I like Jack. He's solid. But he's not "dope". Tupac and Biggie are/were "dope".

I reiterate, you're whiter than me, braddah. And you calling Jack "dope" further elevates that difference.

I'm not the one who's gonna get shanked on Kill Haole Day

ironically, I’m white.

my wife is Spanish (hello, Christopher Columbus - yes, he’s Italian, but he worked for the Spaniards). She’s also Italian. She’s also Japanese (hello, kamikaze).

So, end of day, my Japanese-looking wife gets a clean pass while my German/Welsh-ass gets hated. Can’t tell me that ain’t ironic.

I remember I heard his first record and really liked the island tempo of his songs...it was chill, back porch acoustic mellow music.....I then bought two more of his CDs and they were essentially the exact same as his first record.....I only needed one of those.

We had Better Together as our "private last dance" at our wedding.

I really like his style...great driving music ..I keep that CD in my ride

I've seen him twice at the waikiki shell, once at the gorge, once at Coachella and once at the Hollywood bowl. Always a good show, especially when he gets his friends up for a jam session.

Another thing…..you who CONSTANTLY update this thread and keep it alive….do you travel? Have you seen this fucking country in the last 18 months? Honest question. This whole country is in the shitter. Swing by LA/Vegas/SF/Seattle/Boise/PHX/Houston/Dallas/New Orleans/Atlantic City/ NYC/Philly/ Charlotte/ Orlando/Miami/ Tampa/DC/Chicago/Memphis/Minny/Reno…… cities I’ve been recently and tell me Portland stands out. I don’t live there, that’s why I don’t start threads about em.

They have become that "remember when" person that forgets the bad things that went on and cling for the past. Change is a constant. Most of the time, we are evolving.

Hoping we get back to somewhat normal soon though. Parked near Moda for the game and had planned on finding a place to eat on our walk back to the car. Did not see anything remotely interesting and decided to just hit the food court at Pioneer Place. Only two places open. Saw more tents on the walk from Pioneer Place to Moda obviously as well as people smoking meth near Skidmore fountain and a crazy lady yelling at us from a distance. Did not have one homeless person approach us for money though. That used to be a given whenever walking in that area.

Saw Jack opening for Ben harper, before Jack had really made it, and was kinda just someone Ben "discovered" like was said, I feel like all his songs are similar. I like him, but a whole concert would be if you meant to put a list on shuffle but you put it on repeat instead. Like Bob marley

I do understand that.

As an aside, I gotta try banana pancakes sometime.

Remember seeing him on the 'mall' at WSU my first semester there, not even a true concert, he had just set up and started playing. He hit it big not soon after that. Was kind of crazy to think the guy playing like he was outside a bus stop, was a platinum selling artist just a few months later.

I grew up in the 'Couve and live down in Texas now, but like it or not 'Portland' isn't just the city proper, it's the entire metro area. You might bitch and moan or be standoffish about it, but it's the reality of the matter. No matter where you grew up, if you are in the metro area and claim it as home, then you have a right to know what's going on in the city (good/bad) and hopefully want to make it better. Everyone in this thread wants to see a better Portland, a clean downtown and the homeless issue solved (or at least drastically improved).

I hate the phrase "fight homelessness" - this implies people throwing stones at homeless people. Can we please use cure instead?

That brings to mind the image of injecting them with medicine, and you know that's bad. They need their freedom!

How about Make Homelessness Great Again?
