We are at a crossroads

One thing im worried about is the fact we cant trade our lottery pick if we get it this year without trading for another first for next year. A team has to have a first pick every other year and since ours is protected we cant trade a first without having another first for that year. I kind of want to make the playoffs so we dont have what happened to the twolved last year were they lose there pick no matter what.

That's easily remedied. Just have old Daddy Warbucks Allen open up his wallet and buy one.

Am unsure, are you worried, if we get out pick this year, say we are top 12, that we can not trade it? Easily remedied by just trading it after we make the pick.

As for the topic, who exactly are we trading for, and who do we have that anybody would want to trade for? We need help on our bench if we want to win games, and we only really have bench pieces to trade away. So it comes to trading expirings for contracts, but those type of guys have such little deals anyways, I just don't see anything we CAN do that makes sense for us. Outside of makybe cutting Elliot and signing someone in his spot, if he's out for the season.

I feel like this team has the talent to go to the playoffs if we actually had a bench.

So.

Would you:

1. Continue to tank with this shitty bench and try to get the best lotto we can for this summer /paired with the cap space to strengthen our bench this summer.

Or

2. Try to make some moves now to strengthen our bench and make a run for the playoffs?

I'm torn, but the draft looks pretty weak this year and I think it's unfair to our starters to have them play this hard with no help from the bench. I say try to make some moves and make a push for the playoffs.

We could make offers for Kmart and maybe another unsigned free agent right now. We have cap room to make 1 year offers, so it won't effect our cap this summer. Kmart would be a good addition because besides Leonard, we have zero bigs worth a shit. Kmart can defend, rebound and score with his back to the basket.

The next would be a vet guard that is a good defender and can at least dribble through pressure. There has to be someone out there. He doesn't need to be stellar, just good enough.

Would you trade LMA for Kevin Love.

I would stop and take a long time deciding. But I know that Minnesota wouldn't (nor should they) do that trade.

I think it depends on what they think they can get out of the draft.

If they could somehow make a trade where they get a lottery pick in return (unlikely) sure, do it. At this point, there is 1 player on the team that isn't going to be traded. And even he could be traded for a player if that player was a player that the team deemed a worthy player to trade said player for. Otherwise, he's not going to be traded for any player.

God I hope that gets me in jlprks signature.

Anyway, I don't know what they've decided to do. Obviously they've decided not to use their bench much. There's no way you can't be running plays to get these guys shots, let alone points.

Not good enough. But ever since your similar request a couple of months ago, I been saving 'em.

I say play with what we have and let the chips fall where they may. Our core is getting the time and shots they need. Not having a.bench full of guys needing minutes will hopefully also develop Freeland and/or Claver.

I do not think a small move makes us better than any of the teams in our division either. That leaves us fighting alot of teams for that final spot.

If by a long time you mean a heartbeat then I agree.

No way Minny ever trades Love for Aldridge, which is probably the best illustration of their respective abilities.

The "crossroad" was last year's trade deadline, when Wallace and Camby were dumped, and Nate was fired. Paul Allen decided to go on the new road at that point.

We are now as fans the part where the organization is chopping down trees and trying to build a new road. Bringing in Kenyon Martin and Delonte West does nothing to help build a new road. I understand that the OP of this thread makes irrational and impatient posts on a frequent basis, but the decision has been made. This team is building on a Batum/Lillard/LMA core, and hopefully can luck out to find a true MVP-level player, which may again change the course.

Weird thread.

I'd look to make a run at post player like Gortat or Al Jefferson via trade.

Well, you're giving up Leonard or Hickson, and also a first-round pick, to do so. Gortat may be worth it. Jefferson is one of a bunch of players just like him in the league. I wouldn't deal Leonard or Hickson straight up for him at this point.

If by "continue to tank" you mean that we continue to exceed expectations with a starting lineup that can hang with anyone in the league......I say we continue to tank.

If by crossroads, you mean we are a month into an impressive rebuild, with only a bench to build, I say this is fantastic.

The reality is, we are Crawford away from pushing OKC for 1st in the NW. I'm okay with this.

If an opportunity comes up to grab a guy, then they will jump on it. If not, they are set for a pretty easy off season in terms of taking the next big step....In year two of a rebuild.

Make no mistake, our bench is this shitty because we are tanking for this summer. It's not a full-on tank because that would involve benching starters etc, but we could easily improve our bench right now and Olshey is choosing not to. The team is exceeding expectations because of Lillard, Batum, and Matthews. Those three are playing exceptional basketball right now. Hickson has been good too, but i think Matthews and Lillard have won us a few games.

My point is that I think our starters are good enough to make some noise in the west.... but we have no bench. Would you rather have Olshey sit on our bench the way it is, so we will have a crappy draft pick and probably no playoffs, or would you rather have him go after some better bench players and maybe make a run at the playoffs?

No crossroads at all. We are rebuilding the right way. Don't ruin it now by adding marginal players that might get you out of the lottery but not to a championship contender

Exactly.

People really need to learn to take their medicine ... the medicine isn't even guaranteed to cure, but it's better than the "leeches" people are suggesting (*cough* Kenyon and Delonte)

But at this rate, what kind of pick will we get and will we even hold onto it? Why not add a couple vets and give it a shot? I think that's better than wearing out our starters and just barely missing the playoffs.

There's still a good chance you miss the playoffs if you add mediocre vets. You're competing with Dallas (who's been Dirk-less), Golden State (Bogut-less), Utah, and Houston for those couple of playoff spots. Even if you get in you'll get KOed in the first round. Why crap on a lotto pick when you just got a new GM who nailed the pick last year?

There's still time to evaluate this. Closer to the trade deadline Olshey can decide to become a buyer or seller, when more has been settled and injuries have played a role. That said, I see relatively little benefit to making a run at the playoffs compared to playing it out, probably shutting LMA down the last month of the season, and trying to get a top 10 pick again. Another lotto pick plus a ton of cap room opens up a lot of possibilities for the offseason, when you can actually make a step toward contending in some way. Why jeopardize that?

Is there that big of a difference between the 14th pick (barely missing playoffs) and 15th pick (having squeaked into the playoffs)? After all, Faried wasn't a lottery pick and we could've gotten him despite making the playoffs that year.

If we are 8-11 or better after this 12 out of 19 on the road stretch, we will be in a good position to make the playoffs provided there are no major injuries..

Pretty sure if our pick is 13 or lower, it goes to Charlotte this year.

It's becoming clear that this team is a lot more than a few pieces away from competing. Retool? I think this roster needs a rebuild.

Time for an entire revamp?

I don't think we're going to barely miss the playoffs ... I think by the end of the year the starters will be so worn out, we'll miss them by a mile.
