What to do with Sharpe?

I get the sense reading this thread that most don't think there will be any injuries this year. I just have a hard time worrying about finding playing time for players. I think it is more likely that at least 10 players end up starting at one point this year, including SS.

would make sense for his size and really only weakness seems to be his dribbling can be sloppy.

Give him enough time, and his dribbling will undoubtedly improve.

I envision him being a Kobe type SF (NOT saying he'll be Kobe Bryant level of superstardom, just Kobe was a relatively short SF/SG combo)

So... send him to the G-League? Because, unless we're tanking away one of Dame's few remaining years (or Simons, Hart, Payton and probably also Johnson get injuries), he's not going to get minutes for the Blazers.
Sharpe should get minutes over those guys and that doesn’t mean we’re tanking. Means we’re investing in our greatest weapon while also trying to win.

I think Sharpe has good handles. He just needs to adjust to a whole new level of defenders. What used to work easily for him now does not. This is why you ease him into the rotation.

Until then if the coaching staff can convince him to just get open on the perimeter for jumpers and slash to the hoop for layups and jams that are all set up for him by the offense, he can be one of our best scorers right now because the guy has shown that he's willing to pass the ball and do it well when a defense converges on him. On defense he has all of the tools but Sunday will be really telling as far as just how well he can defend NBA level talent.

If he can defend and play the role of off the ball scorer until he gets more comfortable with his handle against NBA level defenders then he can get PT right now that isn't given to him because he's the 7th pick but needs to be given to him because of all of the things he can do that no one else can on this squad. I do agree that as he gets used to playing that his handle can develop and he can be a scorer on all levels but right now just using all of the shots he has and his athleticism should be enough to get him minutes, again as long as he can keep up on D.

I don’t know but I’m excited about the prospectus of Sharpe more than any rookie in a long time. You can tell the game comes easy to him and he’s just trying to fit in right now and catch up to speed.

I’ve seen him do a few things on the court that are only attributes of stars

Taking the words out of my mouth sir. Man, eye test wise, he’s got it all on offense. Of all the recent SGs that have come out between Edwards, Green, and Barrett, he has the one thing over them that you can’t teach, size. I don’t expect him to be as good as them offensively right away, but I’m fully convinced he can be better than them on both ends of the floor. Even the guys that will come out soon like the Thompson twins who seem like they might be even more athletic than Sharpe haven’t flashed his kind of offensive package. You almost never find a PG/SG that locks up an All NBA and All Defensive team in a season the way Jordan, Kobe, CP3, and JKidd did year after year. I really believe Sharpe can get there eventually.

photographic proof of the first alien abduction.
Vecna started waaaaaay before we were told by Netflix and the Duffer Brothers. What else are the hiding from the world?

His head would be above the square. Not a chance and I watched a lot of Wilt.
No... the top of the square is 18" above the rim, so 11.5' from the floor. Wilt's 7'1" + 48" would put the top of his head at 11'1", 5" below the top of the square.

It would, however, mean he was jumping high enough to have his entire head above the rim, which would be pretty amazing to see.

I pulled that one out of you know where. Close though!

This thread kinda went sideways away from Shaedon but.....I have a thought.

Shaedon has skills, we've heard it and saw that in the Israeli game.

However, what I think he is lacking is Swagger. Skills without swagger don't mean a lot.

What is Swagger? I'd call it confidence, brash self-confidence that you can do whatever you darn well please.

Swagger, assertiveness, confidence, call it what you want but that is what, to me, Shaedon seems to lack.

Kawhi has always been laid-back and socially awkward. Not saying Shaedon will be Leonard but not having the swagger right away isn't a death keel either.

What to do with Shaedon is the same as every good rookie. Give them stuff to work on in practice and workouts and give them the minutes that they earn. Hopefully he excells and earns a big role right away, but it's not a red flag if he doesn't. Lots of all time great players took a while.

mmm, i dont think he passes on college if he doesn't have serious confidence. Seems he has more of a Dame swagger than an MJ swagger is all.

He doesn't need to become a star overnight. We just need to be able to look at him at the end of the season and see that he making clear progress.

The simple answer to the thread's question of what to do with Sharpe? Develop him.
I'm staying in the trade for OG camp and sending away Hart, Nas, and Keon.
That price may be steep, but get the best player in the deal since Toronto could use help at the guards.
Lillard, Simons, OG, Grant, Nurkic

Simons backs up Lillard. GP2 backs up Simons at 2. Sharpe and Winslow back OG ... OG who backs Grant at 4 along with Watford, Walker, etc.
There are good mix and match line-ups with positional versatility AND better size. This is what I want for Xmas.
