He lost me as soon as he said, “to pair with Lillard”

He’s full of shit if thinking our personnel decisions are based on Lillard. That ship sank years ago.

We already saw they don't pair well. Giannis needs the ball all the time and doesn't like sharing.

Its a bit hard to make the salaries work from NY end where they acquire both Giannis and Jrue.

Maybe something like the below (obviously a bunch of picks would be involved)

Like the Bucks want our garbage. I guess to get their picks back maybe, but I don't see it happening.

If something like this happens it’s because the NBA is such a players league and that the superstars control it.

I'd want Naz Reid instead of Conley. I think McDaniels is actually a more valuable asset than Bridges considering his age and contract. I don't know if I would do it, but that is the only kind of trade I would consider giving up pick and swaps; for young guys on good contracts.

Curious what a swap could look like, if GS ends up landing Giannis, of us swapping some Milwaukee picks for future Warriors picks

Right. Portland has only one Milwaukee pick. The two swaps are gambles. What if Deni tore an Achilles in 2027-28?

How does the Blazers being bad make the pick swaps gambles?

If the Blazers are bad, they get two shots (assuming Milwaukee is in the lottery) at getting one of the top picks, and keep the best one.

If they're of equivalent worth, then why do we need to be involved at all? GState can just send their picks straight to Milwaukee. And if Milwaukee prefers their picks, shouldn't we?

We don't have to be involved. Just thinking on if Milwaukee would prefer to be able to tank by owning their own picks is all.

Should both be healthy next year.
Why? They weren't both healthy either year in the playoffs for the Bucks and it will be two years later and neither are healthy right now.

I won't be horrified if we get Giannis but my expectations based on the talent will be tempered by the injury history and age of our key players.

Teams can overpay to control their own picks. The Nets overpaid Houston to get their picks back.

So if we can get more than the Bucks picks are worth to us by having GS picks instead I'm all for it. But we'd need a hell of a lot of unprotected picks/swaps from GS to make that happen. I also expect GS to be able to retool better then Milwaukee can in the next 4 years - so again we'd need a heck of a good return.

A bird in the hand... Imagine if all our picks turned out like the last few Warriors' lottery picks...
The problem is all the bird in the hand transactions aren't going to have us contending for a title. We need to either make a trade like acquiring Giannis and gamble he can be healthy, or gamble that the Bucks picks will land us a star, etc.

Now if you think think one of Sharpe/Scoot/Clingan/Yang etc can become a good allstar maybe you think were that close to contending in a few years. I just don't project the Blazers that high, even though yes I have been excited and encouraged with our youth.

Just flipping the Bucks picks for a non allstar level starter isn't going to get this team a step away from contending. We'd still be multiple moves away. I'd rather just hold the picks and see what happens. They might turn out to provide very little value. Or they might lead to drafting a stud and a title like the Celtics and Thunder did the last two season. When trying to get a title that risk is a BENEFIT since without the risk we're guaranteed mediocrity.

I think if I was to put a top 3 list of Blazers getting traded here is my list ...

1) Thybulle
2) Jrue
3) Reath ( I think he can be traded if both teams agree but i might be wrong )
4) Robert Williams ( if i am wrong about being able to trade Reath )

Reath can for sure be traded - but another team is going to want something to take on paying the rest of his seasons salary.

The Blazers can just cut Reath if there are no deals and give Caleb or Siddy that spot.

But trading Reath could open up a million under the luxury tax just so it doesn't get too close if the Blazers lets say want to also sign or claim a buyout player.

Trade Deni for Giannis. Look at it this way:

Would you have traded the 2024 14th pick, Milwaukee pick and swaps, Grant, and Brogdon for Giannis?
