What about Kaman? (1 Viewer)

Neil got kamans replacement last night. He specifically even mentioned how Plumlee could be a "high end backup if we go out in free agency and bring back robin or sign somebody else"

I know. I just think Kaman is cheap, he's been good for development. He's like Joel P., but with offense.

I also (already) keep forgetting we have Plumlee - my mind is trying to block that from memory.

When asked about Kaman, Olshey said "Chris who?" Now he may have just been joking around... But I doubt it. This is Olsheys summer he is going to swing as big as he can.

It's also interesting that olshey then mentioned he wouldn't answer about Kaman because that was a free agency question. Does that mean he's planning on releasing him? I'd bet it does.

They only have one more day to decide what to do with him, right? They must be working the phones left and right to find any takers.

I expect us to cut him tomorrow. If he has trade value we would've dumped him. That tells me teams with cap room and non-guaranteed contracts right now aren't interested in adding him for $5 million. Depending on who we get in free agency we can always look at bringing him back. Maybe when all is said and done we have that $4 million he would've been paid available under the cap and we just give it back to him. Or maybe he even accepts the room exception or the vet minimum. But when you have the massive holes in a starting lineup that we have you can't worry about your 5th big man.

A lot of teams need backup centers. Miami is one. Denny mentioned Luol Deng and I like the idea of picking him up. Not sure if we could sign and trade Freeland and add Kaman in a deal for him. Tobias Harris from Orlando is another free agent worth looking at.

Looks like Deng is staying with Miami.

Might want his salary in order to make a trade later in the offseason without carrying that million in dead salary.

Also, this likely would mean we aren't looking to spend money on a center if we really keep la. Kaman, plumlee, Leonard, la, vonleh is pretty crowded. Might just need a third center that could play sparse minutes

I think we need Kaman's 5 mil for trades. We have little other salaries to include.

Kaman at 5M for one year is a decent asset. Thinking we are just making sure a trade does not present itself from a team wanting to shed salary.

Ok so we are keeping the Kaveman for now. The Kaman and Hendo for Hibbert trade is in play! We could use all our cap space first then finalize that trade Aug 25th when Hendo's trade restrictions end and we are over the cap. That would actually give us $5 million more in cap space than cutting Kaman and doing a Hendo for Hibbert swap now.

Can't trade Hendo + anyone until like August.

I heard you can't trade Hendo with anyone until, like, August.

I'm thinking GSW and Indy finalize their trade before like August.

  • For two months after receiving the player in trade, if the trade aggregates the player's salary with the salaries of other players. However, the team is free to trade the player immediately, either by himself or without aggregating his salary with other salaries. This restriction applies only to players who were acquired using an exception (and not cap room). (Also see question number 88.)

It is very likely for the Trail Blazers or Pacers to be under the cap and remove the need to aggregate Henderson's contract to make the deal.

Still not announced? Must be trying real hard to trade him lol

So if they don't trade Kaman, I'm expecting they sign a Luol Deng type for $10M, then go over the cap for Wes and LA. Then get a backup PG (CJ Watson) with the cap exception.

Lillard / Watson
Matthews / McCollum
Deng / Henderson
Aldridge / Leonard
Plumlee / Kaman

Thing is, is that team better then last year's? The bench is certainly better but I'm not sure about the starting lineup. And is it enough to bring LA back?
