Wes doesn't expect to be back with Portland, is comfortable in LA

Welcome to our community

Be a part of something great, join today!

I'll name some:

Millsap
Monroe
Middleton
Carroll
Danny Green
Asik
Koufus
Aminu
Watson

Those aren't exactly marquee names but they're good players.

Or Hell, let's say we trade LA to SA for Splitter, Green and draft picks ('16+'18) and Batum and Kaman's contract to LA for Randle and 34. Draft Looney and Upshaw then sign Watson+Aminu. Re-sign Freeland and Wright.

Lillard / Watson / Blake
Green / CJ / Crabbe
Aminu / Looney / Wright
Leonard / Randle
Splitter / Freeland / Upshaw

That team could make the playoffs.

That SA package wouldn't work, I think I would have to work in a third and fourth team to get the value I think he is worth.

Splitter is better than RoLo.
Debatable. And rolo is 27, splitter is 30. Splitter plays like 20 mpg. He's not worth his contract. I sure as Hell don't want him if Aldridge is gone. I'd rather just resign Freeland for half the price. Dude would probably put up just as good of numbers as splitter

Splitter's contract will be a drop in the bucket come next summer.

knows what it takes to win a championship

Step 1: play for a top 3 coach of all time.

Step 2: play alongside arguably best pf of all time.

Step 3 : ?

Step 4 : championship!

He doesn't "know what it takes" any more so than luc Longley, bill wennington, etc.
He's a good player. Unless he brings pop with him, his championship experience means shit.

He does know what it takes, he was a key player for the spurs in their finals runs. Big moment experience matters. We seriously lack vets who have been to the top.

Splitter is just not the guy. So glad we didn't get him that summer we went after him. I would much rather keep Rolo (who isn't even all that) and get Patty instead.

Smoke and Mirrors. Wes wants to get Paid, and as a top five SG in this league he should. I wouldn't expect him to play anything but hardball, hopefully Neil can make it work..

Exactly. He might leave for another team who pays him the same as us, but I guarantee he will not leave if we pay him the most.
He is making sure it is known that if Portland wants him, they better ante up. There won't be a home team discount. It's always been a business to him. (and it should be) But he showed no loyalty to Utah after they gave him a chance and he won't show any to us if a better situation comes along. It's a business and he, LMA, and Nic all know it. I don't like it, but I can't blame them.

After the offseason the niners just had, anything is possible.

Damn so it's pretty much near certain LMA is gone then based on this bad news from Wes?

This is why you should never fall in love with players! Fall in love with the team but not the players.

No, it's "fall in love with the players' wives and girlfriends, not the players".

What news from Wes? Sounds like he is not sure we want him back. If Neil really wants him back then he will pay enough to get him back. But that has nothing to do with LMA

I don't think he said, "No" as in a definitive "no", but in a way that people will answer questions with a "no".

Almost like a version of "you know" or "yeah, no"

Or like "do you have any idea if you're coming back to Portland?"

"No, I don't have any idea if I'm coming back. I'm not going to say anything that makes it appear as tho I am, so I won't screw myself out of a better deal".

His mamma didn't raise no dummy, he dug our rap...

You're right, it was more of a "you know". Not the pant shitting declaration that so many seem to want it to be.

Me too. Me neither. He didn't say what this thread purports he said.

I wasn't moved. If I was a fan looking for any sign that Wes is gone., I wouldn't have gotten it from this. No offense to you Sante.

I still think it's 50-50,

He sounded to me like he just randomly said "No" as if he was saying, "Inappropriate question." Then he BSed about nothing because he was supposed to talk for 10 seconds. The hosts then followed suit. Their responses did not sound like they thought he had just announced he was leaving Portland.

Much ado about nothing. First time for the board. Denny feels ashamed to make money out of thin air and will mail us our royalty checks.

exactly. He doesn't rely on athleticism which is why he'll be fine

All NBA players rely on athleticism. If not they'd play just as well when 40. The difference is some such as Wes used every ounce of their athleticism to be just an average NBA athlete but combined with his skills he was quite effective. Reduce his athleticism and his skills alone won't make him as effective. It'll be similar to Vince Carter at the age of 38 instead of 32. He has the same skills today and some value on the court but is far less impactful on the game. I hope Wes regains all his athleticism as Dominique did but there is a very real chance he'll never be the player he was.

rather sign Kosta Koufus if LMA is gone, say no to Rolo, and draft a PF/C and/or try to sign Greg Monroe

Perhaps Neil feels Wes and Rolo will have few suitors so he wants them to test the market before offering them contracts. If he said we want you back then offered market rate deals that were below what those guys hoped for it could be taken as an insult. I'll be shocked if either player gets a $10million per year offer so my guess is Neil wants to lock them up for less.

Peace out Mathews. Thanks for all you gave!

My contact at Fred Meyers says there are no plans to discount Matthews' apparel, so it looks like he's staying.

Splitter is better than RoLo.

I've been a big Splitter booster but I don't think this is true. Splitter (like Valanciunas, actually) has plateaued surprisingly. Robin is certainly his superior as a defender (although Splitter is probably a bit more nimble) and Robin complements Leonard better.
