Re: Washington asked for Rudy in exchange for Jamison
I haven't honestly seen a lot of Haywood to make a determination. But I'm in the camp that this season is essentially a wash, we wait for next year and deal with it then. Its not like Rudy's value in trade is going to go down. Haywood, to me, on the surface doesn't seem like he'll make much of an impact. I'm fine with just letting Pendergraph play at the 5 if catastrophe happens and then dealing with it later. Stockpiling mediocre big-men while giving up young, marketable talent who has shown to play well on a high level (olympics) isn't really "up there" on my checklist.
Ok, no sarcasm, just a serious response.
Rudy is a good, not great, wing player. Not exactly an uncommon commodity. He has a bad back and a questionable attitude. His long term future as a Blazer is debatable.
Haywood is a good, not great, player at a position where the team needs help - not just now, but for the future. Why do you assume this is a half season rental? Odds are, the Blazers will be able to re-sign him to a reasonable deal. The next time Oden/Pryz break a hip playing Wii, we will have somebody younger and bigger than Howard to fill in.
