The economy sucks, US just got attacked by terrorist and the stock market is a bubble . . .

Who is Jason Collins anyways and why do we feel the need to post about him when Obama is the acting president. What is this, some kind of weird basketball forum or something?

Ah, shoot.

Obama is a disgrace in so many ways it is hard to count them. He turned his back on our brave personnel in Benghazi, who were fighting for their lives for hours, waiting for reinforcements that never came. It is a tragedy, and Obama is responsible for it.

You need a violin.

Bill Simmons podcast was a one on one interview of Jason Collins. Interesting. Honestly, I think Collins might be a good third stringer to just teach ML what he knows and play some spot minutes.

And now here come the obligatory "penetration" and "taking it hard to the hole" and "backside defender" and "back door" jokes...

BTW, that "banging with the big guy" chuckle during Obama's statement kinda cheesed me off a bit.

Saw this on facebook this morning regarding Jason Collins vs Tim Tebow:

The difference from my perspective? Support for Jason Collins and the LGBT community is to support the expansion of the rights and freedoms of others. Tim Tebow, on the other hand, advocates for restricting the rights of others by conferring upon the government powers that the U.S. Supreme Court says Congress is Constitutionally prohibited from exercising. Support for Collins is support for increased individual liberty. Support for Tebow's positions is support for decreasing individual liberty. It's as easy as that to me.

Sorry, but the Tebow bashers come across as blatant assholes.

First Baptist Church of Dallas pastor Robert Jeffress responded in his Sunday sermon Feb. 24 to controversy over NFL player Tim Tebow’s canceling an appearance at the Southern Baptist mega-church by implying the publicity-conscious celebrity was “wimping out” in the face of criticism.

Controversy about Jeffress’ past comments on issues including homosexuality, non-Christian religions and politics resurfaced recently after it was announced that Tebow would speak during a month-long celebration of the opening of a new $130 million First Baptist campus. Tebow said Feb. 21 by Twitter that he canceled his upcoming appearance due to “new information that has been brought to my attention.

Rasta comes across as an asshole about Lillard but he's not wrong about Lillard's PER.

Jason Collins is straight now! Watch till the end of the video.

1) Having gone to Cal, I don't usually root for Stanford guys, but....
2) If there is any justice in the world Jason Collins will NOT be a Laker.
3) Bible quotes only prove bigotry and hypocrisy of quoters. Starting with Broussard, who was criticized, not persecuted - there is a difference. Where were the bible thumpers when Warriors coach and born again Christian family values man got caught paying off his mistress? Where are they during NBA All Star weekend with notorious parties? Broussard says he opposes premarital sex, adultery, homosexuality, funny, the bible only gets thumped when it's gays.
4) "I am a 34 year old NBA center, I'm black and I'm gay". Because it's identity, not bedroom. Straight folks understand this instinctively, for themselves. If a straight person says he/she is married, engaged, looking for Ms./Mr. Right, etc. no one screams "I'm not interested in your sex life!" A straight person who is not having sex with anyone is still straight. It's who you are. Because straights think they are the "norm" they don't have to explain it. It's just who they are. But a gay person says this is who I am and we get "I'm not interested in your sex life!" even when, as in this case, no mention is made of sex life. This was, in fact, a totally celibate coming out. Jason Collins does not have a boyfriend, it's possible he never has. It's still who he is.
5) On court Collins should be treated like any other NBA player. He should be signed if a team thinks he can help them win, be paid commensurate with his projected contributions, and get as many minutes as he earns. I doubt he'd want it any other way. But somehow an athlete who prays loudly should get special consideration? Tim Tebow seems to be the new homophobe talking point. Tebow was not released because he's straight, or Christian, or prays loudly on street corners (which the bible explicitly criticizes) but because he did not produce. I don't think an LGBT athlete should get special on-court/field/etc. consideration, should a bible thumper?
6) My understanding is Christians believe all have fallen short, so no one can judge who is or is not worthy, who is or is not truly Christian, is that not correct (if oversimplified)? This is different from Judaism, where anyone born of a Jewish mother is Jewish, period, even an out and out atheist like me. So, why do some Christians who don't thump bibles over straight adultery, or even assault and rape, get so riled about a clean cut intelligent polite articulate law abiding gay man? What's that about the mote and beam?
7) I know Shooter hated President Obama before he even became president, usually for reasons having little or nothing to do with anything Obama ever said or did. Not sure why it's relevant here; maybe because "they all look alike"?
8) Collins said he was unaware of other gay players in the NBA. I'd be willing to bet he is now, that he's gotten calls from others. No hard evidence, of course, just the knowledge that it is virtually statistically impossible for him to be the only one.
9) Twins are not always 100% identical despite DNA. Jason is an inch taller than Jarron, Horace Grant has a heavier build than Harvey. DNA plus other factors make us who we are, so yes, it's entirely possible and obviously happened to have a gay and a straight twin.
10) Some marketer could come up with some great and hilarious commercials featuring the gay twin and the straight twin, if they wanted, and they probably do.
11) "I am a 34 year old NBA center" - one of my dearest, most deeply loved friends, whom I will go to my own grave still loving, died of AIDS just weeks before what would have been his 34th birthday, the age when Jason Collins finally started to truly live. I don't believe in cosmic connections or anything mystical like that, it's purely coincidence, that serves to remind me of what us older folks sometimes don't like to acknowledge, that "the torch has been passed to a new generation". From everything I've seen Jason Collins and Brittney Griner are worthy torch bearers.

