What the "experts" are saying about Blazers vs Nugs

I pick Denver to win, but I find this comment kind of weird.

Denver is missing Murray and Barton (basically 33 points a game), and currently have only 4 players averaging double figures.

Portland has 6 players currently that average double figures (Dame, CJ, Powell, Anthony, Nurk and Kanter), but the top two on each team average about 52 points and 46 points (I rounded up for both). But that is going off of their seasonal averages as I suspect that Porter Jr upped his average since Murrary went down.

Yep, not taking into account the last 2 games (one was an easy win and the other the Nuggets didn't really try), Porter Jr is averaging 25 ppg in Murrays absence.

So, that genius scout is saying Portland relies too much on CJ and Dame (about 52) and isn't deep (not saying depth is the blazers strength mind you) but that the (checks math) 52 points a game Jokic and Porter Jr average is NOT too reliant?

The difference is also a whole 4 more shots a game "reliant" on CJ and Dame.

Are we sure that "scout" doesn't have "cub" in front of his title?
Where do you see that Barton has been ruled out? I'm not arguing that he isn't, I just haven't seen anything that says he is. So if you have a link, that would be great.

Don't have a link. But you don't go from "out for the foreseeable future" to "playing" in 3 weeks.

I think you're forgetting someone...

...

Campazzo is like JJ Barea on steroids. And he's a big game player:
I almost posted him up there just for you, my man :)

Is it me or is Dame the best player in this series
I think Dame can dominate a game more than Jokic... much is made about Jokic's passing ability--and it's tremendous--but Dame can handle the ball on literally every Blazers possession, and that means when he's hot he's better than Jokic, who's reliant on others getting him the ball.

With that being said, Jokic has had an amazing, consistent season and I think he's more likely to be better this series.

In your picture/avatar, you don’t look a day older than the last time you posted.
I have aged a BIT. And my hair is long. I haven't cut it in about three years...

Jokic often brings the ball up himself. He's not your traditional big man who just posts up and waits for the pass.

If we listed all of the top players in the series, where do the rosters stack up? It seems like we have the better roster with Murray out.

  1. Jokic
  2. Dame
  3. CJ
  4. Nurkic
  5. Michael Porter
  6. Powell
  7. Aaron Gordon
  8. Covington
  9. Will Barton
  10. Kantner
  11. Carmelo
No offense to MPJ, Gordon, and Barton, but those guys just don't scare me much over the course of a series.

Should be a fun one...

Since Murray went down I think MPJ has a legitimate case for #3 on this list.
Neither he or CJ could guard my dead grandma
And MPJ was over 50/40/90 at one point after Murray went down. Small sample size but the added usage was clearly trending the right way for him.

that said ...

We should absolutely smoke the Nuggets without Murray.
Doubt we will but I hope so.
And I think the coin flip has more to do with them missing 1-3 rotation players

I don't think Denver is afraid to play us, but if they were........

They'd be Chicken Nuggets!

Bada-bing.

if they were in the Olympics and won first they'd be gold nuggets

if they won because of the highest BBIQ, they'd be nuggets of wisdom

if they had to change flat tires they'd be nuggets with lugnuts

I will always choose Lillard over Jokic because of his clutch shot ability and range.

I saw the headline of a Hollinger article on the Athletic. Seemed to indicate he picks Blazers over the Nuggets. Anybody care to post a synopsis?

Thanks.

Here's the last half of it, including the conclusion :) :

Nonetheless, the Blazers aren’t drawing dead in this matchup at the defensive end. Jusuf Nurkic is at least a competent foil for Jokic and should prevent the worst carnage. Enes Kanter? Not so much. The Blazers’ small guards won’t be exposed against Denver’s backcourt, and the lack of shooting aside from Porter should enable the Blazers to double Jokic more willingly.

Recent matchups point in the Blazers’ favor. Portland beat the tar out of Denver in the regular-season finale, a game the Nuggets were at least kinda sorta trying to win, and weeks earlier the Nuggets eked out a one-point win.

Overall, I don’t claim to have a great feel for this one; much like the series two years ago, it feels headed for a seventh game. Ultimately I have more faith in Portland’s offense and too many questions about who is suiting up in the backcourt for Denver.

Pick: Blazers in seven
