Because Portland, as a liberal stronghold, is targeted by right wing shock jocks, and their audience eats it up. This means clickbait garbage about Portland gets high click-through rates, hence increased financial incentive for media in general.

The worst homeless tent city in America is Los Angeles....I think it's now over 52 city blocks ....second is Las Cruces New Mexico....Portland is just like most cities homeless situation...it's just had a magnifying glass put on it because it's in an area that is highlighted by liberal protesting of white privilege....it's in essence become a conservative target for told you so editorials. There are homeless tent cities all over the planet... best to talk about your own neighborhood issues as they affect your life the most. It's not good in Portland for homeless or anywhere in the northern states in winter....the whole world is struggling with homelessness and have's and have nots becoming neighbors

Well, if that's what the data tells us, (homelessness in Portland and Oregon was actually dropping before the pandemic and fires), it seems strange to assume otherwise.

Of course, if you have a narrative you're trying to push or are trying to sell papers or clicks to people who want to believe that narrative I could see why you'd struggle with the data.

They've done a really good job cleaning up the Eugene camps and moving them to manageable areas....they've put boulders under some overpasses to stop the camping under them.

That plan got nixed due to a number of reasons. So it looks to me like Salem has everyone locating to Marion Square Park, even closer to the capitol, not that it really matters. Took a picture just Friday on my commute home. What a wonderful sight.

EDIT: Sorry, you were talking about Nashville. I though you were talking about Salem. They had a plan to create some housing near Wallace Marine Park and that map looked kind of similar to what was in my head.

I'd rather trash was on a concrete parking lot than in the woods any day.....it'll get swept up downtown...it'll sit in the woods for a long time...a good place to start is affordable housing and designated communal areas for those destitute homeless. There's trash service downtown...not in the hills so much.
