We got Aminu!!!

What a waste of money and what a waste of a roster spot, even if he's only a guy at the end of our bench.

He flat out cannot shoot and he's grossly over-rated as a defender. I am extremely disappointed in Neil, I really thought he was going to go after someone who would immediately improve our team.

The fact he agreed to the deal within the first hour of free agency should draw the attention of the league as it implies negotiations started before allowed.

You should probably stop being a fan if this is your response. We would welcome it. I hear the Lakers are taking on "fans".

He shot 7/11 from 3 in the playoffs. Batum shot 13/39.

If you want to beat the Grizzlies next time, you need guys who love to play defense. Are folks actually complaining about acquiring good defenders? Do we need more jump shooters? Baffles the mind sometimes

No way! Maris is a great fan and very knowledgable when it comes to the league. I don't agree with him here, but that doesn't mean he should stop being a fan.

from mavs realgm forum:
Extremely disappointing to see him go. He was our best all-around player this season. Excellent defender. Very athletic, great length. Could use some bulking up if you'll be playing him at the 4. Can guard all positions. Poor shooter, but really came on in the playoffs from outside. If he can develop his shot, he'll be a very good stretch 4.

Aminu signing isn't bad

I just fear for him with Terry Stotts as his coach.

Does anyone know what Aminu shot from the corner 3 last season? From the Henderson presser it sounds like Stotts and Co are going to make it a real priority this next season.

Regular season does not count. It is all about the playoffs. I think he shot 64% from 3's:cheers:

Dude, all you had to do was scroll up, lol.
Haha oops! Forgive me I don't get many posts per page on my iPhone!

Looks like what I thought. Should be interesting to see an offense with new wrinkles next year. With Plumlee's athleticism on the PNR, my guess is the offense will use a lot of that and Lillard dumping off too the corners. If LA is back then he continues to own the mid range.

So I don't think I've ever seen him play. I like the age and price. What's a player comparison present and maybe player comparison for his ceiling?

No big deal, just having some fun with you.

The fact that Olshey has eyed him for several years (and the player knows that) makes me feel good about the acquisition - it wasn't a move made out of desperation, but clearly a calculated one.

Olshey got one of his guys, he should try for one of his others now, DeAndre.

Kevin Pelton says based on his DRPM and real plus minus. .. "Have Al-Farouq Aminu's value projected at $34M over next 3 years (farthest out I project players). So Blazers $30M deal could be good value."

Considering over the next four years we got him for less than his 3 year value...

That's good, right?

So how much money do they have to work with now? I hope this isn't the big free agent signing.

We still have about $35 million in cap space available.

That's nearly half the price (per year) that Batum was going to charge next year, iirc.

If he returns to his averages of two seasons ago I suspect Nic will get a max contract next summer so this will actually be a third of the price. Over 20 teams will have cap space for a max contract next summer!

I would have rather the Blazers gone after Carroll instead. To me, this is a sign Blazers are going into semi tanking mode. $30 million for a guy who averaged 18.5 minutes,5.6 PPG and 4.6 Reb. What a waste of cap space on a BENCH PLAYER.

We can still go after Carroll even if we resign Aldridge.

The only thing I don't like is that it was our first signing/meeting.

If you see a good deal better to snatch it up before another buyer can come along and get it.

Hibbert has pretty much agreed on Golden States offer and the Knicks are giving Afflalo 12 mil if they haven't already

The rumors are Hibbert would be going to a third team; not Golden State.

Do they have a new estimate of the CAP? $67.1M is what I've been using. However, if they raise the CAP number, that also raises the max salaries for Aldridge and Monroe.

Yes they are $2 million higher.

At this point I think letting Aldridge walk and signing Monroe and looking for a 3rd star might be more prudent. I dunno. I'm not going to be torn to shreds if Aldridge leaves like most.

With Monroe earning $5million less per season and being 5 years younger, at an age players normally improve while Aldridge is expected to decline there is definitely a very real chance we would be better off with Greg. Who the allstars are in the NBA usually changes much faster than most of us expect. I'd very much like us to get Monroe. But if we lose out on both of them I'm not sure what we'll do.

Aminu was a solid acquisition. On the up-swing, good D, young. This makes sense with our recent deals.

I wonder if this means Neil expects us to play significantly minutes with Meyers on the court next season? Aminu's lack of outside shooting won't be much of a problem if we have a big man out there shooting 50/40/90.
