Rumor What's going on in Portland?

I've noticed that a lot of the conservative "rallies" that take place are sparsely attended. So weird considering they're the "silent majority".

You didn't scroll through that thread. They brought numbers.

The Tulsa rally wasn't full. Nor was the outside showing for them.

The videos you posted did not show big numbers.

As a “right winger”, fuck protests. They’re dumb, destructive, full of dirty disgusting people, and a waste of my valuable time. Also, you have to be REALLY dumb to protest for conservative causes in a city where they’re beating people up.

I think that is actually a good reason TO protest. Not being snarky. IF you feel as though your rights, etc, are being taken away (or whatever is the reason), protest. thats why people are protesting.

Whether or not they should bring guns, pepper spray, weapons, etc, is a different story (but thats how i feel all protesters)

It sort of proves their silence.

Attending a rally isn’t being “silent”. It’s quite literally the opposite. Many people don’t like to been seen publicly supporting a side because there is a risk of being fired or ‘cancelled’ in some way, or simply just being put in awkward situations. Many people just keep their mouths shut and vote. The people out in the streets are fucking turds. Which side you saying has less attendees again?

My son and his best friends are about 20 feet behind Dame....... sharing their passion and support for a great movement. Everybody is entitled to their opinion, but yours in MY opinion, couldn't be further from the truth.

To be honest. The first 30 (maybe 45 days). I think there was good momentum, people generally agreed with them. There was violence and stuff but I think it was mostly opportunists and bad apples.

I think there are still good reasons for protests and good people out protesting. Also though with almost 90 days of protesting there seems to be less of a message, more of a mob mentality, and the returns have went from a positive to in many cases a negative.
I absolutely think protesting is good and I think its expected that some ‘mischief’ or even riots will break out, but there is no end in sight, I see city leaders, state leaders say they want to talk but the demands are ‘all or nothing’, which makes it much more of an insurrection than a protest at this point. I understand not trusting leaders who just want to verbally appease you... If Trump is re-elected though my guess is, it’ll be because of all these protests and midnight burnings of buildings.

Black Lives Matter, police reform. Justice reform.

And has the Portland Police addressed police and justice reform? Made any policy changes?

The two biggest policy changes that I know of are the police are not identified by name or badge number while in riot gear and the police will not release police cam footage unless you know an officer's name or badge number.

No and no.

What does that have to do with if there are good reasons to protest though? Nationwide there has been quite a bit of talk about police and their roles moving forward.

Also you can use google if you want to... There were bills in Portland from the initial protests.

Wasnt their budget cut some?

I believe Wheeler talked about diverting some of the budget.

I dont have any problem with protests, I wish they werent violent, and I think the continuation and in some ways escalation of them may have gone past the point of being effective moving forward, but in the case of the justice system and police reform they have been somewhat productive.

I'll let Sly bark for himself, but I'd guess the point he's making is if the police have only gone a little ways, and that little ways is in the exact opposite direction of what the protests are demanding, why should the protests stop? In other words, asking for the protests to stop when there has been no reform at all is basically asking the protestors to give up on the idea of reform

I didnt ask them to stop. I said that the returns on continued protesting is lower by the day (paraphrasing). It takes a while to get ballots out for people to vote on and for politicians to address.
Also the badges / ID issue is an important issue, doxxing is a problem too though.
If they want to protest everyday for the next 3 months then go ahead, but I believe that will have a negative impact on the minds of voters in regards to what the protestors say they want.

Doxxing is a concern by anyone who wears a name badge.

The police not wearing a name badge literally makes them unaccountable. And if the police are demanding unaccountability they should no longer be police.

YEAH! I've twice now tried to get you to read up on the demands and suggestions of what BLM wants to achieve and both times you were just too busy to do so. I didn't want to strike out a 3rd time the change of tactic worked.

And yes, I know how to use the googles.
I have read up and studied the BLM organization probably more than most. I just haven't discussed it publicly on s2 at least not that much. Most people out protesting are not protesting for the BLM organization though, they are protesting for the movement behind the idea that Black Live's Matter.

They are wearing identification numbers for internal purposes that supposedly would hold them accountable - I don't think they would most of the time, but that is the argument.

Yes, I know about this. I made a thread about it a few weeks back. Linked an excellent WWeek article.

What did you think of their original site and their new one?

Some of the ideas are ok at least on paper. Not sure defunding the police while at the same time running through residential areas yelling, and sometimes worse at ‘normal’ people plays well though. Though this years done a heck of a lot for the 2nd amendment group.
Whatever I feel about their ideas, websites, the fund-raising, where it may or may not go, the organizations isnt that important. My original point is they originally had very good momentum, and yes even in portland, and ‘good’ - measured by their desires - was coming from it. Police reform, and bills were put on the table, even if they didn’t go as far as they wanted, it was making headway.

I believe that continued, escalation, and nightly protests though has diminishing returns, and voters / people who you need support from to get results will eventually block you out or worse turn there back on you.

Again though, Im not saying they need to stop, I think police / Justice reform is a good thing for this country, but changing their tactics might be necessary.
