I was thinking about this as well but I just don't see why they would trade for him. Bradley is very good and they will probably be looking to extend him, they have young Luke Kennard waiting on the sidelines, and Harris will be hard to replace. I have had them as main trade partners for CJ but not so sure anymore.

I would do a deal centered around Drummond and Harris in a heartbeat, not sure what extras we would have to attach to even get them to speak with us though.

So, I've been wondering what C.J.'s perceived trade value is. Just how much do you think we could get back in a trade for him? Are deals like these too much in return for CJ or is this what his value is?

I think we're going to need to trade him at some point, and hope that we're able to get a borderline top 5 pick. If we got the 6th and 12th picks from one of these deals we could possible trade them up to 3 and land Doncic, Bagley, or Porter... That'd be the start of something.

So here's some deals. Which ones do you think accurately reflect CJ's trade value? Which one's would you pursue? Which ones would have a chance at happening?

Maybe it's because I'm a Blazer Homer, but I generally prefer that we get the best player in a deal... which doesn't happen in any of these trades
except for LAC, and in that deal Griffin's deal is REALLY, REALLY, REALLY horrible, so I'd need the 1st, not give one up.

Unless they find a Giannis or Kawhi at pick 15-20, they won't make another 2nd round with this core.

Depends on Collins. He’s the single most important piece of the roster right now. If he develops properly, Portland could start Aminu at SF or whatever and still be in the upper echelon of the West.

Drummond is a significantly better finisher around the rim, is a shockingly effective passer (check the assist numbers), and the difference in rebounding is vast.

Better than asking "what does Drummond do better?" would be to ask "What does Nurkic do better?" According to the stats below, not much.

Drummond is a significantly better finisher around the rim, is a shockingly effective passer (check the assist numbers), and the difference in rebounding is vast.

Better than asking "what does Drummond do better?" would be to ask "What does Nurkic do better?" According to the stats below, not much.

Last offseason I suggested the Blazers should have tried to trade Nurk, Moe and Vonleh for Drummond and Harris and was told how dumb that is. Seemed pretty obvious Drummond was going to have a bounce back year and Nurk was unlikely to live up to the expectations fans had created. Didn’t see Moe being a complete no show.

Drummond was definitely on the block and I bet Harris was too for the right price. Hindsight is always 20/20 but this team would be so much better if they could have pulled something like that off. Imo something of the same will need to be done with CJ. Strike while the irons hot.

Problem is the iron has cooled off a bit on CJ and Harks Iron is now ice cold. Not sure we could swing that now.

I can’t find it in that thread but I think people thought it was so dumb because everyone assumed all three of those players were going to perform at the level they played at in 2016 when pretty much everyone on Detroit was obviously having a down year.

Plus there was that stupid cult following of Nurkic that had everyone thinking he was for sure the next Marc Gasol. I’d argue now that any of those three players would be no less than our third best player on the roster and that our team would probably be 3rd in the West. Just sayin...

Yeah I also reckon Drummond is a much better player at this point. He really is a monster rebounder, that is not even debatable and when you have many shooters on your team it's very valuable.

People are still a bit blinded by Nurkic, I like him and he is definitely an improvement over Plumlee but he is NOT one of the best centers in the league and has many flaws to his game that he will need to address because he can be considered a top 10 NBA center. Drummond is already a top 10 center.

At the time, the two firsts may have made it bad value as proposed, but the basic premise was to trade potentially overvalued players for potentially undervalued ones. The fact that it seemed like bad value at the time doesn't change the fact that most of the arguments waged against it in July have proven to be incorrect.

Perhaps it was just a lucky dart throw, but based on this season's results, it seems that had the deal been made as proposed, we'd look like winners now.

Is it really that hard to give credit where it's due?

I wonder if Milwaukee would bite on a CJ and filler for Middleton, Jabari, and a 1st. Jabari is obviously high risk high reward but reports are saying he could play right now but the Bucks are taking it slow.

Middleton could play the two and we might be able to use the 2 first rd picks and some of our scrap to trade for a real SF like Tobias Harris.

It will take something like this to get us out of the mediocrity.
