Washington Wizards center Jason Collins reveals he is gay

I'm pretty sure that "the following that comes with Tebow" is the fundamentalist Christian backing that he receives because of his religious beliefs.

I personally do not care what makes his backers do it. If I am running a franchise, I stay away from a quarterback with severe limitations that fans have an unhealthy love for.

If Collins gets a huge following for coming out and those backers are calling for him to play more, I would also stay away from him as a GM.

Here is the transcript of President Obama's press conference today. The last question asked for his reaction to the Jason Collins news.

THE PRESIDENT:
Yes, I’ll say something about Jason Collins. I had a chance to talk to him yesterday. He seems like a terrific young man. And I told him I couldn’t be prouder of him.

One of the extraordinary measures of progress that we’ve seen in this country has been the recognition that the LGBT community deserves full equality -- not just partial equality, not just tolerance, but a recognition that they're fully a part of the American family.

And given the importance of sports in our society, for an individual who has excelled at the highest levels in one of the major sports to go ahead and say, this is who I am, I’m proud of it, I’m still a great competitor, I’m still seven foot tall and can bang with Shaq -- (laughter) -- and deliver a hard foul -- and for I think a lot of young people out there who are gay or lesbian who are struggling with these issues, to see a role model like that who is unafraid, I think it’s a great thing.

And I think America should be proud that this is just one more step in this ongoing recognition that we treat everybody fairly, and everybody is part of a family, and we judge people on the basis of their character and their performance and not their sexual orientation. So I’m very proud of him.

they are already pretty deep with big men

O'Neal will be gone, and with the Suns' President Welts being gay, it's not inconceivable they could add Collins. I suspect there are going to be teams who will be interested in picking him up as a third center, but they're going to have to be mindful of the personalities in the locker room and there's markets that will be more supportive than others. It's sad that these things come into play, but it's the way it is.

I think he will get an opportunity. Wouldn't be surprised though if it is a nonguaranteed contract.

Jason Collins’ former fiancee, Carolyn Moos, had no idea he was gay

http://sports.yahoo.com/blogs/nba-b...er-fiancee-carolyn-moos-had-no-170001023.html

Carolyn tells TMZ, she never once suspected he was gay, so the news is shocking. She says Collins eventually revealed everything last weekend — just days before his big announcement — and said that his homosexuality was the real reason he ended things with her.

At the time of their breakup, Carolyn says Jason gave a bunch of BS reasons for calling it quits ... and she could never understand what went wrong, until now. [...]

"It's very emotional for me as a woman to have invested [eight] years in my dream to have a husband, soul mate, and best friend in him. So this is all hard to understand."

So does Jason making this announcement increase his chances of a team signing him the summer, decreases the chances or doesn't effect it at all?

And for all you english majors, is it effect or affect? :)

Affect if it's a verb (he affects that); effect if it's a noun (the effect is that he...)

And I think his chances are similar to what they've always been. There's always a market for a seven footer.

THE PRESIDENT:

Interesting that Obama ignored a question on Benghazi whistleblowers, said he didn't know about it, and basically was running off the stage, yet heard a question about Jason Collins and went back to talk about it.

Benghazi ... eh ... who cares about government coverups.

Wrong. Adultery is illegal in most states, and in most countries around the world. Do you live under a rock, or does it just seem that way?

Again, incest is illegal in every state and every country around the world. It's embarrassing arguing with you because you know very little, and yet you spout off like you do.

Please, enlighten me oh great one. When was the last time someone was arrested for adultery in the United States? And if you're going to start listing off other countries, it's always good to list the ones who stone women for committing adultery. Those damn adulterers ruining the social fabric of our country should be stoned to death, right? That's how the Bible would want it.

And again, incest is largely illegal because of the genetic ramifications of inbreeding. I really couldn't care less if a brother and sister decided to spend the rest of their lives together. I think it's a little gross, but it's their choice. You're telling me that I live under a rock and know very little, yet you're the one comparing a homosexual relationship to someone molesting a child or someone fucking a horse. You're obviously a classy guy with worldly tastes and an open mind.

You are the reason why the Republican party lost its way. Period.

Lashawn Williams, 33, of 294 Pilgrim Rest Road in Noxubee County and Roshanda Jackson, 30, of 183 Oliver Road, were arrested July 1 when Williams'' wife, Cortiga, pressed charges on her allegedly unfaithful husband and Jackson.

Lashawn Williams and Jackson were charged with adultery and fornication, respectively; both crimes carry the same penalty, up to $500 and jail time up to six months. Both were released July 1 on $1,000 bond, according to the Noxubee County Jail,

"We do have to follow the legal process," Johnson said. "If A and B are married, and if B signs an affidavit on A and C because they are involved, they all have to come to court."

The south.... I'm shocked.

How is that not narrow-minded and hateful?

How can I be narrow minded and hateful when I hate the Christian right and the liberal left equally? They're both trying to use the government to control people, just in different ways.

Now if you said, NY is trying to pass legislation outlawing 20 oz sodas, I would say... "New York... I'm shocked."

How is that relevant to the fact that making broad, demeaning generalizations is just as narrow-minded and hateful going in one direction as it is the other?

According to Denny, there are different levels of atrocity; I think it's highly relevant that The South isn't a protected group under the 14th Amendment because IT'S A JOKE YOU DORK!

I don't make the laws - which do make a distinction about the kinds of atrocities. "Genocide" is a LEGAL word defined in the 1948 UN Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide. For example.

You asked the question, I was curious and posted the first Google result. Not necessarily the only one, or the most recent one.

What I also found is that adultery is against the law in at least 24 states. Far more than the south.

Lighten up, Francis.

...and here come the memes after Obama ran away from the Benghazi question about an attack that included Seals making $32k/year dying, only to hustle back to the mic to talk about a guy who has made $32 million in a mediocre NBA career being brave...

Obama is a disgrace in so many ways it is hard to count them. He turned his back on our brave personnel in Benghazi, who were fighting for their lives for hours, waiting for reinforcements that never came. It is a tragedy, and Obama is responsible for it.

The economy sucks, US just got attacked by terrorist and the stock market is a bubble . . .

Who is Jason Collins anyways and why do we feel the need to post about him when Obama is the acting president. What is this, some kind of weird basketball forum or something?
