We got homered.

We got owned by a more physical team as well.

We also got outcoached.

The over and back they didn't call on Joe Johnson was ridiculous. That was the ballgame right there.

To be fair, it was very difficult to tell that we hadn't knocked the ball backwards. I don't think that call was that big a deal.

the over and back, the goal tend, the out of bounds, we had a lead and shouldn't have lost it, that's why we lost, the refs just sealed the deal

That's the way it goes. We win a few games each year via the refs and lose a few as well. Tonight, they got us.

I can't be mad at the over and back call and teh out of bounds calls.. too quick and too busy to even notice. I'm not mad at those at all.

You forgot the two blatant travels that led to three point plays, and what appeared to be a jump ball that led to another.

When you get outrebounded and surrender that many second chance points and points in the paint and you settle for jumpers and turn the ball over ... the refs maybe sucked a little, but don't kid yourself the Blazers practically gift wrapped this one.

If the refs only sucked a little, I'd chalk it up to chance and place the blame on the Blazers. No one is disputing that the Blazers ran out of oomph and didn't play well at the end. But the blatancy of the bad calls, and non calls, that went exclusively for the home team, in a game the visitors were leading handily, until the officiating changed in dramatic fashion, well, the visitors got homered.

I'm amazed that people don't point to the fact that we played our fifth game in seven nights against one of the hottest teams in the league and were crushing them for 3 1/2 quarters before we finally ran out of gas.

I'm damned proud of the Blazers tonight.

I'm proud of them too. There was no quit in them. That's a lot of travelling and a lot of late nights and a lot of NBA games crammed into just a few days. I was worried they'd play like they did in the 4th in the 1st, but they came within an inch of beating the top team in the league at the end of said grueling road trip. The team deserves a nice round of applause.

How about Rudy hitting three buzzer-beating threes? That boy is a gamer. Can Nate start him now, please?

If all of his shots were fired with 2-3 seconds left on the clock, the NBA better watch out!

I agree. Start him over Miller and put the ball back in Roy's hands. :devilwink:

had portland just put the game away when they had the chance in the 3rd and early 4th or had blake just made one of a few wide open looks near the end of the 4th, the refs wouldn't have mattered at all. but with the way the game played out, the refs did a bad job and their poor calls definitely influenced the outcome of the game.

I pay attention to the start of the 4th quarter for ref shenanigans. Right off there were a couple cheapies called on Webster and a few minutes later there were 2 more fouls called on Portland and nothing on the home team which had been trailing double digits. Down the stretch it seemed most every call but the most obvious went against Portland... can anyone access the 4th quarter FTAs? I'd be curious.

STOMP

Was it Smith who traveled down mid court (4th quarter) and didn't get a call for travelling but still ended up getting a basket? That was a bad call right there.

You really should just make this your tagline, regardless of the result.

I guess my question to you would be......Did we not get outcoached? Have the ISO's worked? Should Blake be playing so many minutes? Should the team constantly go away from pounding the post after Oden dominated in the first few minutes? Oden was 3-3 in the first couple of minutes of the game, and didn't shoot again until the second half.

Right!
* Johnson jumps with the ball, Miller bats at it so Johnson fumbles, and COMES DOWN WITH IT. Then he takes (and makes) a three.
* The over-and-back
* Smith puts the ball on his hip and stumbles for at least three steps before starting dribbling

That was NINE POINTS (and two fouls on the Blazers, which led to more FTs earlier). And that's not even including the Blake-not-actually-quite out-of-bounds.

It's hard not to believe somebody had money on this game.

Sorry, but it's really annoying me:

Over the back not over and back. (like 'I could care less', it's 'i Couldn't care less', implying the amount you care couldn't be lower) Man I hate net misspoken phrases/sayings. ARGH!

NBA Ref Rules:
"Over the back" is a foul. Reality: Similar to the reaching in myth, there must be contact to have a foul. Coaches holler for over the back fouls when their shorter player has seemingly better inside rebounding position and the ball is snared by a taller opponent from behind. Penalize illegal contact; don't penalize a player for being tall.
