What playoff team could most use Jerami Grant?

I'm thinking OKC, although they're weak in rebounding and he certainly wouldn't help. But they have cap room to slot him in and a plethora of picks to give for him (probably one FR and maybe a couple of seconds would do it). And they can just take Zach Edey with their one pick this year to get one of the very few rookies who could actually crack their rotation and help with rebounding.

But a lot of teams are suddenly disappointed and looking for one piece to push them over the line, and his defense and outside shooting has to be tempting, if not his salary.

Lakers, maybe Denver for MPJ, Indy, Dallas I had thought but with their success maybe they run it back, Sacramento, GS, Knicks, Bucks, Hawks, Grizzlies, Bulls.

So yeah probably half the teams could make sense. I've also though it might be more likely we flip Brogdon this summer then Grant at the deadline. Whoever has a season ending injury to a stating forward might then cough up an extra pick for Grant then, but they might be more reluctant now.

Also hard to know what a playoff team is, Atlanta has the #1 pick but may try to win now, similar with Memphis. OKC wasn't in the playoffs last year then was the #1 seed. Bulls/Nets might rebuild or maybe a long with another move they try to win now. Utah has been rebuilding but rumors they might push to hard to win next season.

You don't want him going to a playoff team in particular. You want him going to a team that will give you good picks and or young players that have tremendous upside. Now if that happens to be a team that is a playoff team then so be it but don't angle toward a playoff team only.

Denver for sure. Grant is in their "window". However, they have no matching assets that we would want. So maybe a 3rd team, but that is unlikely.
But if I am Denver a scoring SG is a bigger need. (one who create his own shot not just stand at the 3 pt line)

In '24 - they could trade #16 after the pick is selected.

In '25, no pick to trade (being sent to OKC)

In '26, they own the least favorable of OKC, HOU 5-30 and LAC (via OKC). They likely will have their own in '26 (although right now it is encumbered). They could trade ONE pick from these two pick (the 'higher' is likely worth mid 20s) *** would require guaranteeing OKC their pick in '25***

In '27, no pick to trade (likely going to BRK)

In '28, possibly could provide a pick swap using LAC pick.

In '29, they could trade the more favorable of Phil/LAC (4-30)

In '30 they could provide a pick swap.

In '31 they could trade the pick.


So they have picks that can be traded in '24 (after the draft), '26 (subject to OKC guarantee in '25), '29, and '31. They also have a swaps available in '28 and '30.

Honestly, I wouldn't mind getting a pick swap in '28 (LAC) or '30 (PHI), along with the '29 pick... but unfortunately, these mirror what we already have with MIL with swaps in '28 & '30 and their pick in '29

Agreed, Philly has a lot of draft capital they could send out. When it was for a Dame haul no they didn't make sense. But for Grant we could have some of those picks be conditional or protected or swaps or not 100% guaranteed to convey etc and that's fine.

Now I'm skeptical Morey will give up enough assets where it makes sense, but if they get desperate and willing to give up value for Grant yes that team has enough to give us more than Grant is worth.

I know you troll a lot so if I'm just falling for it so be it but I'm pretty sure most GMs understand the context of the horrendous lack of experience and talent Jerami had around him in Detroit and the clusterfuck that was the roster construction around him here. Dude is way way better than he was in Denver and he was a big time contributor there to playoff series wins, just doing what was asked of him at the highest level. Now he's ready for a bigger role but not as big as was thrown on him in Detroit or what's being thrown on him here now.

Like what you're replying to says, give the guy good rebounders and make him your third option and you have a great defender outside and inside who can score at all three levels and when he's not being told to be the man, knows how to play a role.

Cleveland is what I think the best fit and return will be. Unless Mitchell bails, Cleveland is also assuredly going to shop Garland and extend Mitchell to the supermax. A return headlined by Grant is going to be a solid return, you’ll just have to find a team that wants an AS PG.

A lot of legit Blazer injuries forced an all-rookie bench to play extended minutes (before the tanking). Those rookies will be sophmores, and i have a feeling Cronin has something up his sleeve this offseason.

If Portland added a lights out shooter to the Ayton, Grant, Simons lineup, Chauncey's offense might actually work.

Joe has flooded the system with rookies. They'll be a couple teams looking to unload a contract for young players and picks.

the Blazers took a pool noodle to the dome. The Hawks stole their #1 after refusing to tank. The Blazers can be competitive and still land in the lottery.

Rebuilding a re-tool is no fun. Win the games, win the crowd. Then let the draft do what it does.

These 3 new super assistant coaches will help. The X's & O's will be solid, now Portland just needs another big leaguer to help score the basketball.

Grant needs to be paired next to another forward that is a good rebounder. I've always wanted to see the Blazers play him at SF, with a legit 4, and a regular sized 2.

But at this point, we're so far away from being good, Grants contract will be up by the time we're ready to compete in the playoffs anyway.

Grant's the kind of guy who is going to put up every shot he can on a bad team, which he did last year. It's not good for a developing team.

Would have been intriguing if we had flipped Nurk for Ayton - and had a two way guy starting at 2 guard (like Norman Powell) to see what that team could have done. The Ant/Nurk starters just didn't make sense with that group.

Probably still no way to get that team to be a contender - but they certainly could've won a few rounds in the playoffs and maybe if they make one other good addition it could've got interesting.

Powell isn't a 2-way player. He was WAY overrated at defense when the Blazers traded for him. He's not as bad at defense as Simons but he's still quite bad.

if what you're talking about is a lineup of:

Dame (49M)
Player X (20M...?)
Hart (18M)
Grant (30M)
Ayton (34M)

151M would be the starting payroll next season...10M over the salary cap and only 21M below the tax line, with an entire bench to build (they sure could afford Simons and his 26M salary). What I see is a play-in team. Maybe with HCA in the play-in, and a small chance at 6th seed. To be better than that, Player X would have to be an all-star level wing...and he would cost a lot more than 20M. Seattle would veto that in a hurry
