  • Hornets at 2: "Prevailing thought amongst teams we've spoken with remains that the Hornets will wind up going with Miller. That said, the news that Henderson put in an excellent first workout in Charlotte has led some around the league to, at the very least, poke holes in that assumption."

  • Portland keeping the 3rd Pick and will try 'Threading the Needle' (or the Two Timelines Special): "Barring a team unexpectedly emerging on draft night with an offer they simply can't refuse, sources told ESPN the Trail Blazers are planning on keeping the pick and adding the type of talent to the roster they would be hard pressed to bring to Portland if not through the draft. The team will attempt to thread the needle between being competitive with Damian Lillard at the helm and continuing to build for the future with Shaedon Sharpe, Anfernee Simons and this draft pick"

what I noticed most about that was the shit about building for the future with Simons....geeeezuzz. What if it's Scoot. Which one of Scoot/Sharpe are the Blazers going to bring off the bench for the next few years while Simons is starting?

I think trading Simons is imperative no matter which lane Portland picks

It's not "on the table." That was what Fischer estimated would be required to pry Bam. 100% speculation. We all discussed this earlier in the thread. Look back a few pages.
I’ve read the entire thread. Just posting the tweet.

Listen to everything from 1:19 on and then really pay attention right around 3:20.

Then maybe listen to this from 33:30 for 30 seconds for more context or listen to it for a few minutes for even more.

What does "if we go young mean"?

Honestly, every single time I listen to Dame, you can tell he's tired of straddling as much as we are. He wants to win. He wants to go for it. He even said in the interview with Stephen A that he's tired of hearing that we tried to do something.

I agree. I want Simons gone. He's not a point guard. He's too short to be a shooting guard. I'm tired of these guys who should be filling the Jamal Crawford/Lou Williams role thinking that they're stars and that they need to be starting. Nope. The NBA has had people like you for decades. They are called combo guards, they have historically come off the bench, and they're usually only good for one thing. Nothing has changed. Simons is no different than any of those guys that came before him.

My feeling is everything we are hearing right now regarding who is taking who in a draft is a smoke screen. Furthermore, almost everything we're hearing on the trade front is an idea that has been discussed and discarded.

The NBA Draft can't come soon enough.
I don’t know about that. They can’t finalize a trade of pick til they know what Charlotte is doing and sometimes trades we hear about happen. Last year, we heard about a Grant trade for months and then it happened. I agree with your last sentence.

3 or 4th option on offense. I was talking defense. You said in another thread no to DDR because of his D, but you want to trade for Ayton? DDR comes cheaper and was an all-star last year I believe.

Ayton is already a pretty good defensive player with upside to get better. DDR is good but if you want to have him and Shae in the starting lineup, you're going to be hurting defensively and treading water. We need to address our defensive woes if possible.

Last season the Trail Blazer added Shaedon Sharpe to the roster without trading any assets for him.
Minnesota was "going for it" and added Rudy Gobert. To get him, they traded away:

Malik Beasley
Patrick Beverley
Leandro Bolmaro
Walker Kessler (No. 22 pick in 2022 Draft)
Jarred Vanderbilt
2023 first-round pick
2025 first-round pick
2026 pick swap
2027 first-round pick
2029 first-round pick

If Dame wants to be on a team like Phoenix and Minnesota or Cleveland who are "going for it," then I think it's time to trade Dame to one of those teams, the one that will get the Blazers the best return.

You've got to trade both Dame and Simons if it's Scoot...

Man that'd be fucking stupid.
Just asking guys take a chill pill. He is 27 in his prime averaged 19 ppg and is 6'9". Is that similar or less than Miller at three. All things being equal maybe not such a bad option. Unless we keep scoot then its a whole different ball game.

Tone is different for sure. "Thread the needle"

Both Highkin and Marang stated on draft night that moving up to #3 may make it actually harder to trade the pick, like what Windy said.

WTF is Austin Rivers being asked anything? As soon as he said we would still have Grant if we traded Dame I had enough. Richard Jefferson said "I don't know" 10 times...so that part was fairly accurate. and Windy said what he said before....we can improve and still keep 3

Media right now is a cesspool. Jumping to conclusions at every snippet from guys who dont know shit is not the smart thing to do.

Just best to let it play out on Thursday.

Also, Rivers? Stay in your lane buddy. Team got beat by a tanking Blazer team with a 19 yr old killing you guys. No position to talk about how far we are from contention.

If NOLA wants to give up Zion for Scoot, why settle for Kuzma?

Scoot is a highly valued commodity around multiple teams. Kyle Kuzma is not an equitable return

Yeah I just feel like if Joe goes to Dame on draft night and says, “We tried but-“ Dame is going to be like, “Keep on trying.” If Cronin says the draft picks are the best they can do Dame will ask out right then and there. Maybe that’s what Cronin wants.
Maybe Cronin will pull off some awesome trades and we’ll have nothing to complain about for a while.

Remember before the lottery, one avenue portland uses to get dame help is the use of future picks. Almost no one is even talking about using it now that we lucked in to the 3rd overall.

If hornets take scoot, draft and keep miller, use other players not named dame and sharpe (and yes, future picks) to improve the roster with win-now talents

If hornets take miller, we will have teams outbidding each other for the 3rd pick (scoot), zion for example

Again, we can add veteran/s and also draft and keep a player at #3.

I noticed, and have noticed, the specific language of "Dame doesn't want to be part of a youth movement", versus Dame wants the pick traded. IMO, there is a difference between the two, one which leads to a path where we keep the 3rd pick, but it isn't in an all out youth movement. Trading Simons, 23, potentially future picks, Nurk, etc. could still be the avenue to bringing in the vets that Dame wants, avoiding a full youth movement, while still keeping 3.

My previous post is the same as this one. There is no justification and never make another trade proposal again, please and thank you.
