Tone is different for sure. "Thread the needle"
Both Highkin and Marang stated on draft night that moving up to #3 may make it actually harder to trade the pick, like what Windy said.
If Scoot falls to three which is not desirable how about a sign and trade for #3 in draft for Kyle Kuzma.
It directly relates to what we’re going to do with the third pick. You should make a new thread for this or post it in the other threads.
Big picture, whether we trade the #3 pick, keep it, trade or keep Dame, this team's future is brighter than it has been for the past few years. And for that, I am happy.
I guess you could try to rebrand a youth movement as something else but if the two guys flanking Dame are Shaedon and Miller it's going to feel like the team didn't give a shit about what Dame said. He said in an interview that Shaedon is different but he's also enough and he doesn't need any more young guys. He said he's not there to mentor anymore, he just wants to win. Dame wants proven talent around himself, Shaedon and Jerami... he couldn't have been any clearer about that and in one interview he said, "I'm not a fool." I think very clearly that meant that this last trade deadline was the last time Joe gets to tell Dame that he tried but the right move wasn't there.I noticed, and have noticed, the specific language of "Dame doesn't want to be part of a youth movement", versus Dame wants the pick traded. IMO, there is a difference between the two, one which leads to a path where we keep the 3rd pick, but it isn't in an all out youth movement. Trading Simons, 23, potentially future picks, Nurk, etc. could still be the avenue to bringing in the vets that Dame wants, avoiding a full youth movement, while still keeping 3.
That could change really fast if Joe ships off the 3, Simons, and Sharpe for someone like Siakam. That would be a massive dump on our future.
Dame has also publicly said that he thinks we have the assets to make moves that will make this team competitive. So in line with what you said, Dame clearly has expectations for how good he thinks the team should be going into next season.I guess you could try to rebrand a youth movement as something else but if the two guys flanking Dame are Shaedon and Miller it's going to feel like the team didn't give a shit about what Dame said. With what Dame has said I think pick 3 is too valuable of a trade chip for Joe to say that he couldn't get enough for it and expect Dame to be playing with a rookie that should have been able to get Dame an experienced all star to play with. Maybe I'm wrong and Dame has just been blowing smoke but that's not really the way this guy rolls. I guess we'll see or hopefully we won't because Joe will pull off some spectacular moves to put a highly competitive roster around Dame.

You’re being overdramatic with “right then and there.” I doubt that’s how it goes down. Plus we have free agency and trades we can make without using #3.Yeah I just feel like if Joe goes to Dame on draft night and says, “We tried but-“ Dame is going to be like, “Keep on trying.” If Cronin says the draft picks are the best they can do Dame will ask out right then and there. Maybe that’s what Cronin wants.
Maybe Cronin will pull off some awesome trades and we’ll have nothing to complain about for a while.

Not likely, but I’ll do my bestSo if that doesn't happen, we better not hear from you?
It's definitely harder to extract the most value out of the third. Mostly because we don't have many contracts on our books right now, so the pick has to be paired with Simons. I really wish we still had Norm. That was the point being made by Josh Lloyd. That essentially Simons/3 was an overpay for a lot of the players that we are going after. He said that Simons/3 was too much for Bridges. It's funny though. I was listening to the Locked on Nets podcast last night and they actually had the nerve to say that Simons/3/Sharpe was tempting but it was something they'd have to think about..... like..... wtf?
Dame is the greatest Blazer of all time. I think Walton and Clyde can be argued, but I think it’s Dame. The roster basically has to have a complete overhaul for Dame (not his fault) He doesn’t play defense and he’s gonna be 33 when the season starts. Not a great idea to build around him nowCan't you be a Dame supporter while also not wanting bad trades?
In an ironic twist of fate, it could be comments like that that KEEP us from having the assets to make moves to make this team competitive...
What did Dame say publicly?Dame needs to keep his mouth shut. Discuss internally, not publicly. Him talking only takes away Joe's bargaining power
