I have a bunch of childhood friends who are Portland Police officers and are amazing guys. I support them 100%. It is unfortunate to see the increase in shooting. Reminds me of the mid 80s growing up here. It was very bad.

My patience comes from my knowledge of him as a good person. While I can't say that about all Trump supp0rters there are some that I can. Wookee is one and a VA bus driver that is now based in Vancouver is another. I've got a VA nurse who is a wonderful person who voted for Trump. I try not to let things like politics, religion, sex, sexual orientation or whatever trump my feelings about a person's character.
 
My daughters protested early but stopped, and my wife and I went out once. But now? Could someone succinctly answer the question of this thread - What is going on in Portland? Or post an article?

I don't understand who is now protesting, or why, and what they hope to accomplish.

The draw of selfies during raising hell and spewing whatever seems to be one reason people are protesting. Ive never seen so many cell phones being used to take selfies and pics of everything, man those scrap books must be gigantic.

that could be, and I've said before the continued protests have butting up against the laws of diminishing returns for many weeks....

at the same time, it's worth noting that the initial protests were about the commendable goals of racial justice and police reforms. Can anyone list what substantive steps have been taken toward the goals? And if there have been no significant steps taken, why should protesters just give up and allow things to die down back to the old normal?

Maybe because there is no identifiable leadership or specific goals? I mean, the protesting is happening in one of the most liberal cities in America, with a liberal mayor who is head of the Police Bureau and who is running for reelection, and after 4 months of protesting have you heard of a single meeting between protest leaders and Wheeler to discuss substantive changes to police funding or policy? Intimidation by protesting in the lobby of his condo, yes, but actually working towards something achievable and potentially effective? Maybe I missed it. That kind of thing takes leadership, purpose, and hard work. I think we're kind of the anti-New York. If the protesters can't make it here, they can't make it anywhere.

Time to bring these acts to an end, and draw red lines. You cant let vagrants destroy property to convey a message, as it doesn't work. Leadership of a most progressive city must demonstrate how effective it can be in addressing the mob thats has disrupted and damaged much over the last 4 months. Unless they are afraid too?
