Washington Wizards center Jason Collins reveals he is gay

Collins may have came out so that ESPN would stop talking about a backup QB being released in NY.

Wait till Canadian football highlights are the lead every time Tebow's team plays.
I think it was Stern's doing. Anything to get the NBA fans to not pay attention to the Sacramento Kings vote.

I know there is not a parallel between what LGBT's and Blacks have gone through, but we must remember that just because Blacks in our society have been through worse, it does not make what gays have gone through any better. Same with Jew in the Holocaust, Native Americans and many other peoples, we don't really need to rank which atrocity is worse.
But it is fun to play the Pain Olympics! We love to give draft grades, and power rankings. Why not try to rank which communities have experienced the worst discrimination? Oh that's right, because it can only serve to degrade another person's experience. I haven't personally experienced discrimination (except maybe for my Nerddom, but Nerd Pride baby!), so I don't really feel that comfortable telling a minority of any kind that the discrimination they experienced wasn't that bad, so buck up Cowboy.

I was at a coffee shop here in Portland about 15 years ago when an effeminate man came up bleeding from several places on his head and from his mouth. He had just been been beaten up for being gay. 4 people jumped out of their car and punched and kicked him while yelling F---t and other slurs. He was missing teeth, his ear was ripped and all this because he was gay. Now every gay person does not go through an ordeal like that, but they all grow up with the knowledge that there are people in society who want to do that to them.

America is a fucking awesome place because we love merit. Show you have something to add, and you can be a winner in our society. It has not always been that way, but thats a hallmark of Modern America.

And by the way, do you really think that if a gay man came out 100 years ago, he did not risk being put to death?

Sorry for rambling, I kind of hit too many thoughts for one post.

We do rank atrocities, especially when it comes to the law. Japanese Americans get reparations, but the Indians do not.

There is also considerable reasoning and law based upon the 14th amendment that applies to "protected groups" and gays are not a protected group. See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Protected_class

I don't recall entire neighborhoods of gay people burned to the ground as there were with blacks (because they were thriving).

Well if the 14th Amendment doesn't apply to them (by the way it does, they may just not be given strict scrutiny) and they don't get reparations, they must not have been oppressed. Case closed!

As much as I favor equal rights for all, including the LGBT community, you cannot compare what black people went through to what gay people go through now.

Like, "If I came out, I might get fired" vs. strung up on the nearest tree branch.

Why is this even a discussion? I feel like this is an intentional derailment.

The 14th only applies to states, not to the private sector.

I'm not at all convinced that gays need to be a protected class under the 14th to matter in any significant way. The 14th without scrutiny should apply to marriage just fine.

Which NBA player will finally come out as a Never Nude? Given that there are literally dozens of them, it only makes sense that there was once a Never Nude in the NBA.

all these "new bible translation" verses need to gtfo, unless there is a new "word of god" every time some yahoo decides to "interpret" the bible

i mean, can you change "the word of god" and have it still be so?

garbage

Change from greek or latin to english and there's a translation process that may not be literal.

Yes you can, very easily. They are both being discriminated against for something they didn't choose and can't control. Discrimination is less now, for blacks and gays, because of the civil rights movement and the overall advancement of society. I honestly don't see how you can think they aren't comparable. They are extremely similar situations.

I must have missed the "gays only" drinking fountains when I was growing up. Surely they were there!

We sure do live in a different world today. I think it is easier to come out and say you are a gay NBA player than it is to come out publically and say you are against gay players in the NBA.

If I understand it right, Jason is now a free agent. Will be interesting to see what kind of contract offers he gets . . .

Here is the result for Leviticus 18:22 (King James)
Original text:

"Thou shalt not lie with mankind, as with womankind: it is abomination."

...35 translations later, Bing gives us:

"I want a husband."

Interesting that this comes out of another ESPN commentator's mouth regarding Tim Tebow the day after the Broussard statement:

"I don't see any team giving him a chance because teams don't want to deal with the following that comes with Tebow," ESPN analyst and former NFL offensive lineman Damien Woody said. "Maybe Canada."

I'm pretty sure that "the following that comes with Tebow" is the fundamentalist Christian backing that he receives because of his religious beliefs. Now, if Broussard had said the same thing, but replaced "Tebow" with "Collins", I think that those looking for him to be fired would be correct.

Leviticus 20:13 If a man also lie with mankind, as he lieth with a woman, both of them have committed an abomination: they shall surely be put to death; their blood [shall be] upon them.

translated 18 times HERE

Leviticus 20:13 Anyone who makes a Virgin? These Kinky to do. Abomination: the death. Blood is.

THE WORD OF GOD HATH SPOKEN!

The title of this thread is misleading. It isn't only Sly's fault. News outlets are reporting it this way as well but Jason Collins is a free agent. It should say "Former Washington Wizards Center Jason Collins reveals he is gay".

If there is any sort of controversy and teams aren't interested this summer, I could see Phoenix throwing him a bone.

i wonder if a 35 year old career 3/3 guy cant find a job... if it will be discrimination or just indifference
