked during the Middle Ages.
Experts at Italy’s National Agency for New Technologies, Energy and Sustainable Development have concluded in a report that the famed purported burial cloth of Jesus Christ could not have been faked.
According to the Vatican Insider, a project by La Stampa newspaper that closely follows the Catholic church, the experts’ report says, “The double image (front and back) of a scourged and crucified man, barely visible on the linen cloth of the Shroud of Turin has many physical and chemical characteristics that are so particular that the staining which is identical in all its facets, would be impossible to obtain today in a laboratory … This inability to repeat (and therefore falsify) the image on the Shroud makes it impossible to formulate a reliable hypothesis on how the impression was made.”
The centuries-old shroud contains a faint impression of the front and back of a human body, along with blood, dirt and water stains from age.
Many have long questioned the shroud’s authenticity, and others have suggested that it was faked during medieval times.
my post wasn't wrong. there is nothing contemporaneous outside the bible - only hearsay references to jesus written decades after his death, and well after the cult of early christianity was up and running.