OK, now I'm out again until I'm back May 29.

Still unsigned. May not be because he's gay, though.

http://sports.yahoo.com/blogs/nba-b...et-jason-collins-still-without-181353522.html

When Jason Collins came out of the closet in a Sports Illustrated column during last spring’s playoffs, the veteran center had a good five months before 2013-14 NBA training camps began to find his next team. Collins is an active NBA player, the first openly gay player in the four major North American professional sports to come out, and he was adamant that his career would not be ending with that scene-shifting announcement.

Three months into that journey, though, Collins is still without a team – and this is either typical of someone of Collins’ stature as a role player on the end of the bench, a sign of the NBA’s league-wide fiscal belt tightening, or a worrying note for those that hoped that an openly gay athlete could sign with a pro team with relatively little hoopla to follow. Wednesday marked the one-year anniversary of Collins’ 2012 free agent signing with the Boston Celtics, and every day that follows will unfortunately force us NBA observers to ask a question that we want nothing to do with: Are NBA teams passing on signing Jason Collins the basketball player, or Jason Collins the openly gay athlete?..........

He's a terrible NBA player. That's why he hasn't been signed.

Career PER of 7.1, and he's played 12 years in the NBA? He's an afterthought at 34 years-old, which why I'm sure he came out of the closet. He gets his book sales, and none of the scrutiny that comes with continuing to play.

The MLS soccer player who is 25 and is planning a comeback is frankly a bigger story, IMO, and I'd like to see him get attention, since he was actually a top-level player.

Believe it or not, he may be on the Bulls' gaydar.

Non story..... The guy is just no good. I don't care who he wants to get with.

Sent from HCPs Baller-Ass iPhone 5...FAMS!

Denny, that was just......bad.

Seriously. The Bulls need a 13th player, and the equally awful Marcus Camby chose the Rockets over the Bulls.

Thibs is talking about playing Noah fewer minutes this season. His backup is Nazr Mohammed who played < 700 minutes last season. Thibs actually played Boozer at C a lot.

Believe it or not, he may be on the Bulls' gaydar.

He's a big body. That's why he's been in the league 12 years. He's a terrible player, though. Somebody to sit on the inactive roster, like a Juwan Howard but 6 years younger, at this point.

If he gets signed, his being gay isn't going to have anything to do with it.

He likes it in the poop chute. Who cares?

Next.

Um how do you know that? A lot of gay people, including me, aren't interested in anal sex. And of those who like anal sex, not all of them are bottoms. That's so offensive, Mick. And I like you.
