Okay, fine, arrest the thugs and let the peaceful protestors and the PRESS alone. Why can't they do that with all their observers and cameras and drones with cameras? They do it in Asia and in Europe but not here? What gives?

No, the mayor won't allow the police to go after the protestors. They know how to distinguish between the rioters and the protestors so why don't they do it? Beating people indiscriminately with batons is not the way nor is shooting rubber bullets into a crowd. Singling out the rioters using observers, cameras and drones with cameras is the way to do it.

The mayor has decided that going after petty mischief such as grafiti will only aggravate the situation. Do you think that's wrong?

agree, but its not the Feds job to go after any of them but it is the Portland Mayors job to do as you say and surgically go after the ones causing all the trouble, he could but he wont.
My neighbor is a Portland motorcycle cop 25 years, and he says the Mayor could give the green light at any time to get after the anarchist, as he calls them. It starts with City leadership when things are out of control, I dont see it.

As you have said, they know how to differentiate the thugs from the peaceful protestors. Just cant let them do as they have been. Id call a curfew at a certain time and warn those that dont respect it they could be arrested.

They've been beating, shooting and detaining illegally peaceful protestors so what gives with that? Of course, that's mostly the doing of Trump's thugs.

Portland Police haven t been doing anything its the feds protecting Government buildings and they wouldn't be here if the Portland police were allowed to do their job.
If it was the same thugs damaging the Post Office downtown nightly think Wheeler would let that go on? Hell know

Trump is now using the protests as a political tool. That is the biggest threat here, not the protestors nor the rioters (the rioters need to be arrested though, of course).

Even the Portland police were not distinguishing between the rioters and the protestors. First, they've got to do that.

It seems to me it would be a great time for BLM to organize an event someplace like Tom McCall Waterfront Park and leave just the hooligans and feds to their own misery at the courthouse.

Yes, and he is doing a fine job of it. The media is eating it up. But that is their job, it's all for your entertainment and the almighty dollar with them nowadays.

I expected chaos during a presidential election, 2016 was a mad house. I just didn't expect that chaos to come from the white house. I should have though. Trump understands how to manipulate people very well.

sorry, not only do I think that's false, I think it's a little naive

there are no riots in Albuquerque, and there's been almost no destruction of property. There is no reason at all to surge troops there, but that's what is happening

I haven't seen any news about riots or destruction in Seattle for a couple of weeks. Nobody there thinks a surge of federal goons is needed...at all. But that's happening too

I think it's pretty clear that if Portland was just having protests, without the graffiti and setting fires to plywood, the troops would still be out there and they'd be gassing the peaceful protests

it's a lie that these troop surges are to protect federal property. This is a trump re-election stunt, pure and simple. The goal is provocation...that's obvious, and it's coordinated with fox news and right wing media
