We need bench scoring.... badly.

Wow, I guess I should have been paying more attention to this thread.

My security camera caught this picture of you:

But we clearly ARE growing and improving every single night. We're growing from within. Trades aren't the answer to everything.

That's a very good point and I recognize how much the Blazers have improved over the years; through individual workouts during the summer and just by the process of playing together. I always thought most of the improvement in the Drexler, Porter, Kersey group was just from continuing to play together for a few years. But adding some pieces, like Cliff Robinson and Buck also really helped.
Even the Philly broadcasters pointed out last night that portland does not have a very good bench.
I don't have too much hope that a guy like Williams will show any individual improvement at this point but perhaps (with the help of the coaches) he can show some improvement working with this team. He definitely needs to show some improvement as far as playing with Lillard; if he doesn't show that improvement by the halfway point, then i would suggest stop that experiment.

As far as trades; well i guess some are of the opinion we should wait and see if things get better, then if necessary make some offseason additions or changes. My opinion is that everyone is healthy and everything is clicking and we should not wait for next year, but rather do what is necessary right now to make a try at a championship.

Maybe there won't be any trades available that will have a strong chance of improving us right now. It's always risky making trades during the season. But i hope our GM is at least looking and evaluating. And i hope that posters here will be allowed to do their own looking and speculating without being subject to criticism just for the fact that they are thinking about ways to improve the team.

Over the years I've seen repeated discussion and acceptance of contending teams looking to trade for a 'final' piece to 'put them over the top' for the playoffs. But to even discuss the Blazers being in the same position, and that perhaps they might consider bolstering the bench in like fashion, is blasphemy, and idiotic? OK. I guess the Blazers are a finished product. I'll mortgage my house, fly to Vegas, and place my bet. Thanks for the tip, guys! :)

Blaming Stotts sub pattern of Lillard, based on 'poor shooting', is stupid when you look at the actual stats. I don't suffer foolish posts anymore, and a stupid idea needs to be called out for what it is.

How did the bench do last night, by the way? Also, the Lakers had a game last week in which every single player off the bench scored double digits, while every starter scored on single digits. They lost the game, but their bench scoring was awesome!

I just want to say that I don't consider Nate's posts "trollish or stupid" and I don't consider his ideas to improve the team to be "complaining" or "negative". When I used to run a small business, my mantra was "If we are not growing (improving), then we are dying (stagnating). This mantra served me very well in a very successful business.

You don't own the Blazers. We seem to have a different view on sports as entertainment. I actually do want NateBishop3 to continue to post his silly ideas, though, because almost immediately afterward, the team and/or players he is criticizing invariably prove the silly point to be nothing more than the rants of a guy who doesn't know much about basketball.

Nate....sorry to hear about your knee. I guess I missed how it happened.

PapaG...hope everything goes well with the business transition. Is there a way to privately give you my contact information? That is part of what I do in my career...happy to help if possible.

You need to me mellow a bit my friend. We get it, you don't agree with Nate. That's fine, not agreeing with someone is what makes these forums fun, but he does know a lot about basketball.

You can send him a private message.

I disagree. I'd ignore him if I could, but...

How about you show a little self control? If you see a post by whoever you want to ignore, just don't read it and scroll down to the next post. It ain't that hard.

The concept of self control is just a societal construct of trying to make you feel bad and shame you for being alpha, thereby evening out the masses into a single hive mind drone mentality where standing up for yourself or your beliefs are frowned upon and original thought is dismissed as weird or over the top. fuck bitches get money

Go Niners!

I'm working what happened?

Niners kicked a field goal. On the ensuing kickoff Tampa tried to get cute and run a reverse ten yards from their own endzone, they fucked up the handoff and Kendall Hunter picked it up and strolled in for the TD.

Blazers win in OT and that is a good thing. But the continuing weakness of the bench was even more glaring. They played 58 out of the available 265 minutes (Mo played almost half of those minutes with 26) and scored 17 points in those 58 minutes with 10 rebounds and 5 assists. Those are brutal stats in an OT game where there are 220 combined points.

Only Robin Lopez with 39 minutes managed to play less than 40. The record is great but unless they get more production, the starters are on borrowed time.

Well, I'm not sure why people are trying to replace Mo or Dorell. If anything, they need another big that isn't crap. TRob doesn't even get any second half burn in close games, Stotts doesn't trust him. And Joel, I appreciate his improvement on defense, but dude is almost as bad as Joel (Gorilla) on offense.

Our starters played less than 30 last night and more than 40 in a 53 minute game. So out of 101 minutes, no one played more than 82 of those minutes. I'm fine with that on this road trip.

Part of the Williams/Wright discussion is they are so one dimensional. One only dribbles, the other only shoots 3's. Williams' PER for and against is a MASSIVE deficit number and Wright is shooting around 33% for the season. Not exactly anything to write home about. I just fear for the starters health and continued monster production.

Wright looks like he's coming around now. Mo is Mo.

I hope he is coming around but take out the 5-5 in the Phoenix game and he is shooting very poorly over the last 5 or 10 game stretches...take your pick. I hoped he would be more than just a spot up shooter when we got him.

Worst. Thread. Ever.

Because it's true?

Tonight the bench scored 17 points. Detroit's bench scored 28.

Mo was 3-10.

Wright was 1-2.

Robinson was 1-4.

Freeland was 2-3.

We still don't have a consistent scorer off the bench. You can rage about it all you want, but it's a true statement. We need more bench scoring. We had four starters over 40 minutes tonight. Thank god our starters got some rest last night.

Channing Frye with 20 points off five made three pointers. He also chipped in five rebounds.

Fits in by expiring in two years too :)

Brother, we need to wait though. We will have a MLE to offer a great bench player. It's better to not jump the gun this season and allow this starting 5 to really gel. Then we know exactly what we need.

Who knows, the playoffs are really won by starters so we can still have a great chance. The bench is needed for the regular season.

Also, CJ is coming back and we really need to develop him.

Mags, I'm fine with waiting. I want to see what CJ has to offer us, BUT I'm getting sick and tired of people acting like this thread is such a huge affront. Our bench is not that good man. We had a great night against Philly, but that has not been the norm. They blew another lead tonight, when we were up 10, and we struggled to get back into it from that point on.

This bench will bite us in the ass at some point. I'm hoping CJ can make a difference when he comes back. We need a consistent scorer on the bench. We don't have one. We need someone that we can count on to score every night. Mo is inconsistent, Wright is inconsistent, and Robinson is inconsistent. Freeland simply isn't a threat on offense. Maybe CJ will be that guy.

Seriously though, the vitriol in this thread would make you think that I called Dame a horrible player, or Aldridge a joke.

You have a good point, I'm not saying you don't. I'm just seeing us play with house money right now. We still have CJ as well. Also, we are still winning.

If Olshey does decide to trade, then I will trust his decision. I'm just happy where we are right now

I don't want to mess up our chemistry. It's been talked about so much, and I don't want to ruin that. It's an important thing to protect.

With that said, dude, our starting five is legit. We have the talent to go all the way. I can see that now. Our starting five might be the best in all of basketball. Stephen A. Smith is right though. We are one piece away. That piece COULD be CJ. We need a legit bench scorer. Could be a big man, could be a guard, I don't know, but we NEED a scorer on the bench. Mo is just way too inconsistent.
